Planning a trip to Disneyland for last week in Sept with husband and our two boys (ages 5 and 9). 4 days in the parks.

Question 1: Do you know what the off season disneyland nighttime show schedule is like? Hopefully fantasmic will be back by then. Wondering if we should go to the parks WedThuFriSat or TueWedThuFri?

Question 2: Thinking of renting a car for the day and doing a non disney day. I would really like to check out a few vintage dress shops (pinupgirl/uniquevintage) in Burbank. Maybe do Griffith Park, Tam o Shanter, Beach etc. Would love to do a tv show taping but I think the kids are probably too young. Do you have any 'day6/nondisney' kid friendly favorites in the LA area?

Thanks! :)

Just so you know the last week of September tends to be the start of the Halloween Party so if you aren't planning on going to the party (this is a separate ticket event) Disneyland will close to non-Halloween ticket guests I think at like 5 or 6? So you'd have to go to DCA instead for the night, and I'd guess it will be crowded. They probably won't have any nighttime entertainment for non-party nights unless the fireworks don't go off the night of the party and have to go off the next day. It will also most likely be the weekend of Gay Days so it will be very crowded that weekend. I would rather do Tuesday-Friday even though I know that Friday and Wednesday I would get shorter hours if I wasnt going to to the Halloween party.

I'd recommend maybe visiting the Discovery Science Center (it's not in LA, but it's pretty fun), the La Brea Tar Pits are pretty cool too. I really enjoyed LACMA and Griffith Park. Santa Monica Pier is pretty fun and cool too! Or Venice Beach. :) If you like milkshakes I'd recommend visiting Millions of Milkshakes.

The LA Zoo is in Griffith Park. Also check out Griffith Observatory, Travel Town and the carousel. I's also close to Tam O'Shanter. You basically have a whole day right there. You might want to look into flying into or our of Burbank and doing your Burbank/Griffith Park portion at that point with 1 night in a hotel up there. That will get your a day and a half for everything you want to do.

hollywood is fun to check out- there's the wax museum, the walk of fame, and the footprints at the chinese theater. i always enjoy walking thru la placita olvera too. lots of little shops and good, authentic mexican food!

Halloween Time usually starts in mid-September, so, as the pp said, definitely be watching for the MHP schedule when it is released. Those dates will impact the nightly entertainment schedule. For example, on MHP nights, DL will not have fireworks for the general public, only the Halloween Screams show for party guests. This year there is a rumor (again) that the party will move to DCA. There has been no word on how that move would impact DL's nightly entertainment schedule, if at all.
