19 years! :cool1: I'm proud of my clever and funny anniversary FB status. Gabby thinks I'm a freak as M doesn't have FB and can't see it so I screen shotted it for him. I'm proud to have stayed happily married this long. It's not a small accomplishment. ;)

Did you decide on TiW or DDP? Can it get to you in time from Amazon? :hyper: You're making me nervous.

Your status is so sweet! Congrats on 19 years!

TiW. I really hate the DDP. I know some people love it and it probably works for them. But I don't like how it limits you and you're married to your meals. I like to eat when I'm hungry, not to use credits.

I'll get my Amazon order by Thursday. Thank goodness for Amazon Prime and free 2 day delivery!

:goodvibes Thank you!

I hate the DDP. Married to your meals. :lmao: Here's my theory in a nutshell. I cannot take full credit because I read part of it from another person on the boards. Here goes:

In 2007 when the DDP included the app and tip, it really was a good deal. They also offered a full array of great items when using snack credits. But it was a ton of food. After cashing in some CS we ended up with over 30 snack credits that we used for souvenirs. It took us a day to realize it was just a crazy amount of food. Five apps, five entrees, five desserts, and five drinks per TS? By the second day we'd order maybe 2 desserts and share and forgo ordering desserts 3-5. Same with appetizers. It was overwhelming. Even with two of them on the kids' menu.

In 2009, both the appetizer and tip were gone. Less food, more money, still an okay deal as we had kids and not all adults. Plus we'd just pay OOP for an appetizer and still skip 3/5 desserts and share. We did a split stay this trip and had it for only 5/10 days which was much more manageable as you have all of your credits until midnight on check out day. We also, feel free to freak in private, *bought* total strangers breakfast with our remaining credits on check out day. :p The CM was fine with it. I explained we had CS left and didn't want to throw them out. She could care less what we did with them so we shared.

Now, it's gone up considerably in price as have the cost of the bufftes (the cheapest way to feed folks). Coincidence? I think not. :rotfl: No really, Disney ups the price of their buffets which guides DDPers into using their credits there so they get the most bang for their buck. Plus, desserts are cheap and a lot come in bulk, much more so than appetizers. It's just limiting. Rooms are rack rate. Now I totally get that for some, the DDP works and I think if it fits then awesome but for us, it's a joke. I did the math a hundred or so pages back, I'll try to find it, and even with the cost of the TiW card we'd save a lot of $$ by eating what we want, something like $1,000 in savings. And we aren't cheap. If the kids will eat it, we'll buy it. And we drink. Now that does include Joshua and I sharing some because that's what we normally do. For instance when we go to a teppan style place, he and I will share a sushi roll and an adult entree.

And 5 desserts at dinner? Don't even get me started. That's just silly for us. It's not a *perk*. And the CS meals also come with a dessert per credit. Vacation or not, 2 desserts per person per day did not work for my family. Stuffing myself to get the most value is not a value to me. Wasting food even though it was *free* made me feel horrible.

What did your order from Amazon?

Thanks Bret. It's a good but typical family-of-five day. DH took the kids school clothes shopping thankfully because I hate to shop. Unless it's online. Hate hate hate going to any sort of mall to just look and shop. :crazy2: Now all 3 kids have activities tonight but we are getting my favorite Mexican food to go. Living big baby. Oh and I got new luggage for WDW. Maybe I should post a pic. :yay:

I checked in to your PTR. :thumbsup2

A nice way to have your anniversary with your whole family. Good thing that your DH took the kids to go shop for school clothes. Nice to hear that you are going to have Mexican food. Nice to hear that you got new luggage for your WDW. I would like to see your new luggage for your upcoming trip.

I agree with you about the DDP. And I think it's great you used the credits to get someone else breakfast. So much better than wasting them! We would have 5 desserts also and that is just too much. TiW is a better value and allows for sharing. I usually share with my mom when we go out. We'll order an app and an entree to share. I don't mind spending money on what I want when I want it, but prepaying with the DDP seems like a loss to me.

Also, I can't deal with figuring out snack credits.

I ordered new headphones and screen protectors for our iPhones.

I need to pack. :lmao:

We also watched the Olympics. :thumbsup2 Have you been watching them? I will post a luggage pic tonight. :yay:

Yes, you need to pack. I need you to pack. :rotfl2:

I think during F&W the snack credit options are obviously better but with all that noshing, who would need the DDP? :confused3 To each his own. :goodvibes But I think it's a rip off. :rotfl:

Does Amazon Prime provide free fast shipping? I always see the option for Prime but haven't ever checked it out.

Our masks and Incredibles shirts arrived as did Joshua's Monster's Inc hat and iron on. :thumbsup2 Chloe's Alice dress arrived too. All we've got left to do for our costumes is buy Chloe's black hair ribbon, have my mother in law cut and sew her dress sleeves to make it sleevleless, buy Joshua a plain white tee, and buy black shorts for our Incredible bottoms. Michael will never wear black shorts again so I'm going to the thrift store for his. I'm sure Gab will want black booty shorts. Such a teenager!

