They just reported on the news that the Kindle was the #1 selling product on Amazon this holiday season. They also said that they sold more "e-books" than regular print texts. Hmmm...I wonder if this was DIS influenced? ;)

It was on Christmas day that Amazon sold more e-books than traditional books. Which, makes since becuase everyone wanted to try out their Christmas present Kindle...

I wonder what the new Apple tablet announcement in Jan will do to the Kindle? I'd suspect cheaper prices for sure? Maybe even put it out of business? it will be interesting for sure.....

I think you might be overstating just a bit.

While the iPhone is very popular, it hasnt put it's competition out of business.

From what I've gathered, the new Apple product is a tablet PC with the ability to read ebooks. Think of it as a larger iPod Touch.

It's competition is probably the netbook market rather than the e-reader market.

Amazon, Sony and B&N have put out dedicated ereaders. I'm not sure that they will be in direct competition with Apple.

Well, I did my part helping to stimulate the Kindle economy. Mine arrived today (FINALLY) with 5 books ready to go as soon as it charges.

I already love being able to read while eating dinner without fumbling with the book and turning pages......

I agree-I think iTablet is going to be more of a threat to Netbooks and portable gaming systems like PSP and Nintendo DS than to the Kindle. The iPod Touch is marketed to people who like to have a portable game system that also plays music, accesses the internet and runs apps like the iPhone-I think this new one will be aiming for a wealthier, perhaps more business oriented segment of that same market.
