Jenny, we're doing Maui & Oahu sometime in 2013.

You are? When in 2013? We're thinking August. Michael says it will rain daily but we don't care. A little rain never hurt anyone. We'd love to go in September when summer travel is over but then child care is more difficult to negotiate. I've been researching a little......:surfweb:

He lived in Hawaii for a summer so he's pretty familiar with it. Of course that was many many moons ago.

Not sure yet. My brother and SIL own the Harborside timeshare on Paradise Island (Atlantis), which is a Sheraton timeshare. He can trade into a couple of resorts in Maui and one on Kauai. We love the Maui resort and can't fly 14 hours NOT go to Aulani, so we're thinking a couple of nights there.

That's fabulous! Michael doesn't want to stay at Aulani actually. He'd rather stay on Maui. Seems silly to rent a place but he might be right. Wonder where to start that process?

Have you been to Hawaii?

I've heard nothing but great things about Maui. A few friends mentioned that Maui is much nicer than Oahu.

This will be my first trip to Hawaii. I need to start researching. Have you been?

Michael said Maui is amazing. Prettiest sunsets he's ever seen and he's traveled quite a bit. I haven't been and really didnt have an interest until a few years ago. Now I'm salivating at the thought. :lovestruc

We realized today that Joshua's bar mitzvah will most likely be October 2013 which makes it 3 in a row and me officially insane. I'm going to need a nice Hawaiian vacation before crunch time and the High Holidays.

Maui is fabulous!!! I also loved the Big Island. I think my eldest would LOVE Volcanos National Park. While I want to see Aulani, Oahu doesn't interest me as much as some of the other islands.

I'm so unfamiliar with Hawaii but am going to google Volcano National Park. And Waikiki and the ton of others places I shouldn't be thinking about until the next 18 days are over. :rotfl:

How was your run? How's your doggie doing?

I'd wear 15 extra lb to attend those dinners of yours. :lmao: Seriously. Wow, that's a big wine cellar! Is it in your home?

Don't mean to Hijack your thread, but this is my cellar which is to the right of my TV which I see when I'm in the living room on the DIS.

This is the inside. It's two layers deep, so all the slots fit two bottles. One in the back and one in the front.

Those are the ones that I have an Access database to keep track of. Once I take them out of the tracked database (red wines) I put them here. I don't catalog my white wines when they come from the wineries, those just eventually get drank.

I dated a geologist in College and we took a trip to the Big Island. Volcano National Park was the HIGHLIGHT of our trip. We hiked all across the Caldera from Volcano house to the crater and back. It was AWESOME!

I would like to visit Aulani and maybe a couple of the sights, but mostly Aulani. I've read some great TRs so I think hanging out at the resort would be fun. The spa, the pool, snorkeling, the beach, cooking in the room.

Tom and I spent 2 weeks in Hawaii for our honeymoon. We went to Kauai first (which we found a little disappointing but I think we stayed in the wrong place), then Hawaii (Big Island), and finally Maui. We really loved both Hawaii and Maui for different reasons. We stayed in a great location on Hawaii. Our hotel had a decent beach - which is more hard to find on Hawaii - and great amenities but was also only a 10-15 minute drive to Kona. In Kona there were fun restaurants and bars. The trip to Volcano National Park was a full-day experience and in retrospect it might have been a better idea to spend one night on that part of the island. Maui was more hopping with lots of stuff to do. We did the drive to Hana which was awesome. There were tons of restaurants and shops. The beaches were awesome. Just a fun place.

Buffy is doing ok. Better than the other weekend but still not great. :( I had a great run on Saturday and an ok run on Monday. :thumbsup2

Wow wow wow! That's amazing. How long have you been collecting wine?

Whats the best time of year for Hawaii?

I think Aulani would be amazing as a destination in and of itself too but Michael is not going for it. At all. he said we could do a few nights and then spend a few nights on Maui. I need to look into renting a timeshare. He also said we'd need 10 days to do everything he wants to do. The longer the better. :lovestruc

:thumbsup2 What a fabulous honeymoon. A nice beach is hard to find? I wouldn't think that. Crazy! I've read a trip report where they took a jeep to Hana. Michael says we'd have to rent a vehicle of some sort, that there's just so much to see and do.

:goodvibes I'm glad she's feeling better. These are the times I wish they could talk and tell us what's wrong.

Good for you for running! I made my DS ride with me yesterday, only 5 miles but it's something. I'm still at work :ssst: and have a meeting at 4:00. Won't be home until about 7:00 so any exercise will have to come much later.

We had a rough parenting day- had to be fairly hardnosed, which we hate, so what I'd prefer to do is hug my child and pour a glass of wine. Parenting = hardest job ever! I should sneak in some exercise after the hug and before the wine.

:sulley: 157 days!!! :sulley:

The Big Island is pretty rocky due to, well, the volcanoes. So there aren't as many beaches as some of the other islands. Assuming I'm remembering correctly from 2000..... :lmao:
I'm having a hard parenting week so I understand. My eldest was diagnosed with a chronic illness in the fall and was allowed to get away with everything - both at school and home. Now his behavior has gotten a bit out of control so we've had to crack down. NOT fun!

I started collecting in the summer of 1995 after my exhusband and I broke up. There is no way he would have ever split a bottle of wine with me. When you're in SoCal next we should have dinner at a nice restaurant and I'll bring the wine.

I've been to Hawaii in Jan, April &July and they were all great!

Aulani will be a destination for us. I want to go there last to relax!

You're on! That would be really fun. It's a beautiful collection. I'm hoping to get out there this summer but with Michael's traveling, it's so hard to plan anything. Plus when we go there's no way we could stay away from Disney which of course leads to the following..........

I'm kicking myself for not getting Disneyland APs. Dumb dumb dumb. We would have gone over Spring Break and then again this summer. I told Michael tonight that I'm never going to skip getting APs thinking we won't visit twice in a year.

I can't imagine a bad time in Hawaii right? What's your favorite island? I'm obsessing on Hawaii. I'm dying to try Aulani. Did you buy DVC direct or resale? We're seriously thinking about adding on. I've been searching for the right GCV contract but am having little luck. I know there's a waiting list to buy direct which is insane to me.

I'm sorry. I won't be nosy and ask but am here if you need to vent. My DD has two dx that both require medication. Neither dx leads to behavioral issues however taking two shots and two pills a day would make anyone cranky. Add being a teenager and voila, you've got a winning combo. She's actually a really great kid, the most laid back, and takes it all pretty much in stride. It's my oldest who we've had to crack down on. And I agree, its so not fun. Gab is old enough to conceptualize that we don't enjoy having to tighten the rules and boundaries but we'll do whats necessary to help her become a responsible adult. Most of the time she's pretty terrific. She's stressed over a boy but needs to learn to compartmentalize a little. Wonder where she got that lack of ability? :rolleyes1 It's also the end of the school year so she's been blowing off her work. No bueno! If she's a C student because that's her ability I'm okay with that. If she's getting Cs because she's being lazy, that's another ball game.

Oh and I forgot to mention that our flight home is now $488! We got them for $125. :faint: That's a savings of $363 per person. I'm not sure there is a happy enough smiley to post. :yay:

 Hi stranger! How are you? Still planning your trip for this Fall? Haven't seen you here in ages.

I called WDW tonight looking for a PIN in either mine or Michael's and had no luck. Oh well our AAA rate will have to do for now. Still $34 off which is churros for a night. If I could score a 30% off room code, I'd be tempted to change to 2 rooms at the Poly for that first night. :cloud9: A garden view Poly room is $557 without any discount. For one night. :faint: Is that normal. That seems very high.
