Kona or The Wave

Please let me know which you prefer and why
Personally, eaten at Kona many times, time for a change. Ive recently read many threads on the Wave and so far no bad press, nothing but good so I'm trying it this Feb!

Been to both and they are both good. The Wave is a unique concept and the menu has a more organic slant to it. The blue rooms off the bar area are a really cool place to hang out while you wait for a table. Also, the Wave is a self-contained restaurant that is set away from the lobby area of CR. Kona has good food and a lovely view of the tropical foliage in the lobby of the Poly. Kona is in the middle of the action of the second floor of the lobby with the monorail station entrance is right next to Kona. I love the hustle and bustle of the area at night, but at lunch it is quiet and peaceful.

Konas

We ate at the Wave and were not impressed. We were seated almost in the middle of the room and it was noisy and the food just ok.

Hi TinkerBelle920,
I vote for The Wave. I was always a huge fan of Kona and still am though after eating at The Wave last week I would have to say out of the two I would pick The Wave.

My reasons would be that the food was excellent and the menu is not just the basics. The spices and preparations seemed to be slightly higher end. I had a seafood linguini that was fantastic.

I found the price point to be very similar between the two though the Wave had a better ambiance in my opinion and the food was slightly better. You will likely get several different opinions here though honestly either one will be great. Enjoy your trip. :thumbsup2

We ate at both Kona and The Wave 2 weeks ago. We like the Wave. DH likes the breakfast platters, and its much quieter in the AM at the Wave. Both dinner menus are good. The chicken pot pie at the Wave was a 1/2 chicken with pie crust, unusual but very good.

I would go with The Wave because I have read a lot of positive reviews about it, so a lot of others seem to think it's very good.

We want to try the Wave on an upcoming trip - but it doesn't seem to open until 5:30PM for dinner. Anyone know if this is true? How would I find out?

Also, is the Wave's bar open before 5:30PM? I'd love to pop in there for a drink before a ressie up at CG at 5:30PM. I figured if they have you arrive 15 min before your ADR they might as well have the bar open and make some money off of you!

Yes it's true that they open at 5:30 PM for dinner, however their bar is open from 12:00 PM - 12:00 AM.

We just ate at Kona last month for lunch and thoroughly enjoyed it. The main event was the delicious desserts they had. My son got the ginormous sundae with the cotton candy topping, it was insane!

We make an effort to eat at Kona at least once on our trips to Florida. It is one of my favorite restaurants in WDW, especially for breakfast. Lunch and dinner are good as well, but breakfast is definitely superior. I've never dined at The Wave, but the reviews I've heard are mixed. I would absolutely give Kona a try for breakfast. :thumbsup2

Another vote for Kona. It's in a beautiful resort with lovely decorations, and the food is amazing. And the margaritas are the best in all of WDW.:drinking1

The Wave is our second favorite. My kids enjoyed all the flavors. The portions are smaller than Kona, but I thought they were better prepared. My son said the salmon there is the best on property. The desserts were not my favorite and they are in a sampler plate, so if you like something you really only get a taste of it.

Kona is loud, but the steaks are fair and has a better dessert selection.

I vote for Kona's it's one of my favorite restaurants. The food is good. Also if you want to go to the Sushi bar there but have members of your family who don't care for Sushi, they can order from the Kona menu.

I think The Wave is okay but I can't get the rest of my family to go back.

We usually do Kona and it's one of our favorites. However, this trip we tried the Wave to be different. It was a nice change. The chicken/rice soup was awesome. We tried the lettuce wraps and they didn't have the same spice that I am used to with lettuce wraps. The spices tasted more Indian in flavor, which I didn't care for. Our waitress offered to bring another bowl of soup instead, but I declined since I knew we had plenty of food coming. DH had the lamb shank and thought it was good, especially the couscous-like stuff it was placed on. I had the filet and it was excellent. The mini-samplers of deserts is a good way to try different things. I was stuffed by then so I only tasted a little of each.

If you only get to Kona once in awhile and love it then go with it, otherwise if you are looking for something new and different, then the Wave is a good choice.