I agree with all the DDP sentiments. For the two of us we usually order two appetizers, one entree and a dessert. The other night we went out to place that only served appetizers, we got four and were stuffed, had to take a doggie bag. The amount of food they have on the DDP is ridiculous!

Can't wait to see your luggage!

You're a smart mom! The 4 yr old is fussy about the texture of foods. He won't eat pizza, but he'll eat salmon and mahi mahi. His preference is chicken, chicken, and chicken. I'm hoping he grows out of it. Luckily, my niece, who loves to put her 6 teeth to good use, will try anything. I hope that sticks.

Have you tried Sanaa?

Chicken, salmon and Mahi? That's a great eater over pizza, I'd hope he sticks with it.

:goodvibes Thank you!

I really think it varies by family as to whether it makes sense or not. Honestly we like it, still. For us it's about prepaying for our food and then not having to say "no" to the kids about what entree to have and not adding as we go to have a snack. It really eliminates a lot of budgeting stress during a trip and lets the kids feel spoiled rotten. It isn't cheap, though now that they include the mug it helps a little. While we might not have bought one for everyone, they were darn nice to have. Like the rest of the world, we'd prefer it was app/salad OR dessert but the kids do like getting dessert as we would never buy it OOP and they have come to look forward to it, they definitely consider it a "perk".

Quick math on this last trip I figure we saved about 14% by doing the DDP TIW for the amount of time we were buying meals didn't make sense so this was a better way to go. Then again I have relatively good/big eaters and we really didn't leave a lot of food on the table. Literally. I do find that in general the 2 meals (CS and TS per day) lets us largely eliminate a third meal entirely, or use the snack credit for a breakfast pastry.

Of course, given the extra food we wouldn't have bought, and the fact we'd likely have made the kids order cheaper items or gone somewhere cheaper one could argue we didn't save a penny and perhaps even spent more as a result. Which might be true. But the ease of it, the pleasure it gives the kids, the not thinking about the cost of the meals was..priceless.

Of course we do maximize (or try to) the value of where we eat by picking certain places to use up those credits!

I think you and I have similar eating habits. Your pics of appetizers the other night were fabulous. Looked amazing!

I'll post it tonight. It's not an exciting name brand but that's okay. I don't need Dooney or Burke or carry my underwear. :lmao: But if I could afford and luggage and they made it, I'd be all over it. I want a little D&B Disney bag so bad.

:thumbsup2 Exactly, it totally works for some families. Maybe when the kids are older but for now, with us sharing still and dessert not being as big of a hit as appetizers, it makes little sense. Now with F&W, the quality of snack options increase dramatically!

And vacation eating is a treat so go with what feels right! :cool1:

How was your vacation? I loved your daily FB pics!! :thumbsup2 I love OKW!! It's so beautiful.

I would love a Dooney and Burke but I just cannot justify the cost.

I can hardly wait to see your new luggage. New luggage for a fun trip is always wonderful!

It smells so good. Joshua can fit in it! :rotfl2:

How did the interview go??? Any word?

One day I'll get one. I want the one the size up from the wristlet. D&B has always been one of my favorites. Coach too. I've only had one of each. Having three kids seem to deplete all funding for such things. ;)

Oh wow!! Sounds huge!

No word, I am hoping they call her for a second interview.

They do suck up that money don't they? That an life's other little stresses and such.

I want a little D&B Disney bag so bad.

I was REALLY tempted by a wristlet on the cruise and another different patterned one at DTD. Held off, the DTD one will be there in Oct if I feel so inspired. Definitely a fun to have but not a need.

How was your vacation? I loved your daily FB pics!! :thumbsup2 I love OKW!! It's so beautiful.

I think it worked especially well for us given when it fell in the trip. We did it for the last 2 nights and it just made life easy, especially after being waited on hand and foot on the cruise. On the flip side, I enjoyed cooking at the villa, both at OKW and Vero on the first part of the trip and limiting our dining out. We definitely ate a LOT more then 2nd half and boy was I feeling it yesterday. :lmao: negated some of the almost 20 pounds I lost prior to the trip! It's funny though, I tried SO hard to get my family to share at Flame Tree for lunch, knowing how large the portions would be and no one wanted anything to do with it. We could have saved 2 credits for breakfasts or lunches on the last day and that kind of annoyed me.

And 3 of us couldn't finish the portions. Still though, it did make ordering $10 lunch items FAR more palatable!

We had an amazing vacation. I may get the TR started this weekend but have a bazillion pictures to sort through and upload and some prints from the cruise to scan although I don't need those right away. I'm debating where to put it as it's not really an "anything" kind of trip. 4 nights WDW but only one park day, 3 nights Vero and 4 nights cruise. Tempted to do it in the WDW section as the others just don't get the same kind of traffic but unless you consider DTD a park...we only had one park day. :lmao:

Still it's kind of fun to see (and experience) how a resort only trip really plays out. I LOVED it! More so than I even thought I would.

