Well I have no idea how this is supposed to work, so Im just going to do it this way lol. I have taken the challenge and I am very determined to make my goal of losing 50 pounds. That would put me at 163 pounds. Even though my final goal is 145 pounds I feel like if I set it at 50 pounds at a time, it will be easier to get through.

This is going to be very hard for me. We have 3 kids (Jace is 8, Emma is 6 and Abram is 7 months) and I never lost any of the baby weight from any of them. Our youngest is just 7 months old and I actaully did great weight wise with my pregnancy. My doc told me I could only gain 15 pounds because I was so overweight(230 pounds) Well I ended up losing 35 pounds my first trimester and I only gained 13 of that back, so I was actually negative in weight gain, which was very encouraging. Now Im stuck again and I need alot of help lol.

So as I posting in the WISH challenge thread here is my motivation:

DH and I are both trying to lose weight and I need alot of incentive to do that. Last night he told me to set my goal, so I did. Then he told me that once I lose my first 25 pounds he will call our TA and book an adults only WDW trip. Then after 15 more pounds he will buy our plane tickets. Then he said if I lose 10 more he will spring for a deluxe upgrade.

He has been dieting and exercising since Jan.1 so he has already slimmed down quite a bit and its easy for him. It frustrates me to see him drop pounds so fast and I have to work 3 times as hard to lose the same amount.

We started walking together this past Sunday night. That night I made it 1 mile and I was very discouraged. Monday night I went 1 and a half miles(that was the night he gave me my incentive) and last night I actually made 2 miles and felt great. I dont know if I will push 2 and a half tonight or not. I might try to sprint and walk. My doc says thats a great cardio workout for overweight gals.

Anyway thats my history and I look forward to posting in my journal. If you have any comment please feel free to post them, I welcome any advice :goodvibes

Welcome to WISH, jayhawksfan! A few hints: drink lots of water, and read other people's journals...

Now...a mile is no small potatoes! I can't even do that! Be proud of yourself...thank goodness for little victories. They keep us on track until the big ones arrive. I'm lovin' your goals by the way.

Keep your chin up. Do you have a plan you're going to follow?

A cheer to seal the deal!

:cheer2: Jay hawks fan!
:cheer2: Doing it your way!
:cheer2: Step by step and day by day!
:cheer2: You can do it if you try!
:cheer2: V-i-c-t-o-r-y!

Don't you just HATE men for that? My DB is the same way. He says he has to lose 5 lbs and :wizard: it's gone...

Welcome to WISH, I have found it to be extremely motivating to stick to healthy eating and not overindulging. I have also joined the exercise and weight loss challenges, and the 100 day cheat-free challenge.

Sounds like you have an excellent support system and what a great non-food reward for losing weight! A trip to WDW!!!

Reading other people's journals has helped me a lot because I realize there are so many other people out there that have the same bad habits as me!

Keep up with the walking, and don't push yourself too hard! It is perfectly fine to walk 1 mile for a week, then change it to 1.5 miles for a week. Listen to your body, it will tell you when it needs a rest!

You can do it!

How AWESOME is a reward and support like THAT??!!??

Welcome to Wish! I can definitely tell that you are motivated and will make this work.

Where in KS are you? We lived in Wichita for 5 yrs and really liked it(except the tornadoes)

Walking is great! As lovinaz said, listen to your body and take it slow at first. Your will build it up in no time.

Tigercheer2009-Thanks for the cheer. Its funny because my DD is taking a cheer class and I hear that "you can do it if you try" cheer so much, I find myself chanting it to myself as I walk.

lovinaz-Good luck in your cheat free quest :) I dont hink Im ready for that just yet, but I hope to be soon. Thanks for the kind words.

goldcupmom-We live about 70 miles straight west of Wichita, in a little podunk town called Pratt. :)

Hi, KS! Welcome to WISH!

I am so excited that you are doing so well so far and that you have a very supportive DH and great incentives for your increments. :)

Walking a mile your first time out is a HUGE accomplishment! You have to give yourself credit. And you are definitely increasing the distance much faster than most people would be able to. I know that the common theory is that you should stick to your starting distance for one week, doing it 3-4 times, then, the next week, increase the distance by 10%. I am not sure whether you want to take it that slow, though. You sound like you have so much motivation and determination that you may find that to be too little or too slow. Just be sure to pay attention to your body and don't make yourself too sore. You don't want to burn out or find yourself sidelined because you did too much too fast.

