We have a school competition at University of Tennesee in May and need to find clean but budget friendly hotel near the University. Would prefer pool and free breakfast options. Those who know the area please let me know if any recommendations!

I don't have any specific hotel recommendations, but the area around the campus is a little hilly. You'll want to wear comfortable walking shoes for the trip!

We've used hotwire in the past and only choose 3* rating hotels with 90% recommendation rating and have been pleased so far.

I always check Trip Advisor myself, but read the most recent reviews/ratings for anywhere you're trying to book. It always gives you a better idea of where you might be staying when you arrive.

Is it for the DI competition? 2 of my grandsons competed there last year and hope to qualify this year.(They will find out next weekend) They stayed in the dorms.

Have you started to look yet? I would start checking hotels to see who has availability and maybe make a RSVP (that way you'll at least have something) and then continue to look for the best deal. You can always cancel the original one. Good Luck

I had good luck at the Baymont Inn near Cedar Bluff. It's probably a 15 minute drive down the interstate, but traffic gets very slow during rush hours. Knoxville has a big city traffic problem in a small-ish town. The Hilton downtown is very nice as well, but it's a bit pricier. Stay away from the Super 8 in North Knoxville - 100% disgusting... I'm picky about hotels, but this is the only one I've walked out of when I saw my room.

I lived in Knoxville for about 6 years getting my degrees from UTK, and still visit regularly. Feel free to PM me if you have any questions about the town! :)

You're probably. It going to find a nice pool near UT. You'll need to get out of town a few miles. Cedar Bluff Road area is notorious for terrible traffic. You are. Enter off staying an exit or two further away to avoid the traffic at that exit. Anything near Turkey Creek should be good. And there is a lot of close food/shopping.

Turkey Creek has traffic issues as well, but a lot of options as far as dining/shopping. Anything to the West is going to give you traffic headaches, but I am not a fan of the hotels in east or north Knoxville. If we decide to stay downtown, we generally stay at the Hilton or Mariott. Market Square is fun this time of year and with all that is going on, you won't have an issue finding something to do .

If it's for Destination imagination, the downtown hotels are usually booked for officials.

The team and coaches, I strongly encourage to stay in the dorms. It's the best experience.

I would recommend that the family stay in Turkey Creek. Lots of places to stay and eat.

I've been to the tournament 3 times. But for many it's a once in a lifetime experience, for the kids make the most out of it