You guys ended up at Kidani right? I can definitely give you my take on the pro's and cons of each with a family of 5 although if memory serves...you have a 2 bedroom and we went with a 1.

Happy 19 years!!!

I swear I'm NOT going to overpack this time. :lmao: I solemnly swear. Really. :rotfl2: I say this each and every time but this time I'm really going to be better. We have a washer/dryer. I will do laundry every day (I always do when we have a washer/dryer).
We also hate Disney Dining Plan. We almost never order dessert. We love getting salads. We sometimes eat appetizers as entrees. I usually either go grocery shopping or have Garden Grocer deliver so we bring snacks and drinks to the parks. I like to buy GC to pay for some of the meals and souvenirs. And I have a TIW card which I LOVE!

I got waxed and stopped in Niketown to get a couple of gifts, so no packing yet. :rotfl: I really need to get on that.

Amazon Prime provides free 2 day shipping for $79/year. It is so worth it. I've been getting everything super fast.

I love the gymnastics, swimming, and track. Especially women's track. They are unbelievable athletes to me. I'm in awe of them!

I spaced my luggage pic.

Little cash vacuums as I like to call them. :rotfl:

Keep us posted on if she gets called. I'm crossing my fingers for her.

They are so adorable! I'm not a huge accessories person but that I would make great use of! :thumbsup2 I wonder if they ever go on sale?

You lost 20 lb before your trip? Brava! :woohoo: It's so much harder as we age, don't you think? How was Vero? And the cruise? Can't wait to read all about it.

Flame Tree does have huge portions and some of the best BBQ chicken around. :thumbsup2 We always share there. Three meals fed the 5 of us last time and we still threw some out. Of course that was three years ago. Gabby appetite has increased SO much. Chloe and Joshua still eat like birds.

I'd put it in the WDW section or DVC section even though it was mostly cruise right? I always forget about the cruise section here. Link me here when you decide. It sounds amazing and relaxing with only one park day! I'd love to do that sometime. For now I've put my DCL dream to rest. DH is traveling so much with this Africa thing that it's nearly impossible to plan anything.

Still it's kind of fun to see (and experience) how a resort only trip really plays out. I LOVED it! More so than I even thought I would.

We are at AoA for one night, THV for five, and then Kidani for five. We have a 2 bedroom at Kidani. There are 6 of us. At this point, I'll take only the pros please as I can't change. :lmao: Any insight with where we should request for the best animal viewing? We won't have a car either which seems to be a big deciding factor for those staying at Kidani.

:goodvibes Thank you Amanda!

We speak the same mantra because I tell myself the same exact thing every time! :rotfl2: And guess what? I overpack. I do laundry daily too. I know people say why would I do laundry on vacation, I want to relax. To that I say: looking at piles of dirty clothes is far less relaxing than throwing a load in the washer. :thumbsup2

Same here. The DDP just doesn't work for us. We are big salad people too and sharers which the DDP doesn't support. I can't wait to get the TiW card. It's $100 for DVC members. To make up the $100 we'd have to spend $500 on food and drink which is a no brainer for the six of us considering Boma alone will cost $240........which honestly makes me a little sick to my stomach. :bitelip:

Our costumes are pretty mellow but they'll be cute enough; functional and comfortable. I thought about getting decked out but I know my crew and they'll be griping after a half hour in full gear.

I'm going to have to look into in. I always see it next to my check out button but always bypass it. I love Amazon!

Did you get all gussied up today? Ha ha get it ;)

Another thing nice about the Amazon Prime is free movie rental on several movies. I love Amazon Prime.

Amazon rents movies? I have so much to learn! :teacher:

I only have one Dooney bag, it's the DLR 55th. I use it when staying at Disney, that's it. Our luggage is Kirkland!

I think we do have similar eating habits, I got that on your DL TR. I ate at Polllo Loco for you today, but actually the cats got the bulk of it! :rotfl2:

I don't think you've seen my latest TR. I posted a link on my PTR last night. It's a D23 thing this weekend.

I am so jealous! Even of the cats. :rotfl: Now I'm going to have to trek 90 minutes south for some.

Do you have a pic of your bag anywhere? One of these days I'll splurge and buy myself one. Kirkland is Costco right? Mine are similar. He got them at Ross. :thumbsup2

I haven't seen it yet. I'll go look in the DL section. I have a feeling I'm going to be uber envious again! ;) :goodvibes Seriously, the Disney events you get to experience are amazing!

So a mini trip update......DH might have to change his flight and meet up with us on the 18th and miss some days of the trip due to work constraints. If he flew early enough, he'd still be able to make some of MNSSHP though.

Obviously this is not optimum and not something we'd choose but life is life. He'd miss all but one night at SSR and he's the main reason we're staying there. With only 5 of us, I could ditch the THV, and go for a 1 bedroom but I think the kids would kill me. Someone, anyone, tell me to just stick with the plan.....it's a good plan. A well thought out plan. I must stick with it!

I wasn't planning on wrangling 4 kids on my own. I might need to attend a Mixology event or two. :rotfl2:
