A Philly Pretzel Factory opened up just down the street. It's the second one in our area now, and they're ALWAYS busy! Nice hot pretzels, 3/$1. Can't beat it!! :cloud9:

Oh, and yes, I'm extremely proud. She's turning into a beautiful, wonderful young lady.

Hi Kim!! Sorry I've been MIA from the journals...TOTAL LTO going on as you know.

I first have to ask...how is your sister doing? Been thinking about her and hoping for the best.

GREAT pic of your DD....LOVE the pretzels. Doesn't it STINK tho...they are growing up too fast :(. My DD8 just celebrated her b'day and I can't believe how she's grown. *sigh*

Glad to hear your dad is on the mend...but it sure sounds like he's got quite a road to travel in his recovery. Getting back home will be a HUGE deal though so sending lots of well wishes that he's released soon! :goodvibes

Kim...be careful with those ankles. Since you tend to suffer similar problems as me...hip bursitis :(....(we must have a similar build) then I hate to say that's an area of weakness for me. It's the Post Tib Tendon and it can get irritated/inflamed. It probably has something to do with our hip issues. So...ICE ICE ICE after runs....do LOTS of calf stretches since they all attach right there and keep up with your hip stretches. Have you had your running gait checked? I just wonder if maybe you aren't an overpronator like me??? :confused3 If so then maybe you should be wearing a shoe that is more for stability. I'd look into that if you haven't already done so!

Hey Amy. Thanks for asking about my sister. She's hanging in there for the time being. She has an appt with the oncologist next week, and then we'll see where she goes from there.

We don't have a true running store around here, but maybe I need to find one and just drive whatever time it takes to get checked out. The store I've bought my last 2 pairs of sneakers from is a cycling & fitness store with a little running section built in. I'll definitely take your advice and stretch the calves well and ice the ankle. So far so good with the hip. I'm thinking the extra stretching is helping that out a bit. Oh, and the fact that I don't run very far.

Thanks for stopping by. I always appreciate your advice and support.

LOVE LOVE LOVE the pretzels!! Wish we had something like that here! Too cool!! And Emilie is such a cutie!!

Oh, and I'll take you up on the $100! I'll stop growing up now for $100 bucks!!! :lmao:

Hi kim! Just stopping in to check in on a 5k bud!! ;) Hope you can find some good shoes -- i would definately look for a good place, and make it a day trip.. your feet will thank you i am sure!!!

Hi Kim,

I love those pretzels that you got for Em's birthday! Very cool!:thumbsup2

I hope you are able to find some good shoes soon.:goodvibes

Have a great weekend!

Hey guys. Not much to report here. Normal craziness. Just wanted to journal that we ran another 30 minutes y'day at lunch. Breathing was better, but still not great. But the ankle felt fine.

I don't think I'm gonna rush out to buy a new pair of sneakers yet. I'm gonna see how it goes with some extra stretching and some ice.

Have a GREAT weekend! :thumbsup2

Kim -

Thanks for making me hungry now every time I visit your journal (thank goodness it was a picture of pretzels and not ice cream :rotfl: )...seriously, that pretzel thing is SO COOL! Did they taste as great as they looked?

Awesome job with getting in yet another run...you are on a roll!! I'm glad your ankle is feeling better.

Hope you have a great weekend

Kim, great job keeping up the workouts despite a hectic schedule :). I'm proud of you! Running for 30 minutes is a major accomplishment in my book!!! :goodvibes

Also glad to hear the ankles are doing well! Just listen to your body and if they act up again look into your options.

Have a great weekend.

Hi Kim
Glad DD had a lovely birthday :)
The pretzels looked good - although i've never had them befroe!!
Something we dont really get over here!
Hope you have a good weekend & the foot is ok!

Kim,

I just love your DD's birthday pretzels. What a great idea for a classroom celebration. She looks so happy--I hope she had a great day! And 9 is a big deal, as the last of the single digits. She's now well into her tweens. for you on that one.

I second (third? fourth?) the getting the shoes checked out. I've been putting off getting new shoes, and my knee (my sore spot--hah!) is letting me know that that's not a good idea. I'm icing my knee, doing stretching exercises, and those things help the recovery. But I'm always ready for any excuse to buy more gear! :thumbsup2 Hopefully your ankle is healing & doesn't really need them, but I'd say you deserve the treat anyway.

Hey guys!

