I would pick Kona breakfast!! Pineapple macadamia pancakes and tonga toast - two things you can't get anywhere else for breakfast! (Well, you can get tonga toast at Capt. Cooks at Poly but...)
I would choose the Grand Floridian Café. Unlike many on this board, I don't think that Kona's breakfast is their best meal. The GFC has an amazing lunch, however. The Grand Floridian burger is sublime, and I really enjoyed the orecchiette pasta of the day when we were there last.
We've never been to Grand Floridian Cafe but we would never miss an opportunity to do Kona for breakfast. Even if I coul only have the juice I would be happy!!
I'Ve eaten at both, and they are both great picks! If I had to choose though, I would have to say Kona for breakfast. I ALWAYS go here for tonga toast. It's tradition
GFC, hands down! We love the atmosphere, have had amazing service, its much more relaxed than the noisy lobby of the Poly and the Grand Fl. Burger [with lobster and hollendaise!] is amazing.
Thanks for all the great responses. So for quiet and lobster, it sounds like GF. For tonga toast and other island style food, sounds like Kona. Hmm. Maybe I'll have to find a way to fit both in
We had breakfast at Kona last January (Macadamia Nut Pancakes) were absolutely delicious. And, we ate at the GFC for lunch (Hamburger with lobster and rueben sandwich, french onion soup were great). GFC was a relaxing lunch although the food did take a while to arrive. so plan on a leisurely lunch. Not a bad thing because it's a nice atmoshpere.
It's hard to choose because you are looking at two different meal times. I would choose Kona for breakfast and GFC for lunch if you were looking at both for breakfast or both for lunch.
I tried Kona Cafe a couple of times recently based upon all the praise for it. Can't say that I understand the attraction. My server was very nice, although slow. The food was OK at best, but certainly not outstanding.
I'd rate it as a place to eat if you're there, but not worthy of a special trip just to eat there.
