Kudos to Lifeguards at Aulani

Just wanted to send kudos out to the life guards at Aulani. My kids had to be rescued after experincing a eddy current coming off the tube slide. They couldn't negotiate the current and the tube started going back toward the slide entrance. The life guard on duty blew his whistle, jumped into the water and saved them.

I also watched another life guard save an older woman who fell out of her tube after exiting the slide at lightning speed and couldn't surface herself from under the water. That life guard dove super quick in and saved her. I think she might have drowned had it not been for that life guard. She was really struggling.

The life guards at Aulani definately seemed to be vigilant and responsive. Kudos to them.

I have always been impressed by the professionalism of the lifeguards.

Twice I observed parents being complete jerks toward them.

Once a woman was offended when the on duty lifegurd would not give her son his sun glasses and life ring for a picture.He was doing his job and she was offended that he would not take his eyes off the pool and more pay attention to her son.She made it seem like the lifeguard was just another Disney photo op.COmpletly clueless.

The second was when a lifeguard jumped in to grab a kid who had swallowed water and was clearly in distress. When the guard pulled her from the water the kid started crying.
As i was looking around to see who the child belonged to
I saw the mother put her drink down and walk over to the lifeguard who had just helped her child and berate her for scaring her kid!!!

The supervisor came over and very sternly told the woman that the lifeguard was doing her job and expained that they do not just decide to jump in and grab kids to scare them.

I could not help myself later I said to the woman that she should be happy the lifeguard grabbed her kid.If she did not the kid would not be able to cry.

It only take a moment for a tragedy to happen at a pool don't let your guard down for a second.
