We are planning a 9-night trip to AKL Kidani next August. I originally booked Concierge in Jambo, but upon further reflection we think we would rather stay in Kidani (for the better room lay-out including 2nd bathroom)--+ we could stay at least a couple of nights longer for basically the same points(depending on view selected)

Question: Do you think the savanna view at Kidani would be worth the extra 60 points it would cost us for the duration of trip we plan?

Thanks for insights and opinions!

Unless you plan to spend most of the 10 days/9 nights in a park or the pool, wouldn't it be nice to be on the savanna? Sure seems like it to me - not hard to imagine the early morning coffee and the late evening drink on the balcony. :)

I just came back from my week stay at Kidani. I had a two bedroom savanna view. It was nice looking at the animals in the morning, but out of my week stay, my family only look at them two or 3 times. I found my family looking at the aniimals more in the lobby and alround the resort than in our room.

I think you should do it onces, but after that go with a standard.

ITA we couldn't do it any other way.:thumbsup2

We did standard at Kidani since, we did Jambo savannah in the past. We just went to the lobby to see the animals. We will be doing standard again next time at Kidani.

We just came back from a 5 night stay with a Savanna view. I was out there every day taking pictures.:cloud9: (I came back with 500 pictures...mostly of the resort and the animals. :rolleyes1 ) We loved the Savanna!

But...with that many days/points, an idea is to "split" your stay...maybe 4 or 5 days Standard view, and the rest Savanna View. That would give you a means of comparison without much moving. (Unless you don't like moving at all.)

ITA!:thumbsup2 Splitting the stay, particularly at AKV, is really easy and it will allow you to compare both views. I would recommend planning your switch day to be a park day. This way, you check in to your new room, drop off your luggage at bell services and then move to your new room when you come home from the park.

When looking at the upgrade options I try to equate it to how much it would cost me to rent those extra points (at about $10/pt) and see if I feel it's "worth it" to me.

Averaging it out, 60 points over 9 nights is about an extra 6.7 pts per night (do yourself a and don't worry over the fact that the Fri/Sat points are higher unless you really don't care that you'd be packing up and moving rooms). So, for an extra $67/night, would it be worth it to you to have that savanna view? Only you know.

We stayed at Kidani for 6 nights in August and loved it. We tried to get a savannah view but were unable to. We ended up in a standard view room and it was fine. there were so many opportunities to see the animals in other parts of the resort that we really didn't miss a savannah view when we were in our room. We will definitely go back to Kidani but right now I don't think a savannah view will be worth the extra points for us.

We opted for the standard room. We are going in a few weeks and felt that we could spend time around the resort watching the animals. It sure would be nice to get up and sit out and watch them - but we felt saving the points was a better option. Not sure we would spend that much time in our room, we will be out and about exploring the resort.

What is the difference between Jambo and Kidani?

What is the difference between Jambo and Kidani?

Jambo is now the name of the former Animal Kingdom Lodge bulding and only the top 5th and 6th floors (and sixth is only around the lobby) are DVC, the rest is still hotel. Kidani is the new DVC building near Jambo which is all DVC. Together the two buildings combined are now called Animal Kingdom Lodge. Jambo 1 and 2BRs are about the size of the same at BWV, SSR, VWL, and BCV, and Kidani's are signficantly larger and have an extra bathroom. Each has a theme pool, Jambo has the most restaurants including a counter service and a buffet, Kidani has only a table service restaurant, Kidani's lobby and store are smaller than Jambo's. Jambo is the only one having low point cost value rooms and concierge rooms. If you are staying at one building, you can use all the facilities at the other but it can be a rather long walk from your room in one building to the main entrance of the other.

Thank you!!! When you say 'low point cost value rooms' that means not savannah view?

I was surprised to find out some of the value rooms do have a savannah view.

Can you help me with the definition of a 'value' room then? Does that mean a studio?

DVC is pretty foreign to me and I am trying to feel my way around.

Value rooms are three feet shorter than other rooms at Jambo. They have 8 dedicated studios and 10 2br L/O becoming 10 1br and 10 studiois. The value rooms only sleep 4.

OK I am sorry to sound so dumb but...what does L/O mean?

And those rooms rent for fewer points? Is that why they are called value rooms?

Yes they require less points, since Value rooms are smaller than the other rooms and they can not sleep 5 in the Value rooms.
