Well, an interesting start to the vacation. We hadn't been here 2 hours Tuesday when DD11 fell from an inflatable bounce cushion at the campground and strained her ankle. After a horrible night Tuesday I took her to the local ER yesterday and we confirmed a displaced fracture at the bottom of the tibia, right at the ankle. Now she's on crutches and facing 6-8 weeks in a cast, at best.

The CG staff has been checking in constantly, and we discovered that the camper next door is an ER doc, so she's getting plenty of attention. She's just bummed out that her summer activities- swimming, biking, etc are essentially over for the year. Can't wait to see what the rest of the week has in store.

So training camp claims another one for the season. She doesn't play for the Eagles, does she?

Wow, that really stinks. Sorry to hear you/she had such a rough start. It can only get better from here, though, right? :)

It's bad enough when something happens to the big people,,but when it's our young'ns,,it really makes ya feel for the little guys,,gals.
She's too young for kungaloosh,,so you'll havta do the next best thing,, take her fish'n ! :thumbsup2
Course you'll havta wait on her hand and foot.

get it,, hand and FOOT ! :lmao:

Dang Rob, sorry to hear about your little one's problems. Hope the rest of the trip is awesome, with no more drama!!!

Even tho she can't do those things you mentioned,,I'm tell'n ya,,this is the PERFECT time for her to become a 11 year old Pro Fisherman,,uh,,Fisherwoman , yeah thats the ticket, :thumbsup2

Sorry to hear about her ankle Rob! I hope she'll still be able to enjoy the vacation.

My 12 year old nephew cracked a bone in his foot Sunday. School started Monday. Thankfully, they put him in a walking cast so he doesn't have to use crutches in school.

She's in a soft splint and wrap for now. We have an appointment with the ortrho doc next Monday, then probably surgery Tuesday. Right now they plan to manipulate it and cast, it doesn't look like we need a plate and screws. I hope not, she's getting nervous about that.

Ewww, no fun. My dd13 was hit by a car 5 years ago and had to go through a lot with her leg. She had an external fixater (she said it looked like they were turning her into a robot). Several surgeries and her fibula had to be removed. She runs track now and is a normal pain in the butt teenage girl. LOL

Ask them if her growth plate was affected. That is what they worried about with my dd. Apparently whatever the growth plate is. :confused3 is somewhere in that area. They checked it regularly for a year. My dd's was not, not sure what they would do if it was, I know nothing about ortho stuff.

All this to say, she will be fine. She is gonna be miserable for a little while and that means ya'll will be too, but it will all work out.

Cool thing about casts now is that you can choose a color. Some places even have glow in the dark. Just beware of the smell. Especially in the heat.

She is in my prayers for a speedy and as painless as possible recovery.

Rob, sorry to hear about your dd's leg/ankle! Hope she feels better quickly!

Our now 13 yo DD broke a leg on Spring Break then the same leg in almost the same spot during summer vacation. The Ortho is going to insert a rod for the bone to adhere to if she ever refrains from breaking it long enough. How does she do it? She's wheelchair bound (even before the breaks) and almost total care.
