My DS will be 7 when we board the Fantasy in April for the first time. He's not a huge fan of the clubs on the other DCL ships at all. On our last cruise on the Magic in October, I was surprised that he actually asked to spend time there. He'd go for an hour or so, but was happy to move on to something else when I came by to check on him. He really enjoyed watching the old Disney cartoon shorts that played in the Mickey's Clubhouse section of the club. Are these cartoons available in the club on the Fantasy? I don't love the idea that he goes and watches TV, but I have a Palo brunch booked and would really like to go. We watched a video on YouTube of the club on the Fantasy and he hated everything about it. If the cartoons are there, I know I can drop him off for an hour and half and he won't be entirely miserable. I'm more than happy for him to be with me for the rest of the trip, but for that 90 minutes, I'd like some adults only time. Thanks.

Ahhh, 7yo... The start of the age where you "hate" everything... ;)

Every kid is different. We usually found that our kids saw videos or watched others and said they would "hate it", no matter what "it" was. Then, when they got into those places or we took them somewhere, they quickly found out they liked it and had a blast...

My DSs are now 12 and 16 and still like going to the Oceaneer's Club/Lab. There are so many things going on, it's hard to NOT find at least SOMETHING that will entertain them... ;)

Good luck with whatever you decide to try!!!

I feel like a seven year old is old enough to be bribed. Tell him he needs to give it a shot and promise him a gift from one of the shops if he stays to let you finish your brunch. Pick the toy out ahead of time and get him psyched up about it. Also, if you are eating with others, Disney usually does a good job of matching up families. Maybe he'll make a friend at dinners and you can arrange to have his friend in the club at that time as well.

I cannot remember ever seeing the old cartoons being played in the Club. I know they play the old stuff on the TVs in the terminal, but in the Club, they seem to lean more toward the animated features (Lion King, Frozen, Aladdin, etc.) and sometimes the new Mickey cartoons (which are hilarious).

That having said, I am not in the Club for more than 10 minutes each day to pick up and drop off, so maybe they do play the old stuff and I just missed it.

My son is 5 and already assumes he will hate everything before experiencing it. As a mom, my takeaway from your post is that my child must be very advanced. :P

I feel a 7 year old is old enough to be told you are being taken on this wonderful vacation and Mom and Dad need a few hours to go to brunch and you will go to the kids club.

My 7 year old keeps talking about how she is going to hang out in the Kids Club all day. :) We will see.

Yup. This is going to be our strategy. With the 4 year old too, so the older one will also get a dose of "and make sure your sister doesn't get left all alone and whine for us".
They're on a fabulous amazing vacation, they get to do awesome stuff, they are highly privileged, they will not be allowed to complain about going to the Club when we are at Palo, whether or not they want to
(the rest of the cruise they can choose)
If they hate it for some reason - which they won't - I'll just let them get extra ice cream from the soft serve later that day.
