we will have a big group of 11 ages ranging from 6 to 50 years old...give me your opinion on what would be better for us or which one you like better...thanks

Ohana - hands down.

Why?
1. Better food. (I really do like Kona, but this past trip, it wasn't as good and we all got upset stomachs from it!)
2. FAMILY STYLE :) AS much food as you want. No waiting around to order for a big group, you can enjoy each other's company and let them bring the food to you!
3. Entertainment - There is some cute entertainment that goes on so there is something for the younger kids to do and for everyone to watch.
4. Fire pit action - I think it's pretty cool, so do the boys in the family (fire & meat = primal instincts)
5. Bread pudding. Really, this stuff is GREAT? I like bread pudding but let me try it - OH YES, IT IS AWESOME!!
6. Atmosphere in general - Kona is a restaurant. Ohana has a vibe....& great views!

Good luck!

I think it depends on your party. If you have a group full of meat lovers, then I'd vote for Ohana. If you have folks that are not all that into eating lots of grilled meat, then I'd go with Kona. My mother-in-law eats meat , but she doesn't really like it all that much. She hated Ohana. I, on the other hand, really liked it.

With a question like this you will probly get a 50 / 50 split on which is better.
Some people swear by O'hana, others by Kona.

Personally I would go with Kona. It's one of the few Disney restaurants I do not mind paying out of pocket for.

The quality of the food at O'hanas is not as good as it once was – (IMO and to be fair I feel this way about 80% of the TS locations in Disney).
The last time I was there they had switched to the peel and eat shrimp – I also recall they were not great quality.
I also recall the meat being very dry and way overcooked. It’s hard to ruin meat cooked over a fire IMO.
Although it is all you can eat family style if you get a bad waiter or they are busy and trying to rush you out you may not get all you want.
I know I have done these type of meals in large groups and it always seemed that by the time the item I wanted got to me there was none left.
The show itself was a lot of fun as I recall and with a large group I would assume it would be even better.
Also with O’hana I have heard that "The Shrimp and Scalloped Potatoes seem to come on and off the menu, so don't count on either."
I have never been there when they did not have shrimp.

I have always had good meals at Kona, but do hear random complaints.
One advantage for a group as large as yours is there is a bit more of a selection of foods IMO, people can pick what they want and do not have to eat the items on the buffet.
I really like the Tuna Oscar at Kona and that is not something you would not get at O'hana.
I would take a look at the two menus and decided that way. With 11 people it may be hard to satisfy everyone, especially the kids.

One advantage to Ohana (IF you are on the DDP) is you get starters, salads, desserts and you main meal for 1 TS credit. At Kona you just get your meal and dessert for 1 TS. (and of course the beverage)

Both O'hana and Kona are good and we will go back to both places.

At O'hana your salad, dipping sauces, pork wontons, veggies, noodles, bread, and bread pudding are served family style all you can eat. Your meats, steak, pork, turkey, and shrimp are served on spits that they bring table side so you can pick what you want. These are also all you can eat. You can also ask for children's meals if the kids do not like the above foods. During dinner they have coconut races, the limbo and some other entertainment for the children and adults. If you want the children to sit and eat and not get up, I am not to sure it will happen here.

Kona is a very open and airy which means it can be kinda loud. However, it is very nice and relaxing which we loved. We have seen both adults and children enjoying Kona. We had the steak here and it was great, it is also one of the places my parents want to go back to. There is a wide arrangement of food for both adults and children which can be a plus. Also there are no games or parades to disturb the children if you want them to relax and eat their meals.

Overall, I think both places are a great choice for dinner. What you have to decide is what will be best for your party. Also you can check out the menus either her on the dis boards or on allears.net. If you choose O'hana try to get a 5pm ressie and ask for a Castle View when you check in, it never hurts to ask.
