Just asked yesterday while at the principals office for DS13 - Its not official but the school secretary is kinda letting me know there's a good chance the kids will be going back to school just a few days after we return from our 2wks at WDW
Soooo - what can I do to get him ready for school before we leave? shop for school supplies, clothes, etc. Obviously he'll be starting school tired after being at WDW - hoping he can catch up on that sleep the few days he will have before returning

What have you done to get your kids ready for school before your summer WDW vacation?

That happened to us last year!! We got home on Sunday and dd started school on Wed! I did all her school shopping before we left. I did get some cute Disney themed pencils/pens/notebooks while in WDW. But, for the most part everything was ready to go by the time we got home.

This has happend to us for the past two years. Since we get her school supplies list on the last day of school. I go out to Walmart sometime in July and try to pick up everything on her list. DD goes to a private christian school so the only thing I have to pick up is her Bible (that her grade will be using that year). As well as her school uniforms.

Once we have completed our vacation the first two weeks in August. DH and I always plan to return from our trip in the middle of the week so that we can finish up any school shopping (such as school shoes) that Saturday. School usually starts that following Monday so DD is all set for school Monday morning.

When in elementary school, my fam would miss a whole week of school for our Disney trips (usually in Sept or Oct). I remember coming home from Disney and going to gymnastics class that same day. School was usually the next day or the day after and I don't remember being overly tired. If anything, I was so happy to return to school to tell my friends about my trip. (We would do our homework on the plane to Florida).

And before anyone says so, taking your kids out of school for a trip isn't all that awful. I did it almost every year from age 5-14 and here I am a senior in college, on the Dean's List, Golden Key Honor Society and have a job lined up after graduation. Maybe no school for Disney = successful children. Haha... :rotfl:

Just do everything you would normally do but before you leave for your vacation. Unless you plan to drastically change your child's routine, they should be fine. In fact I find that I am more tired after then my kids.

On this I have to say that it really depends on the kid. I have taken my kids out for Disney trips. The last time my kids were in 4th and 6th grade. And while they are both "gifted" they also had a tough time catching up after missing 11 school days.