And I am definitely with Jen -- be sure to drink plenty of water, especially since you are starting your exercise regimen in the heat of summer.

Good luck!

You are doing good - you are motivated to do this. That's how I look at myself - I'm motivated to do this and that's the first step.

And I hate the fact that men can lose easier than us too!!!!! UGH oh well.

Good luck - I'm pretty much starting out too.

When we went to walk last night we got to the track and the mosquitos were so bad we had to come home. We made it 1/2 a mile and at lat count I had more than 20 bites, and that was with bug spray on. So that wasnt very good. I did well on my eating and my water drinking yesterday so that was a plus.

I have been urged to talk to my doc about my weight loss before I go too far. My best friend talked me into going in to the dr on Friday. We'll see what he has to say about how much weight I should lose.

I agree with your friend, it is best to talk to your doctor before starting on your weight loss journey! He/she can also give you some healthy eating plans to follow.

I don't know what to tell you about the mosquitoes. Not too many in AZ, even though we have a really high rate of West Nile virus here. Weird, huh?

Keep up the good work on your food choices and get in as much walking as you can. You can do it!

How are things going in KS?

Hope all is well. Getting the Dr. ok is a good idea.

Just keep taking one day at a time. You WILL succeed!

Hello there! Good morning!

Today is a brand new day...make it whatever you WISH!! (Glad you like the cheer!!! :p )

Have a good-scratch that-an AWESOME day!!!!

Hi! Welcome to the journals! I've found that posting everyday on my journal and reading other's journals keeps me motivated and on track. YOu've taken the first step and are well on your way :)

Great motivation to lose, BTW. I also just set me long term goal to coinside with our next trip to WDW. I'll have to think of something special (maybe Cirque de Sol tickets) to treat myself if I hit my goal.

It's great that your DH is so supportive- it makes all the difference, I think. My DH has been great about helping me plan dinners and such. Remember, men somewhat just lose weight faster. Try not to compare your loss too much because it would be just too frustrating.

I love the pic in your sig, BTW. Absolutely BEAUTIFUL family! I know you're proud!

Have a good Sunday!

I went to the doc last Friday. He's nuts I tell you. He wants me to go on a strict very low calorie diet and wants me to lose 85-90 pounds. That would put me at 123-128. Thats what I weighed in 1995 when I got married and to this day when I look at those pictures I hate them!!! You can see all my bones sticking out of my neck and chest, I look horrible. Needless to say I was and am very discouraged about that visit. He wasnt even pleased about me trying to lose 50 pounds. He got out this chart and was telling me that if I didnt get down to my "ideal" weight I was risking my life and I should be taking all this VERY seriously. Well HELLLLOOOO, why does he think Im at least trying to get some weight off. But nooooo, even 50 wasnt good enough.

I havent been walking since last Thursday, I ate at Pizza Hut Friday and McDonalds Saturday. But then yesterday, I DID start my Slimfast plan, and its going ok I guess. Im hoping my DH will get home from work early enough to walk tonight, I have to get back on the wagon lol. Im just very very depressed about this whole thing right now. My enthusiasm didnt make it out of the Drs office. My DH says I just need to concentrate on losing what I can, but theres no way I can lose 90 friggin pounds and be happy with it. Maybe I should get a second opinion. Or maybe Im over reacting and just being stupid....who knows.

I got off my behind about 9:45 last night and drug myself to the track. MyDH was tired so I had to go by myself to walk. I went pretty good. I got in a mile and a half. I feel better today about the weight loss, but Im still not going to go on my Drs plan and Im not losing that much weight no matter what he tells me. Right now Im going to focus on the 50 pounds that I originally commited to, then after that I might, just maybe try to lose 10-15 more but thats it. I might have to just do cardio at home for the next several days. Its supposed to be 102 the next 5 days with a heat index of 110, and theres no way its going to cool down enough at night to be out.

