Kids of lesbians have fewer behavioral problems

Because mamas don't put up with any you know what!

Interesting.

I understand the concerns of the woman who said that the study was slanted because I have done a lot of survey work for a living, and the results were determined by the agendas of the people who wrote those surveys I was paid to read as worded. However, I don't think that being raised by lesbians is bad for children. I was talking about this very thing with a friend of mine who would like to have children with another woman and who was concerned about both the affect and the effect that this would have upon her children. We have both noticed that many a girlfriend has stepped up and taken responsibility for her female partner's children long after Daddy had abandoned them, usually before the women even met each other.

The children of sperm donars and lesbians would have a huge advantage in that their mothers do not resent their children's fathers, whether that resentment would have been vocalized or veiled. I don't even think most mother-in-law bashing is nothing more than sexism since women who could not control their fertility in marriages which they needed for their economic survival would certainly swell the ranks of bitter old women.

Huh? I dislike my MIL and the feeling is very mutual. I had no problem controlling my fertility and that had and still has nothing to do with my economic survival. I married young, had a child young, had a 32 year career, am now retired and living off my husbands 6 figure salary, as he lived off my salary during my career. Bitter old women? How does my MIL figure into that? She is extremely happy with her life and our relationship has no effect on it, nor does it on mine.

Please, you owe a lot of women an apology for the most absurd, insulting, condescending statement of the day.

As to the resentment of the children's fathers, yeah, some women resent the fathers and some fathers resent the mothers., And it isn't always easy to keep your feelings to your self.

Kids are kids - They just want to be recognized and loved and protected. I don't think Gay or Straight matters. I've raised 4 kids (well, actually still in the process) and they all have different personalities, styles, needs, ways of communicating & behaving. I don't care who you are, I know awesome parents who raised one really great kid and one trouble maker. How do you explain that other than a personality is born with each one. You work with what you got.

When talking about all this resentment... keep in mind one thing about two lesbians that decide to have children: they decide to have children. I think it mentioned this in the article as well. Planning to have a child versus having a child that was an 'accident' can affect how you raise the kid. It shouldn't, but it does in some cases.

The thing about the lady that was criticizing the study is that her assumption without anything to back it up was that kids are worse off with two moms.
Quoting the last paragraph of the article, this is what she said:

"You have to be a little suspicious of any study that says children being raised by same-sex couples do better or have superior outcomes to children raised with a mother and father," she said. "It just defies common sense and reality."

Defies common sense and reality? Really?

Gay families are, on the whole, a positive influence upon a community. The children of gay couples were not accidents, which is an important point without a doubt. I really have found that heterosexuals who had their children back in the days when contraceptives were often not available and not reliable when available at all really are angry at childless couples for getting away with something that they themselves did not and take it awfully personally.

I have also noticed that gay couples are more likely to contribute heavily to the rebirth of historic neighborhoods and the refurbishment of beautiful old houses that were falling down. I like to see this happen.