Scott - Unfortunately I didn't get to sample those pretzels, since they were for DD's class...but the SMELL alone was enough to start my stomach growling. (they were warm...mmmmmmmmmmm)

Tracey - OK, next time you're in WDW, buy a soft pretzel from the Germany pavillion at Epcot. (they might have them in the American section too) Soft pretzels (especially when they're warm) are one of my most favorite foods in the world. (a little yellow mustard with it and I'm a happy girl  )

Amy and deekaypee - you got it. As soon as I feel something with the ankle again, I'll get checked out. :thumbsup2

Amy
(again ;) ) - Thanks so much for the encouragement. I agree that 30 minutes straight running is a major accomplishment. My running buddy and I said that after our Thursday run, "remember how week 2 of the c25k was this hard?" :goodvibes I'm definitely glad that I'm on my way back to where I was (minus the heavy leg and hip pain  )

OK, as for my run today....I ran a 5k again, like last weekend. This week's time was 36 mins 29 seconds. I only looked at my watch at the one mile mark because I felt like I was really speeding along. Well, I was right, because I finished the first mile in 10 mins 15 seconds. I slowed down a bit for a while, but when I was somewhere between 1/2 and 1/4 miles from home I picked up the pace significantly. So much so that I was definitely in a sprint. I felt awesome and my breathing was right on point. I didn't do it to finish in a certain time or anything, just to see how I would feel. Feeling good while doing that made me think I might enjoy doing a short, fast run every now & then. Maybe I'll throw that into the mix as I increase my miles. :confused3 Whaddya think?

Wow Kim...GREAT run girly! I'm so proud of you...I think you're training so smart and through all your tough times you've kept at it. MAJORYLY impressed with that!

How is Dad and Sis doing? How are YOU doing? I know it's been a rough month for you guys!

As for throwing in a speedy run every now and then...I think it's a great idea :). You could even add little "bursts" of speed during a run...called a fartlek...which makes me giggle  . Anyway...it's a great way to improve your HR AND make you speedier.

Have a great week! :sunny:

Hi Kim!

I second Amy's thoughts up there (shocking, i know)...you've done a tremendous job with the runs...keep up the great work!!

I found the fartleks to be surprisingly taxing...and a great way to add a little spice in the runs. You should definitely try it and have fun with it!!

Hope the week ahead is a good one for you!

Hey...did you ever get that car rental deal squared away? Just curious!

HI Kim! Way to go on that run! Great job!!! You did have a speedy run! I'm so jealous! :goodvibes

Hope you guys had a good weekend! How is your family???

Stacie

Mornin' all! :surfweb:

Sis goes tomorrow to the oncologist in Philly, so please keep her in your prayers. Dad goes every morning to get his IV antibiotics and I believe he will be rechecked (via ct scan) later this week to make sure the antibiotics are starting to clear him up. Once he gets the all clear, then he goes to the surgeon to set a date for the colon surgery.

Me? I'm hanging in there. I need a week off to find my house that has been neglected and to de-stress a bit. But that won't happen since I use up my vacation time in Disney World. Priorities, you know. ;) I'm trudging along and doing ok. The running definitely helps mentally.

As for the running...My buddy and I have decided to add in a 4th day of running. No real reason, just that we feel like we could do a bit more. We might make that a quick 2 mile run or a really slow 3 miler. Not sure yet. But either way, we're gonna do something on that 4th day. I certainly need it because I can't seem to stop eating lately. Definitely stress related. :rolleyes1 You'd think I'd be all inspired to eat well and lose a few pounds since I'm going to have a bathing suit on in Florida in 6 weeks  . Hopefully that'll kick in soon.

I will definitely try out the fartleks (I agree - extremely funny name). I still can't believe how good I felt and wasn't gasping for air. :)

Scott - Yes, we did get the rental car. BIL actually reserved it, since his credit card had some type of insurance coverage (meaning, we didn't have to pay Alamo for theirs). We got what I consider a GREAT deal - $175 for 5 days for a full sized SUV (over a weekend). It was only $15 more for the full sized SUV rather than an economy car! Thanks again for your help with the research.

One final note...I wanted to post an update from my surgery. It was definitely a success! :woohoo: I wasn't one of the lucky 25% that never bleeds again, but it is WAY more manageable and only lasts 4-5 days instead of almost 3 weeks!!! :cool1: I'm SO glad I went ahead with that surgery. The next 20 years or so of my life should be much better than they would've been. :thumbsup2

Have a great week!

Hi Kim
I'm so glad the surgery went well for you :)
Great news on the speedy runs :)
Hoping all goes well for your sis.

Hi Kim,

Great job with the running. I'm glad the stretching is helping with your hip, just watch the ankle. Your daughter is gorgeous, and I am hungry just thinking about those pretzels. You family is in my prayers. Keep us posted on how the appointment goes tomorrow.

Take care,
Beth

Mornin' Kimmy!!
Glad everything is settling down for ya! Prayers being said for sis....keep us informed! Oh...I got the funniest card in the mail on Saturday!! Cracked me up!! Thanks.....you didn't have to do that!

I'm extremely jealous....I want to start running again....I just don't know how to get my butt in gear! DH and I have been walking again, and it feels great.....I just want to go to the next level.

Anyway, have a great day and I'll talk to ya soon!!
