I know everyone recommends the safari first thing in the am/ last in the pm...have heard the animals are more active before the day heats up. That makes perfect sense....but...
I am going in February when it will be cooler. Should I still plan to do that first, or will it be too cold for the animals to be active?
Anyone who has gone in the winter had any experience with this?
Thanks in advance!

I think the reason they are more active in the morning is not only due to the heat, but the feeding. Even when we went in December we found them to be more active in the morning. I always try to do this attraction twice though, as you always see something different each time.

we always go in Feb. The animals are more active during feeding time -- early am late pm. In Feb when it is cooler they are less likely in be sleeping back in the brush in the shade, especially the cats. They like to lay out in the sun.

February mornings are a great time to ride the Safari. We were there February 2002 and 2003. This last february we rode it first, got off and rode again, and then again. Each time we saw different animals, etc. (Sit on the other side of the car the second time; it's really different.)

Thanks for the advice! Being from warm-weather climates (I think?) I just wasn't sure if the animals (esp the cats) stayed asleep or whatever until it was warm enough.

I lived in central florida for a while a long time ago, and can't remember exactly, but I thought February was rather cool, especially in the mornings and at night.

Sandi, since you rode repeatedly, I assume the park wasn't too crowded?

Very low crowds, especially in the morning. (I guess people just won't get out of bed.) While it's a long walk from the exit to the entry, that's all the time we took. No waiting.
