Kevin, why tables around WS would never work as intended

Just listened to the Food & Wine podcast. While I agree that tables set up around world showcase to stop and eat at before moving on, sounds like a great idea - it would never work, especially if they add chairs

Backstory: I'm sure you have been to the Party for the Senses. My husband & I went about 5 years ago and loved it with the exception of the lack of seating. Those 'in the know' got in early and claimed all the big tables with chairs (We had no idea and strolled in after the massive line had entered.) Only the small tables you can stand at were left - no problem for us (so we thought)

Only once the whole night did we find an unoccupied table before moving on, but more often than not, people would NOT share their table with us for 2 minutes so we could eat our food!! Even if only 2 people stood at a table - they would say it was 'taken'. Of course,on a few occasions we had people share the space for a couple minutes and we moved on.

The experience as a whole left us with a negative feeling due to the amount of money we spent on our tickets and the very rude behavior of some guests. We wouldn't go back unless we bought the guaranteed seats.

Anyway on to my point, many people would 'set up camp' at the tables and not move on. And if they added chairs.........

Sorry but this doesn't make sense. Are you saying I would park myself at Mexico all day just to maintain a table? I don't think so. I'm enjoying all of World Showcase during F&W. My opinion. :goodvibes

I believe Kevin just wanted more tables to put your food on.

We had the same experience at the Party for the Senses.

I think this would be different in that the PFTS was contained in one spot.

It's going to be difficult to set up camp in one spot as the food and drink is spread out all around World Showcase.

I wouldnt mind if they put out bar tables without chairs. I'm just tired of eating on top of a trash can.

Guests in wheel chairs or scooters can also have a difficult time reaching the top of a trash can on which to set their food.

While I agree it would be nice to have more tables around world showcase. I personally do not think it would work especially with the insane crowds I saw at world showcse on the last night of our trip. How would you even be able to move around? :confused3 Maybe they could set up some sort of bar type seating along the railings of world showcase but it probably would not look good.

They way I look at it is its the food and wine "festival" it's not called the food and wine "sit down dinner" with any festival like the one in little italy or the more elaborate food network festival they had this past weekened in nyc..you eat and walk around. If you want to sit down you can make reservations at one of the sit down events or eat at one of the restaurants at world showcase.

This is it exactly George.:thumbsup2

I'm not suggesting "wedding reception" style seating.....but some extra bar tables (high and low) would be great.

If you buy one of the offered dishes and a glass of wine, you have to find a surface to set something down in order to eat and drink.

Some items are more portable than others, but if you order food and a drink, you need a spot to set them down!

I found that the area around the right side behind Mitsukoshi in Japan made a good makeshift spot to eat your food in the shade. I avoid weekends at F&W and can usually find a standing table or alternative spot other than a trash can to eat.

I was in Epcot yesterday for an event, and the crowds were definitely too massive to do the festival justice. I left Epcot as fast ad I could after my event.

Agreed. This seems to make perfect sense for an event like food & wine.

I agree with this. I have a tray that attached to my chair, but people on an ECV or a wheelchair without a tray may have a hard time.

Wheelchair trays are expensive, but a very basic wheelchair tray is less expensive than a seat at Party for the Senses. :lmao:

Used wheelchair trays can be found on Ebay for a reasonable price, sometimes. :)

So what you are saying is:
Buy a wheelchair tray and rent a wheelchair and then go to the party of the senses..
It's cheaper then buying a ticket for TPOTS with seating....

Am i right???:rotfl:

Having the Imagineers create a table that would fit over the top of the garbage cans is a good idea.

They also could create something that would fit on some of the railings that are here and there around WS.

We were at EPCOT when some of the Podcasters were there as well. :) Never did see those Podcasters but I was looking. :lmao: Funny to think that we might have passed each other in our search for food.

Later,
Dan

I'm going to the Food & Wine Nov. 13, do you think the crowd levels will be just as high that weekend?

Not exactly what I was going for, but that just might work.:goodvibes:goodvibes:goodvibes:lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao::lmao:

I think resorting to eating on the top of a garbage can is gross! NOT that I haven't done it!!!
I think Disney should see the problem clearly when thier guests are resorting to eating on the top garbage pails.
Those high top tables that you stand at sould do the job, or someting creative attached to the railings. But PLEASE Disney, give us something to eat on other than a garbage pail!!!!!!!

Yes. That is the last weekend for F&W- the crowds will be pretty big. We will be there 11/8- 11/14, and due to MVMCP dates, EMHs and other scheduling conflicts, we can only visit Epcot on Friday, 11/12 and Sunday, 11/14. We are prepared for big crowds at WS- hopefully FW won't be too bad in the mornings...

I will also be there that weekend.:)

Perhaps it is akin to the lack of benches around the hub in the Magic Kingdom. After dark they can become a safety hazard, as guests drag them willy nilly and abandon them when they are done, leaving them behind to become shin bruisers or tourist trippers.:confused3

Several years ago there were a lot more bar tables around WS during the F&W Festival. It seems like each year they put fewer and fewer out.

We were there opening day and again for the after race party following the Wine and Dine Half Marathon. The crowds were insane. We could have went back again on the following Tuesday but chose not to as we felt the food offerings hadn't changed that much but the prices had increased!!! Instead we enjoyed lounging around SAB at the Y&B Club!!!!

We arrive on the 13th but plan to stay far away from F&W. Originally I thought maybe we'd stop by, but with it being the last weekend, hearing about the crowds and eating on top of garbage cans, we'll be doing MK and AK instead and head over to Epcot on Monday after the F&W crowds have gone.

That sounds like a good plan- but have you ever experienced F&W before? If you haven't, and you are at all interested, you should brave the crowds, at least for lunchtime- it isn't as crowded during the day as it gets in the evening.

We tried to find a good day for Epcot, but our first park day will be Tuesday. Epcot has EMH days on both Tuesday and Wednesday, so they will both have more crowds than normal (and we aren't staying onsite, so can't take advantage of EMHs anyway). Thursday is our AK day, and we have to go to MK on Saturday for MSEP (we don't have park hoppers this trip). That leaves Friday and Sunday.

I agree! There is a real "eewwww!!!" factor about putting your food on top of a trash can!

Maybe I could handle a dish of food.
Maybe I could handle a glass of wine.
It is called the food and wine festival, after all!
But could I handle a food and wine at the same time? Not so easy!
