When we were there last October I took my then 18 month old to play in some of fountians at Epcot. There were lots of kids over there, most were 4-6ish, some were 9ish. Most were all but nekkid, yes, even the older girls were in just panties. They were playing in the fountains in just their underwear. Underwear isn't made quite like swim bottoms and when the underwear became soaked it also became droopy, more so little boy underwear (exposed boys). My dd was fully dressed and she looked so cute playing in the fountains and I wanted to take some pictures of her, but I didn't want nekkid kids in my pics. So what is the general feeling about kids wearing nothing but their underwear and panties in the fountains? Is there an age this becomes inappropriate? And what's the point of having your kid take off their clothes if they just have to put dry clothes over wet undies...won't the clothes get wet anyways, well, at least thie shorts?

I understand your feeling...but I don't feel the same. I say, they're kids, if they want to get naked and play, let them. I don't see a problem with it as long as they are just kids. I wish I felt so free! :rotfl:

i feel children should not wear underwear as "bathing suits" and i feel it is inapropiate for parents to allow this . I had to explain to my dd3 why Johnny had something that she didnt it was just wrong . in the privacy of your home is one thing but in publlic the same rules that are for adults should be applied for children . i am sorry if i offended anyone with my response but this is a hot topic in my family and i feel very strongly about this

I agree that social decorum should be maintained.

Underwear is underwear. A bathing suit is a bathing suit.

I understand some parents don't know about the fountains when they pass by them in the park. Let the child play in his/her clothes if they don't have a bathing suit.

We know from now on to dress our DD5 in her bathing suit under her shorts and shirt.

We went just before my granddaughter turned three years old.. Every day we packed the same thing - bathing suit and an extra set of clothes.. No "running around in her underwear" and no hassle having the extra stuff in the backpack.. :)

I just let my kids play in their clothes! In the hot June sun they dry quickly anyway. I would never let my kids be "nekkid" in public! I would be too worried about some sick-o with a cell phone (camera) taking pics of my kids and putting them on the web like that!

This thread has inspired me, when we go back to the world in May and June, I am going to frolick around in the Epcot fountains "nekkid" and free as GOD intended! Of course being a 43 year old man I will quickly be arrested, plus now that I think about it.....that's just plain creepy. :rotfl2:

Oh for heaven sake they are kids. There is nothing cuter than some innocent "nekkid" kids running around in the water. The reason the kids have at least he underwear on is a poor parent was not prepared for fountains and is doing what they can to let their little onescool off. It's the human body and if you don't want your kid to do it fine just turn around and go the other way.

We have learned our lesson and while we didn't let our kid go in the fountain we now bring bathing suits everywhere in our back pack for those "just in case moments". At what age does it become inappropriate well that's a little tougher question to answer.

A nekkid toddler is one thing. A nekkid 9 year old is another. I wouldn't be comfortable photgraphing, or even hanging around, that situation.

I'm another one who believes underwear should not be substituted as a swimsuit.

Maybe it's just me but when we travel w/ our child (3.5) we always have a change of clothes, they don't take up a lot of space and it solves issues such as this.

I agree, that way at home is ok, in public it's something different. As cute as it is seeing some toddlers frolic nekkid in the fountains. It's not the average Joe I"m worried about, like the OP stated, it's the sick-o that would have me worried. They are everywhere including WDW.

I think maybe once they reach school age? Or once they are out of diapers?

Naked babies and toddlers are a lot different IMO than naked 3rd graders.

Please, those of you who have a problem with naked young kids.. or shock horror, the ones in their underwear.. Please never come to europe and go to a beach. You will have a heart attack.

Lol! ;)

This topic has come up before. Many felt that the 'naked' third graders were European. Nudity has much less value across the ocean. Further, I can't imagine my second grader feeling free to run around in a public fountain in just her princess panties. And she's a nature baby, so I think a more typical U.S. kid would be uncomfortable with their nudity WAY before they were 8 or 9.

I found very cool swim shorts at Target last week for DD. They ranged in size from 4 to 16. They are jam length, pink, and dry super quick. So, DD will wear those to EPCOT to play in the fountain. She'll also wear them to her school's field days. See, I'm so uptight I don't like her wearing her suit all day at school! :teeth: Now, why I can't find something for DS is another story. He'll probably wear his swimming suit and then change if he's uncomfortable.

I wouldn't mind being able to run naked in the fountains but my DW won't let. LOL

I do not think parents should allow the children to play in a fountain in their underwear. I think it's in appropriate. It doesn't matter if they are children or not. They need to have their clothes on and not droop to expose or be see-thru.

Anyhow, I think it's not very sanitary to play in a public fountain no matter how clean it looks.

I almost had a heart attack in Miami - that was bad enough.

I am with sleepyone. My girls just play in their clothes. They get SOAKED, and then they DRY. No way would I ever allow joe perv to watch my precious ones, uh-uh. You they are innocent and cute, but its not cute in public. JMHO, but nowadays its just not safe or appropiate.

I wouldn't go to Europe for anything -- boycot. GB is OK and a few other countries, but for the most part...

as a matter of interest imbluegray - why? whats wrong with Europe?

How can you generalise about an entire continent!?

I often get cross, as obviously we LOVE the USA.. and people say to me, I hate America - or Americans.. and I say.. how on earth can you generalise about 200 million people!?

Sammy there is nothing wrong with Europe. Some are just uncomfortable with the different culture standards there. Like nudity is no big deal there. Growing up part of my life in Germany I learned to deal with these differences.
