Kind of dumb question

I don't cook much and there are big gaps in my knowledge of anything food-related. So I have a question right now - how are you supposed to store corn on the cob between when you bring it home from the store and when you cook it? Everything I do seems to be wrong. Should it be in the fridge or room temperature and should you leave it in the husks or take it out? I've been leaving it in the husks at room temperature but the husks get all gross, even though the corn inside seems okay.

Help! ;)

I grew up on a farm where we picked corn, husked it, and threw it in a pot so I'm a bit of a purist when it comes to corn on the cob. I buy it at a local farm market on the day I'm going to fix it but I don't husk it until right before I'm cooking it.

If you can't cook it right away or on the same day, I'd probably put it in the fridge w/the husks on but I don't know the "official" answer.

(I probably shouldn't have responded - my answer isn't really an answer, sorry).

I agree that you should buy it the day you are going to cook it. If you can't do that I ususally husk it and put it in the fridge. I won't keep it more then a day that way though...I like my corn FRESH! I too, grew up where we walked out back to pick it right before dinner!

In the husk in the fridge. But use it quickly so it doesn't get slimy also if you put a little sugar in the water when you boil it the corn has a sweeter flavor to it.

I buy mine either the day I'm going to use it.. Now, if something goes a muck as it sometimes does.. I leave it in the husk for no more than one more day.. by the afternoon of the following day my DS5 is making sure every 5 minutes that I'm cooking his corn for dinner!!!

There isn't anything better than corn freshly picked and thrown in the pot is there? THis thread made me very very hungry for fresh sweet corn!

Mine is starting to grow nicely. It took forever to get it in with all the rain. We should have yellow squash in another week or so. I'm really looking forward to that!

Man, I want some corn now!!

I always heard to leave it in the husk and buy it the day you are going to eat it before it gets all starchy. I was beginning to wonder if I was wrong though because all the grocery stores have these big bins for you to take the husks off there. I always thought that would dry it out
