Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share some info that I received from the folks at these new restaurants. Great news (although of course, one should always check with the chef/manager on duty to make sure lists are correct) for those who are gluten free. Here is what they said:

Per the Chef, Everything that they serve is Gluten-Free, except for the

following items:

In La Cantina:

-Chicken Tenders

-Melted nacho Cheese, that are used for the nachos

-Churros

In La Hacienda:

-all Desserts (except for the ice cream)

-Shrimp Tacos

-Some items come with Flour tortilla, but that can be substituted with

corn.

So this gives us lots of options. Nice to hear that the new restaurant will be able to accommodate. I'm hoping to check out the CS restaurant on my trip in a couple weeks. Just had to share. :thumbsup2

Yep, I was told the same thing at La Catina yesterday, and got the email from Special Diets today. I did toss them a note back asking for confirmation that the chips, empanadas, etc. weren't fried with the chicken tenders and churros, but I don't suspect I'll hear back until Monday at the earliest.

FWIW, I had the nachos there, asked them to replace the nacho cheese with regular cheese and I haven't had any sort of reaction, so either they're not fried with the gluten stuff or I got very, very lucky. I didn't think to ask about cross contamination at the time like an idiot. :/

But they were awesome. Sadly, anytime something is awesome and gluten free and I didn't make it I get suspicious. ;D Hopefully it's all okay. :) If so, this is my new favorite quick service.

Yeah, I would definitely want to know if they used a separate fryer. I've gotten glutenized many times in the past (not at WDW) because of this. Lessons learned...always ask!

I'm dairy free too, so no cheese for me, but those Chicken tacos at the Cantina sure are sounding tasty!

Thanks for the review! It's great to hear someone's first hand experience :thumbsup2

Hey, Sarah - look what just showed up in my inbox!

Dear Alix,

Thank you for your email to Cathy. I wasn't sure she had responded directly to you or not. She replied that they were not fried with any non-gluten items.

Hope this helps!

I'm so happy. :)

With the nachos and dairy free, there's a ton of beef, beans, tomatoes, and jalapeños on them, so they may be worth getting and thinking of as a taco salad. (There's also sour cream to ask them to leave off, just as an FYI.) Next time I may ask if they can/will add lettuce.

Thanks for all you do keeping us informed. :)

At La Hacienda, the Tamal something desert is GF. The chef told me there is nothing but ground corn, guava paste (which was checked by the chef for me, no gluten) and strawberry sauce that they make in house with no thickener when we ate there last week.

The chef told me the only entree on the menu that wasn't GF was the shrimp tacos and those could easily be switched to corn. Everything else is A-OK.

I wish they would take the corn chops from there and send them to the other restaurants. I'd rather have those than the tapioca rolls...

Nice to hear about the options for people who need gluten free.
Thanks for sharing:thumbsup2

Nachos, sans the nacho sauce, beans, or jalapeños (I'm a picky eater, sadly), and with the fresh cheese they have there. They forgot to leave the beans & jalapeños off the first time, it was like twice as tall with them. :D

I don't know if these are the same chips honugirl had, but they are delicious. I wish I could buy a bag and bring them home.

Wow, those nachos look great! I'm so glad to hear that the chips are made in a dedicated fryer!:banana:

I'm soooo going to eat at this place when we go in a couple of weeks! I'm on the DDP this time and haven't heard if they are accepting it or not, but I will gladly fork out the cash for it!

Thanks again for those first hand reviews--and that photo of the nachos looks to die for! :woohoo:

La Hacienda does accept the DDP, I used it when I ate there.
