What reaction would I get from the server if my 14 year old daughter ordered from the kids menu at a Disney table service restaurant? She can be overfaced with an adults meal and I hate to send back a plate of food with so little eaten. Thanks :thumbsup2

Hi Gaynor,

We didn't have any problem with our 11yr old DD getting kids meals supposedly up to 9 yrs - but then she is very petite :)

For a 14yr old I would have thought the kids meal maybe wouldn't be enough - you can always ask for a half portion at a lot of the restaurants or she could share an adult meal - just get some extra side orders for the adult. Usually the server is quite happy to bring the dish out on 2 plates - as long as you don't deduct from their tip :rotfl: Alternatively get your DD a starter as her main dish - really depends on what she will eat.

im 16 now but on our last trip i was 13/14 and didn't eat very much, i had kids meals and no one seemed to have a problem with it. i look quite old for my age and the CM's also expected me to have a childs ticket when entering the park i guess they expect it with some people :confused3 (i would never risk it though) ;)

My dd (16 tomorrow!) always orders a kids meal. The adult meals are just too much for her to eat. I have just booked chef mickeys for dinner in July, and she will be having the kids meal.:thumbsup2

Also i found them very good with my mum who is in her 60's and she can't eat adult meals due to health problems, every where we went let us have a childs meal instead for her, we just explained and sometimes we didn't even need to do that.

Thanks for the replies.
Now I know it's not a problem my daughter will be pleased :cheer2: and I can make some more ADRs

At Bomas my DD then 11 was asked her age and we were charged for an adult's buffet even though she had the apetite of a sparrow. I don't know if they were being fussy because the age rules had only changed a month before - when we booked she was considered a child, but when we paid no such luck.

Maybe it is a "buffet" thing.

If you are eating a child's meal off of a child's menu, then you are definitely eating a child's portion - so it makes sense that you need only pay for a child's portion.

If you are eating at a buffet, what is there to stop you paying for a child's portion, but eating enough for the average adult? Obviously some 6 year olds probably eat a lot more than many 12/13 year olds - so the logic is flawed. But thet need to draw (and enforce) the line somewhere. So I would imagine that they tend to be stricter at buffets.

If that is sensible logic :)

Alice you are quite right that buffets are strict on ages due to the fact you can help yourself to whatever you want.

Claires right - its a buffet thing. I've eaten many times from a child menu at table service and counter service locations and theres no way I could pass as a child:rotfl2:

Maybe at table service restaurants they charge adult rates for all kids over 9 as the kids meals are for age 9 and under:confused3 I think they don't mind at the counter service places so much but they do have some rules at the TS places.:confused3

How comes for kids meals its nine and under, and for childrs tickets it 10plus for adult tickets not childs? think they would tie whole thing up.

so ds 9 will have to pay adult meal even though he has childs ticket????

strange ??:confused3

In Disney's eyes 9 is a child and 10 an adult so a childs meal is for 9s and under - an adult's for 10s and over.
A child ticket for 9s and under - an adult ticket for 10s and over.

I think that was the excuse/reason they gave when they started charging 10 year olds for adult meals.
