I'm new to the whole DVC thing, and am renting points for AKV Kidani in December. I'm curious as to how much space there is in the kitchen. There will be 8 of us in a 2 bedroom, and we're hoping to cook at least breakfast in the room, as well as maybe some dinners ( I doubt it, but it might happen :) ) How much room in the kitchen is there for us to bring food and store it? I know there are plates and such, but do I need to bring stuff like dishsoap, sponges, etc?

I know, dumb questions, but I always get hung up on the little things...

Here are some pictures from my stay in a 2 BR in November.

The table only sits 4.

Here is an picture with my niece to give you an idea on how big the center work area is.

That gives me a better idea of what to bring. Thanks!

There should also be some dishwasher soap (1 pkt?), a sponge or 2, plus a small bottle of dish liquid if you want to wash the dishes by hand.

My 2 br was a lock-off but I don't remember how many plates there were. (i.e. were there 4 or 8?) I didn't think to write it down.

Just an FYI. The Jambo kitchens are extremely inconvenient. The island is nice, and you need it for sure, but even how the things are arranged in the cupboards is very inconvenient.

Oh, and don't plan on making pancakes like we usually do.....No spatula to turn them with! When I asked for one, they brought me a second "skimmer". It's a curved round utensil for skimming fat off of soups etc, but totally worthless for turning pancakes!

Good to know. My parents live in Florida, but are coming to stay with us the week we're there. Maybe I'll have them bring some kitchen stuff with them.

My son is a diabetic, so I figure the more meals I can make in the room that I know he'll eat, the better off we'll be :)

If you click on the link in my signature, you can see what the kitchen in the Kidani 1BR/2BRs should look like. Kidani isn't open yet but these photos were taken in the model room which is based on the Kidani floor plan. It is laid out differently from the Jambo House kitchens. For example, the Kidani kitchens are U-shaped whereas the Jambo House kitchens are L-shaped and have a free standing work table. In addition to the dining table and chairs there is a bit more dining space on the back side of the kitchen counter and two tall chairs. I also have photos of the inside of the cupboards and drawers so you can see the kitchen equipment that should be in the kitchen plus the amount of space available for storing groceries.

The kitchen looks spacious enough but the cabinets are filled with plates and glasses. Yet some things are lacking. The plates are really small, there are no spices. We ended up storing a lot on the counter. Also, you might want to bring some of your own detergent. The prices for replacements of many things is expensive!

Hmmm, excellent point on bringing some detergent with you. Maybe dishwasher detergent should be the next entry in my Owner's Locker.

No need for that. If you need more, just call housekeeping, and they'll bring it to you. Also, the packet they start you with is good for a couple of loads.

The problem is that they charge for everything now. I was there last month and there is a list of everything they charge for including extra sheets and everything you would normally get for no fee and a regular hotel.

Of course! This is NOT a hotel accommodation.....it's a timeshare, and everything that has An expense connected to it comes out of owner's dues. If someone requests something above and beyond what is there to begin with, the person requesting it SHOULD be the one to pay extra in a timeshare accommodation.
