DS is going to a private kindergarten this year. We thought there was going to be 13 in the class, turns out only 8. 2 boys!!! I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing. We'll see.........But he starts on Monday and that is a VERY GOOD thing!

Wow, dd's kindergarten class will have 29. They do have a teacher's aide. DD told me again today that she is excited about kindergarten. I hope it lives up to her expectations! Lol;)

Sometimes it just works out that way. John-Cole goes to a small private school and although the class ahead of him and the class behind him are both HUGE....his 6th grade class has only 4 boys (It was only 3 but they got a new boy this week!) His entire class is only 13. I think its great! They get much more 1 on 1 attention this way...although I don't think their football team will be anything spectacular.

That's funny that your son's 6th grade class doesn't have many boys. At the school that I teach our 6th grade class has very few girls. At one time there were only about 4 or 5 in a class of 28 or so. They have been like that since they started kindergarten. Very lopsided. It wouldn't be bad but the girls are very sweet and the boys are rounders.

DD4's pre-K has 14 about half and half.

DD22 mo daycare "class" has 16 (2 teachers), 12 girls and 4 boys! The other 1 year-old glass has the same ratio. Lots of girls that year!!!!

let's see my dd's Kindergarten has 16...the entire grade has 33 not bad

my DS....4th grade has 18 in class 36 in grade

my DS...5th grade has 19 in class 38 in grade

my DD ...7th grade has 19 in class 37 in class....

Not too bad I love the small classes....I didn't realize thought that my youngest had the smallest class I thought it was my oldest...

I wish I had a class with ony 8 people in it, I would have fullfilled my moms dream of having her son be in the top ten academicaly in his class

oh btw I would have been number 8

My son will be doing a Transitional Grade this year (Kindergarten in the morning and 1st grade in the afternoon, taught by the same teacher) and he has 5 kids in his class! :)

Wow... I wish my son could come to your class! He was in a class of 26 kindergarteners last year (and there were 4 classes!). This year it is about the same, if not more!

It will be great for him! And, he may make better friends this way too!

On to the new school year! YIPPEEE!!!!

Be glad! They learn so much in kindergarten that they need the individual attention. DS's class last year had 24 kids(other class had 25) and it was wild. Luckily we have fought enough to get a 3rd class for them this year.

DD loved her kindergarten with only 12 kids...it was full day and they got to do so much! And they had a lead teacher and an aide so the student/teacher ratio was terrific too! Had she gone to the public school she would have had 25 other classmates and only one teacher.

Hope your son enjoys it as much as my DD did.

DD's kindergarten was 15, and I found out first grade will be 14! Gonna be a great year. Big shock when she eventually moves to our (really good) public school with classes of 28.

Last year my class had 23 kindergarteners- we ended up using the pretend play furniture for extra cubbie space! We've been told that this year our classes are capped at 18. We'll see- we always have kids move into the district in the spring. camcolt- I just noticed you're leaving for WDW tomorrow:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc

Does your school have 1/2 day kindergarten classes?

My mom taught kindergarten for several years. Her school had a morning class & an afternoon class. The two were really lopsided. The morning class had 20-something students, the afternoon class was at least 1/2 the size.

The school offered to switch kids from morning to afternoon, but none of the morning parents did. It had to due to day care issues. The parents could drop the kids off on their way to work & then "after-care" would pick them up.

Also, if your school has 1/2 day & the public school has full-day kindergarten, parents are probably opting for that, again to save on day care.
