Hi all,

Any help would be very much welcomed. Has anyone eaten at Kimonos with children? Do they have meals for children other than sushi. And what about adults that don't eat sushi. I love it but not all in our party like it so I thought I would ask. I made reservations but feel a little weird about it. Thanks for the info!:thumbsup2

Are ADR's required for this restaurant?

YES, they are. They do not take the dinning plan nor can you charge to your room.

I was told by the dinning CM that they have other food for children but did not see it on the menu. thats why i was asking for those that went there personally.

We've never made ADR's here; it's usually pretty quiet, unless you like to eat late. We like Kimonos, precisely because it doesn't seem to be really popular with the small children crowds, probably because it isn't in the parks and doesn't take the DDP (halleluia) :) We've never seen children's offerings there, but then again, we've never gone with kids. It seems to be mostly Japanese fare, none of the chicken nuggets & pizza that other places offer for kids.

Cheers!

You can charge to your room if staying at the Swan/Dolphin. I don't think you need reservations there if you go early.
When staying at the Swan, I ordered sushi for carry out to our room 4 times (my kids love sushi, but I must explain DH is Korean, so we eat rice and such a lot, and DS was born in Hawaii, lucky guy, as we were there for a few years).
I eat sushi weekly (if lucky) and Kimonos food is very very good. You pay for it though, as food for me and two kids, ages 9 and 7 at the time was usually about $80 or a bit less. Okay, maybe we ordered a lot (and ate it!)
Kids can order rice, miso soup (they charge more than most restaurants for this), maybe a shrimp tempura appetizer. No set kids' menu - DS loves tuna sushi and DD likes the tamago, california roll, maybe some soup. I love it all, and it was fresh. Didn't like the rainbow roll though.
I carried out last time I was at the Dolphin with my friend and her 4 kids (we left our DH's at home, and they put us close together) and I ran into her at Kimono's. She said that they agreed to bring kids' meals from Gulliver's for her 4 kids so she could relax and order sushi there - you could definitely ask when you get to Kimono's regarding that. The kids menus from Gulliver's were about $5 or so, chicken tenders, etc...
Kimono's is very quiet when they first open up in the evening - I think they get more crowded later. If you have kids I'd do the early evening, and ask about the other menu.
Overall, I found the service at the Swan and Dolphin very much above average (and I'm a hotel snob, sorry, but I am! I love our local Ritz Carlton and they know us well;) )
I do highly recommend the place as it's a nice break from Disney. I will miss it on our next trip.

Do they frown on you bringing in kids food from the other restaurant, or is it better to just feed the kids first? Does Gulliver's do to-go meals? Allears seems to imply there's some kind of character dining there in the evening, but the menu looks much more like what the girls would want for dinner (the younger one is on the Chicken Nuggets and Pizza Diet, or so she seems to think!)

Do they care if the kids are there at all? I know it's WDW, but being a sushi bar and being that it's in the Swan... that's two strikes against what my gut says would be kid friendly. We have ADRs for Fulton's the Saturday night of our stay, but I know we've talked about sushi for our special-fancy meal too... but Fulton's seems more kid friendly. The older one may eat tempura, and she's tried sushi before so she may like a California roll. The younger one... with her, trust me, to you and I the leap from chicken nugget to chicken tempura may seem a vast improvement and desirable, but to her?? She often time refuses to eat Shake and Bake chicken nuggets. :sad2: If it's not frozen and pre-formed, or pizza, it's a trial.

Doing a search, it appears that they don't accept ADRs... will this be a problem on a Saturday night (BEFORE the karaoke starts, like 6 PM)? Can you call the restaurant directly and make a reservation?

They probably frown on you doing it, yes – but it’s likely the restaurant will let your kids order food from another restaurant in the hotel.

I always considered it more of a bar then restaurant....the sushi is great, but they have small tables and more of a lounge type atmosphere...They will let you bring in other food earlier in the day when they are not busy

but it would probably be better to get your take out from them and eat at the food court if your mixing your dining locals
