Kids Disney Boutique / Customs Clothes Part 3

I just had to share with you all a little something that happened at my brand spanking new Super Walmart.

As you may or may not remember, we got a brand new SUPER Walmart, right here in my town this month!!! WOO HOO With, a fabric department!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: (I don't think this guy should dance alone either) Anyway, they have Simplicity and New Look patterns (I know, Simplicity makes them both) but they only have New Look pattern books. So, I am in there the other day, and a customer asks the lady running the fabric department if they have pattern books so she can find the pattern she wants. The girl working there is totally confused, and opening up a New Look pattern book, says, "I just don't understand how you can make something using these books. How do you know how to make it?" She flips through the pattern book, with a very confused look on her face. The customer then very calmly says, "THIS is not the pattern, this is the book that you look at to know what pattern you want. But, you don't have a pattern book for the Simplicity patterns." The employee then, quite excitely says, "Well, we have patterns in these drawers here, and you can tell what they are, because there are numbers on them and on the drawers." (I seriously felt pretty bad for this poor girl, because she obviously had NO sewing experience whatsover.) The customer, without laughing (which I was having a hard time not doing while evesdropping) said, "You need a book so you can tell what pattern number to look for." Then, as if a lightbulb just went off in the poor employee's head said, "You mean these books aren't the patterns????? I have told people they were $....(however much those New Look patterns usually are) I am going to have to tell my manager that we need the books."

Ok, that is sad, that this poor girl was placed in a department with so little knowledge. Fast forward two weeks now.....

I was in the fabric department looking around again, still no pattern books. So, I approached the associate working there (a different lady than before) and told her that they really needed to get some of the pattern books in, so people could buy patterns. Her reply to me was, "Well, we weren't even suppose to HAVE a fabric department." to which I replied, "Yes, but you do, and you should really have some pattern books." She said, "Well, somene doesn't seem to think we do." Very strange responses, if you ask me.

Ok, is anyone still following along? YEAH if you are!!!! Thanks!

So, today I decide that I am going to call Simplicity myself and find out what is going on with the pattern books. After trying to figure out who I was and why I was calling the Simplicity rep was REALLY nice. She said that they should have books, and didn't understand why they didn't. She said that NO ONE from the store had called to tell them that they didn't have any books in. She thanked me many times for calling, and told me that she was going to contact the store to see what was going on.

Is that crazy or what??? Why couldn't someone at the store have actually done that? I am a little slow, but I bet you guys have figured out what probably happned to those pattern books, haven't you? I bet that employee sold them! :rolleyes1

Thanks for letting me get that off my chest!!!

TJ!!!! Oh my HELK! Did you talk to the manager? I can't believe what you have to go through to get a pattern! :sad2: You'd think they'd hire someone who at least knows what a pattern IS for the fabric department! Maybe thats just me :upsidedow

I just learned that we have a Hobby Lobby!!!!!! Me and Spongie are gonna tour this entity that we've been so jealous of. They have DISNEY fabric!

We're so there!

Here's one. It probably needs more sparkle. I can rework it if we want. I'm going out to get a pedicure, so I'll be gone for a bit - when I get back I'll check back and see what you guys thing. I'm certainly open to feedback.

now that I see it on the screen, I know that I need to probably change the font so that it doesn't have a drop shadow. It's a little difficult to read.

Good Evening to all of you creative people!

I couldn't even begin to respond to everything that has been posted on here!

Everyone's pictures have been very inspirational! I might have to "CAB" a couple of them!

Aimee, DD was the same way at preschool, totally didn't want to take a nap!

DD has so many clothes too! I guess after waiting SOOOO long for our little princess, we just kinda went NUTS!

It is so nice to see that many of you are adoptive parents!

After trying for so long to have a child with MANY failed fertility treatments, we just gave up! We decided to put it in God's hands.

Two weeks later we got a call about a BM that would like to meet us.

Long story short, 5 months later we welcomed the arrival of our little princess!
She came to us like a little angel from Heaven and we thank God every day for her!

She is my true inspiration to continue making her "special" outfits. She is so proud of them and tells everyone that she and her daddy made them!

I have a few days off of work, and with my princess in school, I just might be able to complete them.

Under one month until our vacation! I really need to get busy! Too bad that this "bolt" of Minnie dot won't magically turn into something overnight!
"Where oh where are those little mice when you need them!"
------>Hand 'em over Cinderella, and no one will get hurt!<-------;)

That's cool!
Would there be a little room for some "rickety rack" in there too!;)

Hi all, great work everyone. I'm starting to feel the pressure!!! I didn't quite get all the outfits done I wanted to get done, but I guess I will save all that fabric for another time! We leave for our annual labor day weekend in the Smokey Mountains Thursday after school. Sunday morning we are up with the birds driving to Chattanooga to catch our flight to Disney.

