This morning I was cleaning up/clearing out my children's craft area when I had an idea....
We have so many pencils, markers ect that we don't use but are still useable from party bags ect. I thought we could make little parcels including these are some paper and pencil sharpener to give to local kids at our ports. I've never been to the Caribbean before so I don't know if we would find children who would appreciate and need these things? I have been to other places and wished I had things like this to offer having seen many very poor families.
What are your thoughts on this?

First how thoughtful and kind of you. That is a such a nice idea. Although it would be wonderful to just hand out goodie bags, it may be difficult.
I would actually find a local church or school (if open) in the port you are visiting and donate there for the children.
I only say this because you may be approached by many children that all want one and you don't have enough. Or you don't see any local children, or adults approach you for one without an actual child present, but to take for their children (might sound weird but can happen). I would feel uncomfortable with the latter.
I think safety first, and would seek out a church, besides they often have children's programs and day care type use.
Again such a great idea:thumbsup2 You rock!

Yes your thoughts and concerns are in line with my own. This plan may need a re-think. I'll look into churches ect.
Does anyone have a contact with a church /orphanage/group that would like donations?

If you dock at GC there is a church right near port, just google churched in the ports you will visit, usually a couple.
