The 4 of us: DH and Myself (married 2 years, no kids) and my parents, both in their 50's.

DH and I spent 4 days at Disney World last September (2000). We had such a great time we decided to bring my parents with us this year. They haven’t been to WDW in over 10 years (since I was a teenager). We are driving from Atlanta to Orlando and we are traveling in 2 cars.

Day One
It began with an uneventful drive from Atlanta to Orlando. My husband is the type who refuses to be rushed while he is on vacation, so we were a little late getting out of town (around 11:00 am) but we had all day to get there, so there was really no reason to rush. My parents, however, were anxious to get there and they left before us, around 8:00 a.m.

On their way into Orlando, mom and dad stopped by the floridaorlandotickets.com office to pick-up our 5-Day Park Hoppers and Universal Escape passes. We saved over $75 by ordering them online…but I was a little anxious about receiving $1,200 worth of tickets in the mail, so we thought picking them up would be a better idea. And by picking them up we saved $7.00 in shipping & handling. Floridaorlandotickets.com is located across the street from the Splendid China Theme park. It was easy to find and we didn’t have any problems with the tickets, so I would definitely recommend them!

DH and I arrived in Orlando around 6:30. It was Friday rush hour in Orlando and there was a fatal car accident on the Florida Turnpike earlier that day which was just clearing up as we got there. We had a townhouse reserved at Doubletree Guest Suites Maingate. I got the room on Priceline for $40 (+ $5 bonus). It was a nice 2 story townhouse with 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a full kitchen. The room overlooked a small pond. The décor and furniture was typical. The room was clean, but very plain.

Mom and Dad were already there. They had just returned from Boston Market with our dinner. We ate and then decided to walk next door to play miniature golf. 18 holes later we were feeling the effects of our long drive and decided to call it a night.

Thoughts on Doubletree Guest Suites Maingate... It was a terrific value for $40.00. It was about 10 minutes from the Downtown Disney entrance. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. The room was clean, but was showing its age. The furniture and decor was minimal. Would I stay there again? Probably. Would I recommend it? Yes, definitely for multi-family trips (like ours) or for large families on a budget. Personally, it was too far from the action for my taste, but perfect for our arrival night.

I wish we could of driven.....but Maine doesn't work it out