So it feels like I'm packing for two separate trips here. One suitcase for the weekend, and three for the plane. I somehow managed to get 9 outfits (and underclothes) for all three of us in one suitcase, plus my shoes, and few toys, and it weighing in at 43 lbs!!! That's 27 outifits in one suitcase!! I so rock!!! :woohoo: The airlines said it had to be under 50 lbs. The other two suitcases holds our swimsuits, pjs, DH shoes, DD shoes, stuffed animals for window decor, hairbows in glad ware containers, toiletries, etc.

Now for a gripe and sort of back on topic. I was about to finish, my DD3 pirate skirt tutu, with red and black, when I had miss calculated my red tulle, and came up about 6 inches short, so the last segment is two layers short. No biggie right? I'll just run out to Waldemort and pick up a half yard of shiny red tulle. Yea right! Sold out. I go to Hobby Lobby next, sold out! Then Hancock's, sold out! Across town to the other Waldemort, no fabric dept! Okay who in this friggin town bought all the shiny red tulle!
I should be home tomorrow, cleaning up the house and throwing all the last minute things in the suitcase. Nope, I have to drive an hour to go to Joann's to get my half yard of tulle, and sew the rest of the day! In twelve days I'll just have to come back to my trashy dirty house, all because somebody bought all the red tulle in my town! Sheesh! How dare them...

Actually in reality I'll be up all night cleaning, because I hate coming home to a messy house after a trip. Did I just trip report my pirate tutu? :lmao: Maybe this is the start of my pre-trippie!:rotfl2:

Can you make the "Bling" and the mouse head glitter or glisten in some way? that'd be cool!

Love the saying and the BLING. Great work.

OK, My DD started 1st grade last week(Yes I cried). In one week she has broken the zipper on one lunchbag and completely lost a second lunchbag. She has broken one pencil sharpener (Tinkerbell-gotta keep this Disney related;) ) and lost a pencil sharpener THAT WAS ATTACHED to her very large (hard to carry) trapper keeper (No backpacks allowed in school).

Still with me?

The school managed to lose HER! (Heart attack when you get a call from the school telling you they don't know where your child is:eek:   )

She was located, it seems the school put her on the wrong bus. (They tell me I will recover at some point :lmao: ). The office staff told me it was not their fault and the "system" did not break down  . (I was able to straighten them out on that point after my "meeting" with the principal-my DD asked if I made the principal cry:rolleyes1 )

So that is three things so I am good for the rest of the right? NOTHING else is going to happen right?:scared:

:scared1: And I thought I had a bad day when DD came home from school with heat exhaustion!
At least she made it home!
I am afraid that after my "meeting" with the principal I might make him cry too! (or at least "duck and cover";) )
Putting 21 kindergarteners in a classroom on the second floor of a brick building with 2 windows the size of a postage stamp and NO air conditioning does not seem like a wise thing!
Sending them outside 2 times for recess, and then having them come back into a HOT classroom doesn't make sense either!

-Did I mention that it was 95 degs. here today?

Of course he is quite comfortable sitting at his desk with the window a/c blasting!

O.k. my rant is over! Whew!

Bad things come in three, so you should be good for the rest of the night, or for the rest of the school year, for that matter!

Me again! Tereajoy and I are planning to make matching shirts for ourselves and SIL using this pattern and this fabric. We'll make my mom something out of the fabric, too.
Ohhhh very pretty pattern...it will be great with the flowy bottom! Can't wait to see it finished! I love that you will all match! :thumbsup2

  So glad they "found" her. I mean mistakes are made but to imply they are not at fault is crazy. Gee I hope the rest of your evening is nice and calm!

One time I came home from work and my DD was on the front porch. The bus had dropped her off with no one at the bus stop. I forgot it was a half day of school and she was alone for a 1/2 hour :scared: (this was at the end of first grade) I was furious and called the school and made a big stink! (They are supposed to take the kids back to school if the parents aren't at the bus stop) :sad2: Fortunately everything was ok and our neighborhood is safe. But still, I had a heart attack seeing her sitting there waiting for me.:sad2:

The Brother Disney Embroidery machine was "on sale" at my Wally world for $397. Add 6% TAX - 424 ---I bought mine 3 days ago on Amazon.com for $343 I think, or there about, no tax and free shipping - was supposed to come 7-10 days, but it was there in 2 days. I thought I made out ok.

