King Kong movie suitable for a 4 year old ????

I'm thinking of taking my 4 year old boy to see King Kong but I'm not sure if it will be too boring for him at the start.
I'm not worried about him being scared he loves anything like that, but will there be enough going on before the action really kicks in ?

Mark Como on the radio said it was more frightening than Harry Potter and that the 12A certificate should be adhered to.

I'm sure someone will be able to tell you from personal experience

I would say no. There was a little boy sitting next to us (he was about 6 or 7) and we heard his Mom ask if he was too scared and did he want to leave. He stayed. There are lots of "scary" things in the movie along with gun fire and such.

I think the movie may not be suitable for a young child, although I have only seen clips , there is enough there to scare a a 4 year old I would think.

OMG... is this for real? Would you really consider taking a 4 year old to a 12a film?
Sorry.. I think that is totally irresponsible. The 12 age guideline is there to guide you on the films suitability!
I would think VERY VERY carefully before taking my 6 year old to a PG!!

I remember visiting a neighbour once who was allowing her children (all under 7) to watch "Saving Private Ryan"..she said it was their favorite film...
I made a mental note never to allow my son to play there again without me being present.
Kids are kids for such a short time... I think they should be protected when they are little. Who can tell how it is affecting them?

Absolutely not!

Even taking into account the above mails re 4 year old to a 12a film.... there were bits in the film where I was cringing beyond the back of my seat, so "no" would be my answer!

I took my dd when she was 4 on Kongfrontation at Universal Studios. She was not frightened of the the monkey but was scared of the heat from the fire.

Would I have taken my 4 year old to see King Kong? probably not as the film is too long at three hours for a 4 year old. DD is 12 now and has always known the different between fact and fiction. I think you know your child and know whether they will be scared. As the OP said she was more worried that her son would be bored. If your child was frightened or bored for that matter with Lord of the Rings then don't take them.

BTW DD loves Narnia and this is a slightly shorter film. Lassie is out too!

We went to see this today and it was brilliant but it has a 12 certificate for a reason. It's not just because it's a long film but there are lots of pretty gross bits which I could imagine could give a small child some pretty horrible nightmares.

I haven't seen it but can only imagine that there is a reason for the '12A' certificate. Only you know your child (my 3 year old can't even watch Tom and Jerry because of the violence lol) but, certainly, in my opinion I would not take a 4 year old to see it. If you want him to see it, why not wait till it's out on DVD - that way, you can watch it yourself first to see if it's suitable. Also, if he does get bored/scared then you can turn it off.

I wouldn't like to get into a debate about the moral issues of letting a small child watch a film destined for an older audience but I would imagine there is probably some mild swearing as well as violence/blood and guts. Certainly not something I would want to expose a young child to.
