Hi - this is our first cruise we go on the Dream on 8 April. we have 2 girls age 10 and 14 and would love for them to immerse themselves in the cruise for some of the time and perhaps venture into the clubs but they are both a bit 'awkward' and 'shy' about meeting new friends (think its an age thing) and therefore I was just wondering how persuasive the staff are at encouraging them to join in? I know if they were invited to do something they would join in as the only other option is if we push them in the door and run away hahaha! (joke)

Just wondered how other teens and preteens had enjoyed the clubs and facilities on offer to them

My sons (15 &10) are not crazy about the clubs. But they have each other, they are given the rules and we allow them to be on their own a lot on the ship. Our last cruise was in December. My DS (15) did go to Vibe our first night and the cast members did try to get him engaged with the other teenagers. He was happy to just sit back and observe. The cast members did talk to him about were he was from and what sports he played. He feels it is important to go to Vibe the very first night of the cruise to get to know the staff and other kids. My 10 year old was allowed in Edge or Oceaneers Lab. We allowed him to check himself in and out. He went for a couple of specific events like Super Sloppy Science or the cooking. He is a very laid back kid that follows the rules and cannot handle too much chaos. He felt the kids get way to out of control (for him) and the staff doesn't have much control. This makes him uncomfortable so he would text us and check himself out. Please keep in mind that these are his observations (a 10 year old)...... I was never there to observe for myself.

With all that being said, I have read on these boards that kids of every age really enjoy the clubs. I guess my boys just prefer each other.

Enjoy your cruise!

It can be really important for them to attend the first night, as that's when a lot of friendship connections are made -- particularly at the Edge and Vibe for tween and teens. You could also join your cruise meet and see if there are other kids same/similar age so your girls could be "pen pals" for a bit prior to the cruise and feel like they already have a friend as soon as they board.

Enjoy your cruise!

I'm sailing on the Magic leaving April 10. My girls are going to be 10 and 15. We have a nice group if you'd like more information you can pm me.

The April 10 group is great and seems to have a lot of 10 year old girls on it (mine is one), definitely message and get the information about our group

Hi thanks for this - we actually travel on 8 april - have joined that group but not many kids that age yet in that group. Shame as the penpal thing is a good idea. We will take them along for the first night at clubs and see how it goes. Just realised I put the Magic and its the Dream! sorry for the confusion
