Hi everyone. I am new to the DL boards not the disboards. We are moving to WA state and will be going to DL instead of DW. We are only 13 hours now from the world. Whar are the perks of DL I am kinda upset about not going to DW for awhile. Thanks to the Army. What can I exspect there? Also what is the best time of year to go. We were thinking about Feb.

perks of DL is everything! well i can tell you that MOST people i know and MANY MANY on here as well, who have been to both parks, REALLY prefer DL wayyyyyy more! it has a special touch to it, maybe being that it was created by walt himself. but good time to go is the middle of may. low chance of ride refurbs, awesome weather and low chance of rain, and low crowds. :)

Unless you want to golf or take boat rides DLR has just about everything WDW has minus al the hotels and eating spots... but in many ways the original is the best. The rides are better at DL too; Space Mountain and Pirates are better in Cali and Indiana Jones doesn't even exist in Florida.

WDW is great, been many times but DLR is Walt's place that started it all.

I love both places roughly the same, but Disneyland holds a special place in my heart. If you go to Disneyland with an open mind looking to experience what makes Disneyland special you'll have a great time. Take time to smell the roses so to speak and enjoy the only park in the world built by Walt Disney himself.

I have been to DL before many years ago. Before DH and kids. I don't remember it that much. So after looking around the boards and readiing you comments AND pictures DH and I are looking forward to it. Kids are game for anything. Does anyone know where we can buy discounts military tickets there?

OMG!!!!! Don't get me started on ALL the ways DL is better than WDW!!! #1 SM at DL is completely different than the one at WDW!!! Way Better!!! #2 ISW is completely different also!!! So much better!! #3 POTC is way better!!! #4 You can walk everywhere within 15-20 minutes depending on crowd. Oh the list I could make on here. Come on everyone help me out...What do you think is better? Oh and also...we don't have the horrible Stitch thing! Oh that was 10 minutes of my life I wish I could have back!
I can also list why they are better. You will be pleasantly surprised!

There are military discounts on Disneyland admission. One needs to check with their base MWR for info. The amount of discount all depends upon the time of year. And remember to bring your military i.d. to the gate.
It is very possible that a better discount may be available that is non-military. For I have seen this be the case before. It is a matter of comparison shopping.
I hope that you and your family have a really awesome and fun time while travelling to, and visiting Disneyland.

What can you expect? You can expect a magical experience that has similarities and differences to WDW. Here is a good place to start:

"A DLR Guide for WDW Vets" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1162599

Also what is the best time of year to go. We were thinking about Feb.
Best means different things to different people. Best weather? Lowest crowds? Fullest entertainment schedule?

Be aware that Feb is off-season at DLR (Disneyland Resort, of which DL - Disneyland - is a theme park) and there are more downsides to off-season at DLR than WDW.

See "What You Should Know About Off-Season at DLR" www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=18462889

Wow thank you for all the info on the DLR. I don't remember much and it has changes so much. I am looking forward to going to these 2 parks.
