I am so thankful to be finished with this extremely challenging school year.
From the beginning when we had a superintendent who misappropriated funds which has lead us into the next school year with such serious financial issues that teachers, social workers, and behavioral specialists have been fired and there will be absolutely no paraprofessionals. I marched in a protest to oust her which eventually worked but not before serious damage was done.
I had several students with shockingly violent behavioral issues which made it very difficult for me to keep my other students safe...to the point that I had to evacuate my classroom multiple times while a disregulated 5 year-old destroyed the classroom.
I survived a lot and somehow managed to teach most of them and prepare them for first grade.
Yes, once again, I am very grateful to put this school year behind me.
I have begun the arduous training process for my part time summer job. I completed DCF training again...just did it 9 months ago, but it was still required. I printed a second certificate to hand in to school so I don't have to repeat it in August. The TWO-HOUR sexual harassment training was interesting, and when I say that, I mean that some of the examples were quite salacious. Good Lord Louise. Of course, when they asked for the email to send the certificate to, I sent it to my new supervisor then later found out that it's supposed to go to a different email address. Just another stupid problem to solve. I have to take a "Heads Up" concussion course, but they didn't tell me which one...there's so many. Nobody has responded to my email inquiry, maybe because they don't know either. Since I will be the highest paid staff because of my credentials, they asked me to take Wednesdays off which are the longer days for field trips. It's more cost-effective to have other staff work those days. I'm fine with that. It's less money, but it will be nice to have a week day all to myself. The facility is brand new and gorgeous...A/C works. That's all I need.
I am thankful that even though the onboarding process is ridiculous, it appears that I will be working in a nice environment.
I am thankful to have Wednesdays off.
We are having major issues with our pool heater just like last year. It's looking like it will be a warranty claim. In the meantime, they are trying to do a work around so we can use our pool. It's getting into the 90's in the next few days, so I hope that will be the case.
I am thankful that the repairman is here working on the pool heater right now.
I am thankful to have the time to post on Disboards. It's been a challenge lately. Time is everything.
