Title pretty much says it all. I've done several tours, but I can't remember if we tipped the guides. Someone asked me about it the other day.....since I can't remember, does anyone here have the definitive word??? As if we are going to get a 'definitive word' here on the DIS!!!!

We did the KTTK tour as well as the Marceline tour and we didn't tip the guides. I didn't see the others on the tour do so either. I thought I heard that they can't accept tips, but not sure on that. :)

We did the KTTK tour and it didn't seem like anyone tipped the guide. We didn't either. ;)

The idea never even occurred to me. I don't see why you WOULD tip them.

Since they are working by walking around in the hot Florida sun, it would be a nice gesture.
It is a moot point since it is not allowed.

Glad to hear that they cannot accept tips since tipping did not cross our minds when we took the tour last year.

I've taken over half a dozen tours and it never even crossed my mind to tip the guide(s). And I'm an unhesitatingly generous tipper by nature! Glad it's not allowed as I would have felt awful stiffing someone! Having said that, I do tip the wait staff a few bucks whenever a meal has been included. It just feels awkward to me not to do so...

We did the KTTK tour last week - someone at the end did tip the guide & the guide did accept it. If I'd had any cash I would have tipped too - it was a great tour!

Good to know. Tipping is a bit of a weird experience for us when we visit the USA.

We took the tour in December and saw someone tipping the guide afterwards although we didn't.

It's a grey area. Technically, CM's are not allowed to accept tips except when in a position that it is customary to tip, like a server or a housekeeper. A tour guide can be considered a tipping position in some companies, so is a bus driver. At Disney, they are not considered tipped positions.

That being said, there are times where I may have been offered a tip for extra services I provided for a guest. I cannot deny or confirm accepting it if offered.

Tips or items of other than nominal value are supposed to be turned into your manager. I know of at least one driver (not me) who was offered a very large tip for finding and returning a wallet to a guest at the Swan. The wallet contained several thousand dollars and all the guests credit cards. When the driver reported the tip to his manager, the manager said "I don't see that and neither do you." It was a very nice thing his manager did, of course, his manager knew of the circumstances and was instrumental in connecting the driver with the guest.
