pirate: Having never been to Knottsberry Farms we really just wantd to know what to expect what we will get when we go there and try out once and for all the Knott's Chicken Dinner??? Is it honestly that great and is it worth the time to frequent this particular restaurant?? Thanks, Chip.

Yes, it's worth it. They have other things other than the chicken on the menu now, but if I go for dinner (I usually just go for breakfast--eggs and chicken hash, yum), I must go with the classic fried chicken. You get soup (chicken noodle), salad, 4 pieces of chicken, mashed potatoes, gravy, choice of either corn or cabbage with ham, and bisquits (possibly the best part of the meal), plus dessert--either pie (boysenberry or apple) or boysenberry sherbet or ice cream, plus I think it includes your beverage.

For me this place is about more than the food, though. It's filled with memories for me.

We go there every time we are in Southern California. It is wonderful. Lately we have been getting take out to save money and eating it at the picnic tables outside of Knotts. The only problem with it is that if you go during a busy time, there is a long line to be seated. Debby

Does anyone know either the lunch or dinner prices?
Even better, is there a menu on the web somewhere?
Thanks.

Here's a link to more info on it but I didn't see any prices.

I'm not going to say it's the best and when you get there, you're dissappointed. But, as iceskatejen said, it is worth it and it is very good.

Theres also a choice of rubarb for something I don't remember what, just know that's what most of my family gets.

If you want to save a bit of money, and don't care about the restuarant atmosphere, you can continue down past the chicken dinner restuarant and go to the Chicken to go. They just have the chicken, and a bunch of sides, and soup, maybe salad too, we never buy that, and the biscuits. They have all different meal plans, plus you can also purchase the stuff seperately. Even the chicken by the piece. For our family of 3 we usually spend about $24 with plenty of extra chicken for the next day, 2 large sides, biscuits and large soup. They sometimes have meal specials that include a whole pie and 2 litre bottle of coke. They also have a bakery next door for dessert. If you walk towards the park exit, there are a bunch of tables to sit and eat your food. They also have a big picnic area on the otherside of beach blvd (you have to walk under the street on the walkway, it's near the main parking lot for the parks).

You could also take the food back to your hotel if you prefer. We have canadian relatives who stay in palm springs for the winter. They drive out from Palm springs at least 2 or 3 times during their stay just to go to Knotts for dinner (and it's about a 2 hour drive).

I live not too far from Knotts, and have had the Chicken House many times. It is still one of the best places to eat. I have never done the Chicken to go, but I am sure it is also great.

 I'm drooling just thinking about those biscuits! It's not fine dineing by any means. More like what grandma used to make, but that's fine by us. A trip to Knotts is not complete without the Chicken Dinner restaurant, at least not for my kids.

We went to Knotts Restaurant around Thanksgiving time, and if I remember correctly all dinners were something like $12.95, which I thought was pretty reasonable. They also have a couple of non-chicken items on the menu.

You get either soup or strawberry rhubarb cold soup (I always pick this, but my family doesn't care for it) or salad -- you also might get a choice of two of these meal starters, entree, biscuits, corn or cabbage, and dessert. It's a full meal, and very tasty. I think it's a good price for the meal. However, if you go at prime meal time, expect to stand in line a long time. We waited for a little over an hour - and there are no reservations ahead of time.

To avoid prime meal times, can you leave the park to eat at the restaurant and then go back in?

Yes. They will stamp your wrist so you can leave the park & return on the same day.

The chicken is good, not as good as it use to be, havin had annual pass's to Knotts and going all the time we did notice when the was something different with the taste, one time we had gone, the chicken tasted different and I asked the host and she said Oh, they had been having trouble with the fryers hehe.

We still wait in line for it :)

Ok, I'm going to go against all the other opinions here. I used to think the Knott's chicken was the best, and would make a special trip over there when we visited DL.

But then one day I decided to try the fried chicken at the Plaza Inn in DL and found that I liked it much better. So now, no more time away from DL. (Hmm, maybe that's why it tastes better?)

So, yes its good stuff. But not the best around.

I also don't care for Knott's chicken. I tried it once (and once only) and found it to be pretty undercooked. There were 5 of us, and all of us had the same experience. That was 1999.

This past December DFi decided to give it another try (he grew up in the area and had had it many times) and said that while it was at least thoroughly cooked this time it wasn't anywhere as good as it used to be.

I grew up having Knotts chicken and although I do agree that it used to be better it still is pretty darn good !

Some tips for saving money
1. Split a dinner with someone and order a side of mashed potatoes.
2. Order a two piece dinner and you will get at least one piece of white meat ,usullay a very large breast. Saves on ordering an all white dinner
3. Go for lunch. You only get soup or salad, chicken, potatoes, veggie and biscuits but we find it to be more that enough and a considerable savings.
4. If you are there on a Sunday do the sunday brunch!!! They have the chicken and biscuits and potatoes but also an omlette bar waffels and lots of desserts !!!!
We have our family reunion at the Knott's Sunday brunch it is a big hit with everyone!

That sounds great! Actually we will be there on a Sunday! Can you tell me more? How much is the brunch, and is there a long wait? That would be so convenient to eat there for breakfast AND dinner. Is there enough difference that we wouldn't mind eating there twice in one day? Thanks!

The Brunch is in the back part of the restaurant. Usually you will see a line at the front by the doors that are across from Virginias's gift . Go pass theses doors and continue on down what is the side of the restaurant to the back entrance, it is across from the rest rooms near the Snoopy gift shop.
I'm not sure of the price since we always have a group discount but I think it's in the neighborhood of $15.00.

If you want to go somewhere else for dinner try the Claim Jumper it's really good but the portions are HUGE so plan on sharing something.

You can probably get more info by emailing Knotts from their website.
And check out the Claim Jumper at it's web site.

Hope this helps !

My DH likes the Knott's chicken dinner alot as well as the Douwe Eggberts coffee there. But he thinks the Plaza Inn chicken is also very good, so like got2travel, we have not been to Knott's for that reason in quite a while.

However, my DH does prefer Popeye's over either of the aforementioned, so take our opinions with a grain of salt. His preferences are largely shaped by a southern influence. He prefers Popeye's Spicy Fried chicken because to him it tastes more like his grandmothers homemade fried chicken, she is from Louisiana and my DH swears hers is the best fried chicken around. So if you are ever in the Monterey, CA area give Grandma Angie a holler. :rotfl:
