IS Norfolk the closest airport? MY son(14) is there with friends and apparently got a really bad burn yesterday. Well today everyone went to the beach and he is in the camper alone. I suspect he may have sun poisoning. (He forgot to waer sunscreen yesterday and no adults asked about it! Their family apparently doesn't use it.) He realized he didn't have it when he go tto the beach. I am not sure I need to get him home yet becuase I haven't been able to speak to the adults he is with but I am trying to be prepared. I tried calling the camp ground but was on hold forever so I gave up.I am not sure how they would get him to an airport even since they are in a camper. He keeps saying he is ok but he is crying becuase he hurts and doesn't feel well. This concerns me becuase he has such a high pain tolerance that he very seldom cries when he is hurt. (He played 10 days of 2 a days on a broken ankle, and almost 4 months of baseball with a stress fracture and never cried once) he is afraid they will think he is a baby if he comes home. I know he should have remembered his sunscreen so that is a non issue at this point. I am just trying to figure out how to get him home if need be. He says he is itchy, his stomach is upset, and he is in alot of pain. It sure sounds like possibly sun poison to me. Any other thoughts. He has CLaritin , Motrin, and Aloe with him. I told him he needs to get some Gatorade in him so he said he will walk over to the canteen and get some. (It is close according to him)

I don't know how close the airport is.But tell your son to find a CVS or a pharmacy and get a spray called solar cane(SP?) it will help with the pain. Also tea bags help with sun poison.but he needs to stay out of the sun.Take the motrin and he will only want to take cool showers.

Do you mean the KOA campground? That's right in VA Beach near the Naval air station. It's about a half hour drive to Norfolk airport. He could easily get a taxi there if you need to get him home. Good luck!

YES THANKS. He called it AOL. I am not a camper so I am not sure names of places. I fixed the title.

THanks for the replies. At least we know we can get him home if need be. He is staying out of the sun. He did find some gatorade so he is drinking that and I told him to wet down his towel and put it across his back until someone gets back and can help him reach the areas he can't with some aloe. He also took some Motrin. He is eating some chips right now to help retain fluids. (ER doc told him to do that last year when he has become dehydrated from being sick.)

I can only imagine how you must be feeling! Your poor son. How long is he supposed to stay with these people? I said a prayer for your son, for you, and for that family that someone's brain will click into gear and realize they need to check on him!

They are scheduled to be home Tuesday afternoon. I admit I sometimes wonder how the mom survives on a day to day bases! She admits that she isn't always together. They took Nick and some kids from another family with them. Nick usually is smart about things like sunscreen, too. It is driving me nuts knowing he is not feeling well. I just spoke with him again and he sounds a little better. He said he slept for a little while. I asked if he wanted to come home and he says no becuase it will cost too much for a plane ticket. He also says he doesn't want anyone to think he is a "baby". THis is the first time we have let him travel with a friend anywhere out of state. In fact his friends parents couldn't understand why we gave them a medical release form. When I mentioned it to the dad of the other kids he said he had never thought of that either. I am trying not to be too over protective but I just can't imagine leaving a child that may be ill by himself at a campsite. I would have stayed back with him/her. Of course I would also have made sure sunscreen had been used too. They may be teens but they are still kids!!

I forgot to say I really appreciate the prayers!
