We have one within a mile of our house, yet we have never tried it. Our friends had told us that it was a restaurant geared towards adults. My dh's boss actually gave us a gift certificate for Christmas and we hadn't got around to using it yet.
After listening to Kevin's review we decided to give it a try last night. It was my eldest daughter's birthday and she is a big seafood lover. I went online and printed out the menu to make sure everyone could have a look and get an idea of what they would order.
We arrived at 5pm because we were still apprehensive about bring our children. The manager/owner greeted us at the door and explained they would have to get a table together for us since they didn't have large tables ready. My daughter spoke up and told her that it was her birthday and she had picked the restaurant. The manager told her she could have an order of bang bang shrimp on the house!
We got to the table and the manager came back around and started talking to my daughter again. She told her to make sure NOT to share her shrimp. My daughter said how she wanted the special (which was shrimp), but now she would have to look over the menu. The manager explained that the menu and specials haven't been changed on their website in two years! She said that they had to pay to update their menu and prices on the Bonefish website and she didn't think anyone used it.
Imagine when I picked up the menu and saw how much more the restaurant items cost at my town in WA compared to Orlando! None of the specials were under $20! And I had all my other children asking for their own appetizers now that the birthday girl was getting one!
Luckily we happened to come during happy hour, so I encourged the kids who wanted appetizers to team up with a sibling and order three apps. and share rather than order an entree.
I ordered a house salad and the coconut shrimp app. for myself in an effort to keep costs down. The happy hour cost for the shrimp was still over $8 and consisted of 6 medium/small shrimp. The dipping sauce was delicious though!
My daughter loved her bang bang shrimp, but couldn't eat her chicken pud thai.
It took awhile for us to get our food. We were there for almost 2 hours and the place was packed! We were the only family with kids there!!! My kids are older, thank goodness, but it did make my husband and I uncomfortable. We even got a couple of looks from other tables.
The food was excellent, but with hungry tweens/teenagers we couldn't afford to satisfy everyone. My son had the chicken pud thai and complained that he should have had an appetizer too because he wasn't full after completing his entree.
The gift certificate hardly made a dent in our bill. Plus my husband was not pleased with me because of the adult atmosphere and menu prices.
I think we will keep this place in mind for date nights, but I doubt I'll take the kids again.