I have a suggestion for your grandson for WDW. I was at Hobby Lobby today (looking for the leopard Santa print and the were sold out ) and they had a camouflage fabric (greens) with Mickey on it. Very cute for a little boy or you could girl it up for a matching one for your GD and add some pink.

Don't have a Hobby Lobby in PA. Anyone want to get some of that camoflage Mickey fabric for me? I will gladly pay you for it plus shipping.

At our Super Wally World, we have issues too. Yesterday this other customer and I couldn't find a clerk in the fabric department for 15 min. There was a sign "ring bell for service" no bell....but there was a phone. Finally I picked up the phone and dialed the number for the manager and told him I needed help in the fabric department....he said, "Did you page a CSM?" I said, no, I am a customer and I need a CSM...dead silence...."Ok, I will get you someone." Well, a mentally challenged person came back, and that was ok with me, but I wanted 3 yards of fabric. Poor thing, she kept measuring and remeasuring....10 minutes later she started to hack up this fabric like she had a machete.....and it was 4 and 1/2 yards....oh, my....but she was sweet, just didn't know how to cut fabric or use that computerized machine they have.

I am trying to figure out what to make with my Halloween fabrics.

Castle Creations I believe this is your adorable daughter. Did you use a pattern for this one? I am thinking it is what I would like to make with my halloween collection.

Thanks.

I can't sew or do anything you all talk about but I do admire the beautiful clothing you all create. Just wanted to say you all are so talented. Sometimes you need a pat on the back for no reason. So pat away you all so deserve it.

FANTASTIC! I really like that cute dress- your daughter looks as though see does as well!
Where did you find that Mickey fabric on your sons pants? Is it flannel?? SO CUTE... I mean MANLY!
He can't be manly yet! He's only 14 months old, after all!
Yup, it's flannel. I got it at JoAnn. Unfortunately, they only had 1.3 yards of it and I messed up the shirt. I'll have to look around for some more. Actually, I'd like to make DH some pants to match his if I find some more.

I almost bought that same fabric! I sat there for 10 minutes deciding between that and the Tink. You should make her a matching pillow with it. Thanks for posting the pictures: I am hoping the short sleeve short nightgown will be long enough, otherwise it's back to the store for me!
Oh, and I am laughing so hard at the upside down Mickeys! Um, laughing with you not at you of course! :rotfl:
I am so disappointed not to see you guys go braless in this fabric! Think of all the attention you would get from characters then!
I had 2.5 yards and had about 3/4 yard left after making this. I might have to make her the matching pillow- that'd be cute! I almost bought the Tink fabric! But, I let Tessa choose and nothing could win out over princesses AND horses!!
:snooty: I honestly have no idea what you could be laughing about.
:woohoo: I've nursed 2 kids and Teresa's nursed 3. I wonder what kind of attention we'd get!:lmao:

I'm all teary-eyed reading about how you became Leigh's parents. Thank for sharing that with us!

Okay who in this friggin town bought all the shiny red tulle!
I don't know what town you're in, but I'd venture a guess that tnmom25 is in TN.....

The school managed to lose HER! (Heart attack when you get a call from the school telling you they don't know where your child is:eek:   )
 WHAT!!!! How scary!!!! I was a nanny before I had kids and the little boy I took care of was lost twice. He was in kintergarden and went to a private school, but took the public school bus. The first time, they dropped him off at the wrong school! The 2nd time, he fell asleep on the bus and they found him at the end of the route. Let me tell yah, those were some scary phone calls! I loved that kid dearly!

See if this works- my first project ever :cool1: and I'm addicted! Thanks for the other posters of this outfit- it's cased!

She looked cute and loved the attention and getting to tell all that her mom made the dress and the bows! It was only open house, but now that that one's under my belt, I can start on other things.

All the lastest creations are wonderful- I LOVE the turkey!

THIS is Totally PRECIOUS! Great job!

I have decided to totally give up on getting caught up on this thread. I missed a couple of weeks and have been trying to read a page here and there when I get a chance. The problem is that the thread is growing 10x's faster than I am reading it. I have probably missed tons of stuff, but I won't ever get sewing on my own projects at this rate!

This is my 2nd full week of having no kiddos home during the day. Last week was so packed and this week we all seem to be passing a cold around. Today was my turn to blow my nose all day. I am hoping to wake up tomorrow and feel like a million bucks! I need to get my laundry put away and then I plan on spending the day sewing all by myself!!!!!!!!!

If one more person calls me to ask what I am going to do with all of my spare time now that my youngest is in Kind. I might just tell them that I plan on picking my nose all day. I have answered that question a million times. I serisously think that some of them are just politely reminding me not to be a lazy slob. I have a lot of $$$$ worth of fabric to get through so I will be pretty busy sewing for a while!
