Can anyone help? DD (9) wants to carry a small backpack through the park. So she can carry her tour book, autograph book and water bottle by herself. We think she will get tired of this on the first day, but you never know. Anyway, every trip we go one we seem to require a new backpack and that bag is hardly ever used the rest of the year. This time her dad has requested that the backpack be of the hiking type, so that they can go hiking upon our return. He use hike everyday and wants DD to come to love it as much as he does. Anyway, does anyone know a kids hiking backpack that would also be suitable for her to carry in WDS with the above mentioned items in it?

Thanks so much for the help?

My DDs are 9and 5 and use small children's fannypacks. I think it would be hot and uncomfortable for a child to carry a backpack. Some of the fanny packs have loops to carry waterbottles. I'd go w/ that.

On a recent Disney Cruise, my 8 and 9 y/o carried their own “day packs”. They had a shoulder strap and are roughly 6x9” with a couple of zippered areas, a few pouches, and a mesh water bottle holder. PERFECT! They weren’t to heavy, as long as we “field-stripped” them ourselves before we went out for the day!

I got them at Kohl's. The brand name is Ricardo. Kohl's usually runs the luggage "sale" every week or so.

Can I ask, having not been before - just booked our first trip for July  what do you do with backpacks when on rides - do you have to leave behind or can you take with you - not just the childrens but mine also that will have camera etc in.

Thanks

We always carry them on. I just stick my leg through one of the arm holes and make sure the bag is completely zipped. I havce also learned to do this whenever I set the bag down. Just in case.

I have been thinking about letting my dd carry her light weight string backpakc (canvas bag with string straps that pull like a drawstring closing the top) but who's gonna hold it on the ride. I'm sure she would but would she still be holding it when we got off? lol. Hiking style backpack might be too big to take on the rides??
