Kinda OT- Star Wars Birthday Party Ideas on a Budget?

Oh my, I need some help from my fellow Dis'ers. My ds is having his 6th b-day party this weekend, and I have no idea what to do to decorate to make it special. We are not sure if there will be any other children there (there may be 2 cousins coming, girl age 5, boy age 2- mostly just adults though.)

The theme he wants to do is Star Wars. My problem? I have never even seen any of the movies! I have no idea where to even start.

Any help- maybe some themed snacks? Decoration ideas? I am totally out of my element on this one.

My husband brought a book home from the library a couple months ago that was a Star Wars cookbook. It actually had party ideas in it, too. Of course, for the life of me I can't remember the name, but I'm sure if you google, you could find it and lots of other party ideas. One idea was to make a pinata to resemble the Death Star. Just use a regular ballon, cover with paper mache (easy to make with newspaper and glue/water mixture), pop the balloon when dry, then spray paint it gray. Use green Kool-Aid and Sprite to make Jabba the Hut's punch. Make cupcakes and use chocolate sprinkles on them for Ewok cakes. If your son wants the newer movie theme, you could do green and red Kool-Aid for the Jedi and Sith colors. An obstacle course where the kids try to be the Jedi outwitting the Sith could be fun, or a hunt to find clues and reach Anakin. For my son's party, I printed pictures of the "good guys" and "bad guys" (Transformers, but it would work with a Star Wars theme, too), then we put them on our back fence and had the kids take turns throwing water balloons at them. Hit a bad guy, get 10 points, hit a good guy, lose 10 points. The winner got a little prize. That simple game was the hit of the party. I also had the boys decorate a paper lunch sack as they arrived and we used the sacks to keep their prizes from the games in, as well as to carry home their goodies. They actually enjoyed that so much that I had to pull them away from it 1/2 hour later so we could get started with the party. I printed out pictures of various characters and laid out glue sticks and markers and they all went to town on their bags. Good luck and have fun!

DS' birthday was last Monday. Fortunately he wanted to go simple with just 2 friends and DD. We had Star Wars plates and napkins at Chuck E Cheese. I made the cake from a picture in a Star Wars coloring book.

Love this thread - have a 4 yr old who absolutely loves Star Wars. Our friends little guy had a Star Wars themed party, but we didn't make it. The only thing we did experience was "Yoda Soda" - sherbert and Sprite! Our kids still call it that and we occasionally get the fixin's for a treat!

You could make lightsabers out of pool noodles for the kids (and maybe some adults )

We are doing this for my son's party in August and we did a test one - they were so easy and the kids LOVE playing with them and no one gets hurt!

if you want to make light sabers. We made some for my nephews last halloween. We cut a little section where the handle is smalller, for little hands, then applied the duct tape. You could cut and put the first layer of duck tape on the light sabers, and then if you have black and silver duck tape, let the kids decorate their own at the party. Of course you may or may not allow sword type items in your home.

I just helped a friend make a light saber cake. I took french bread loaf pans covered the ends with tin foil and got long tubes of cake. Then I used regular frosting and lots of food coloring to get the design correct. I literally copied a toy that he plays with...BTW I used a similar method to make a baseball bat cake last year.

It was a fun cake, and easy to serve the kids. For party favors each kid took home a Mr. Potato Head Star Wars creature. There are four available on the Hasbro website, and another 6 you can get from Disney as exclusives. She had ten kids at the party, to make it more fun for the kids. Each Potato head was numbered, and each seat was had a number under the chair, kids choose their location and claimed their spud when it was time to go.

Some of the kids even came dressed in costumes?

If you need some favors...check eBay for people that sell croc charms. I got some for our treasure boxes at school. Yoda, C3P0/R2D2, Darth Vadar head.

You can get 2 or 3 dozen for just a couple dollars. If you do a buy it now, and see if they could mail today, you should have them by Thursday or Friday if they're on your half of the country.

We hosted a House Party Star Wars:Clone Wars party last fall. One of the biggest hits was having the kids make their own Yoda out of clay. They enjoyed being creative. With littler kids, you could do it with homemade play dough (or real play dough). They could make whomever they wanted. It also serves as a favor to take home...

There are recipes and game/activity ideas in them. Wookie Cookies, Yoda Soda, "Han" burgers, etc.

I made a cake for my son's party out of cupcakes...two crossed light sabers.

Not as great as the other cake posted, but it was nice and simple for me!