I'm in total agreement with you about what your doc said. If you feel you can't get that low and you've seen how you look that low, then don't do it. And wait until you get the 50 off and see how you look, if you think 20 more would be good, then go to 20 and see after then.

I know I can't get below 130, I've tried before and it just won't get any lower. I have large bones. When I got that low that was with no body fat at all so I had nothing else to lose. With my height, I'm suppose to be down near 100-108 - no way can I do that. I know that for a fact and if I did people would think there is something wrong with me. So I'm going to be happy to get down to 130. If the scale does move more this time then fine but I'm not going to push it. I think those charts are off too much personally but what do I know.

Glad you got some motivation back - I would have walked out of that office very depressed as well. I haven't gone to the doc yet since I started working out but I know he won't judge me on my weight loss - he will be happy. I have a great doctor - he's more worried about people eating healthy and if they lose they lose - he's never once judged me on my weight and when I have brought it up he's given me suggestions that he knows I can work with.

Hang in there - we're here for you and glad your dh is very supportive of you!!!!!

Keep on
Chris

OK- I'm no doctor. So take this with a grain of salt. You know your body best. And, you're the one who has to live with your body, so you really do have the authority to do what you think is best for it. Yes, I'd get a second opinion. But, even more, I'd listen to your instincts. I had a health crisis last year and saw more than my fair share of doctors...yes, they are the experts, and I took what they had to say seriously. But, I also starting giving myself more credit for what I knew I needed.

50 pounds is a huge goal! In fact, I bet you'll be surprised at how great you'll feel losing the first 10! And setting up smaller landmark goals, I think, is so much mroe motivational because you can track your progress.

Ultimately, you have to lose your 50 first before you have to face the decision about whether to go further. So keep working toward that and see how you feel once you get there. :)

BTW- excellent work getting to the track, even without your DH. That really shows you have the determination to do this!!!

And, yes, stay out of the heat. I plan to so the same thing! ;)

Thanks for the support, I really need it right now.

I have done surprisingly well today so far. Slim fast shake and a banana for breakfast, Slim fast shake and half a ham sandwich for lunch, all according to my meal plan. I havent eaten my morning snack yet, because I ate breakfast late. And Im already on my 6th glass of water. It is SO hot outside, I feel like I cant get enough to drink.

Whoa, I can't believe your doctor said that! He should be very supportive of any weight loss goal you have. I agree with everyone else - YOU know your body better than anyone. Stick to your goal of 50 lbs. And if you get there and think you can lose a couple more, do it! And if not, don't. You will be way healthier when you are 50 lbs lighter than you are now, and any improvement in health is a GOOD one!

So keep your head up high and keep walking! Even if you have to go by yourself. Sometimes that is more relaxing for me, I can work out a bunch of things when I walk on my own and the time just flies!

Well I climbed on the scale for the first time since starting WISH...I havent lost a pound. Granted, I did have a minor set back last weekend, so I have to keep that in mind. DH went with me to walk last night, he was in a bad mood which made me in a bad mood so I only made it 3/4 of a mile. Im still sticking to my slim fast, so thats a plus. But I REALLY REALLY want Chinese food for some reason. I hope I have the will power to drive right on by tonight lol. DH has to work late tonight so it might be midnight before I get to the track, if it gets too late Im just going to go early in the morning before he goes to work. I cant seem to get rid of this nagging little voice in the back of my head thats telling me that I wont be able to do this, but Im trying and I WILL make it!

Don't get discouraged! And whatever you do, don't give up. The first couple weeks are the hardest, it takes time to get rid of bad eating/exercising habits and build new, healthy ones. Sometimes the scale can be your worst enemy. It can make you really motivated or completely devastated. I like to remember a little cartoon I saw a long time ago. There were 2 little girls standing there, looking at a scale and one says "What is it?" and the other says "I don't know, but don't get on it - it makes you cry!"

Do you feel better? Do you have more energy? Do your clothes fit better? These are more accurate indications that you are on the right track. Keep watching what you eat, drink lots of water and get that walking in. The scale will eventually cooperate, you'll see! And it will be SO worth it in the end! ::yes::
