La Roqueta Island Getaway

I am also planning to do this excursion. I am also wondering.

Please advise.

Thanks.

We did the excusion on the 14day repo and really loved it!!

The crew on the boats bringing us over were knowledgeable and really aimed to please. They were so proud of their city and culture!!

You arrive at a private restaurant where you dock. There is not really a "beach" but there are several layers of chairs and tables (fully shaded with bamboo umbrellas) and loungers "cut" into the cliffside offering a fantastic view. There is an area you walk down stone steps to the small beach/sand area which was mostly used to put on the snorkeling equipment (the guides were great and stayed with you to dive and bring up puffer fish, anenomes and anything else you wanted to touch/see up close ... you could also go off on your own, no problem). They took those that wanted to hike on a nice (not too long) adventure. My husband took lots of pictures and had a fun time. The private "beach" area is like a mini wave pool, surrounded on either side by low rock formations. You can walk out a very short distance and just float while the waves take you in and back out over and over again. The food was awesome. All homemade and very fresh. Steak and chicken strips with tortillas, veggies, beans, rice, chips, salsa and lots of great fruit. All you can eat, and everyone ate alot!! They have bottled water (like a Sparkletts bottle) that was free. The dancers were really wonderful, with beautiful costumes and several unique native dances including a fire dance. The crew brought out a kayak with a boogie board attached that they let the older kids use ... for free!! They helped the younger kids use it also.

A few things to note ...

The buffet is served after the hiking and snorkeling so we decided to order chips/salsa/guacamole for $1 plus a $1 tip. It was yummy!!

My children are older (9yr, 11yr, 12yr) and strong swimmers. I would stay very close to younger or not-so-strong swimmers as the "fun and exciting" waves do cause your feel to leave the ground as they flow in and out. They also "crash" on the nearby rocky cliff (which was really beautiful) and this seemed to frighten one toddler for a while until he got used to the sound.

I would not recommend this excursion for older guests (or those with any balance issues) who wanted to snorkel or swim as the last few stone steps can get a bit slippery down where they meet the sand. The food, view, dancers and hiking trail are all very easily accessible.

There was a jetski to rent ($1 a minute I believe).

We would definitely recommend this excursion and will try to do it again sometime.

Hope this helps!!
