Kevin and the teams frequent mention of PUBLIX

this chicken looks amazing i can't wait to get some on my next trip

wonder if PUBLIX would ever consider having ministores on Disney property.

I was checking their prices as well and they seem very reasonable

Shoprite has their CAN-CAN sale which is pretty cheap. In south jersey there is a place called PRODUCE JUNCTION where you can produce directly from farmers at rock bottom prices

Produce is something I thought would be much less expensive when I moved here to Florida from Seattle. Boy was I wrong!!

I thought the same thing when we travel to Florida. I figured at least oranges and things grown in Florida would be cheaper. Nope. Most of that stuff is cheaper at home in New Jersey.

ETA: My cousin lives in Boynton Beach. A friend back home in Philadelphia had asked him to ship him oranges. He went to the local farmer's market and it turned out that much of the stock of oranges wasn't even from Florida. It made more sense for his friend to just go to his local supermarket and buy them himself.

I think if you go directly to the sources/the farms you can do well - I know our next door neighbors are snowbirds and always had citrus shipped to us from Florida, but it was directly from the supplier not via a grocery store

The majority of produce in our grocery stores is not from Florida. It's shipped in from other places (South America), so shipping costs have to be factored.

Oranges in the grocery store are higher priced than local grove stands.

Farmers Markets are also usually lower priced that grocery stores

Corn from Zellwood and Strawberries from Plant City are locally grown favorites and are usually much less expensive during their growing, seasons as there is an abundance.

Florida mostly grows juicing oranges. For eating oranges CA has the best. You can't beat the strawberries from Plant City. With the sandy soil and the hot summers it is hard to have a vegetable garden. Your growing seasons are different here. Tomatoes from FL have no flavor. I long for a good PA tomato.

Our "back up" Publix wedding cake was sooo much better than our ordered from "the cake lady" in town. Yum!

Also the closest Publix (until the one 2 blocks from my house opens in Nov-yipee!) has a wonderful hiring policy--some of their baggers are differently abled-I'm so happy that a large (ish) corp gives these wonderful people (one greets me with a cheery hello! and hug) opportunity.

Joisey tomatoes. On Wonder white bread, with Helmann's mayo, and salt. Nothing else needed! :)

coming from my home state of Massachusetts..... Out of the dozens of times Ive been to Orlando I finally stopped at a Publix. We stopped at the bakery to get grinders...I mean subs!! Lol. Lets just say that Im now addicted to the Publix bakery!

Coming from Plymouth MA originally I'm very familiar with Stop & Shop supermarkets. Publix is a very good supermarket chain here in FL. We frequent our local store several times a week. I'd rate them somewhat better than S&S.

Stop & Barf

Horrible produce. Mainly high prices.

A Market Basket will be opening next year two minutes away from the Stop & Barf.
Hopefully Market Basket is better.

I don't know if Market Basket near you is any different, but i know the one in NE NJ is VERY expensive, especially with their catering, platters, etc. Very good quality, but man - you PAY for it!!

It's funny how supermarket chains are still such a regional thing. You say supermarket to me I think Hannaford's or Shaw's. If I went on the West Coast or something and said those names people would look at me like I was from Mars. When I was in the Marines (not even that long ago, early 2000's) a lot of people in California hadn't even heard of Dunkin' Donuts then which to me seemed really weird (I understand Dunkin is now a known "thing" on the West Coast though). And don't even get me started on Krispy Kreme BLECH, this New England boy needs his DD.

Publix is the best supermarket. Living in the midwest now I really miss them. We visit every single trip. Nothing else compares to their bakery, deli, seafood or produce. It's like specialty but in a chain store. Can't speak highly enough about them.

We're originally from NYC, which is mostly the land of Stop and Shops or Pathmark. Our local stores in NYC have narrow aisles, tall shelves, and garish fluorescent lighting. Everybody's in a rush, it's always crowded. UGH! Publix is like a dream, comparatively.

We moved south about 4 years ago and we're a good hour and a half south of the Disney tourist area, so our Publix stores are much more local stores.

I find what Publix sells to really be of good quality. Their subs are delicious and basically the stuff of legend. At work, if you have a Publix sub, people will be like "OMG. Is that a Publix sub. Aren't they amazing?" Seriously, they are. Their fried chicken is pretty fantastic.. I also really enjoy their sushi, which is decent for supermarket sushi.

However, what always gets me is that shopping there is just a pleasant experience. Employees are helpful and kind without being pushy. I've had some interactions with the meat department and bakery at our store and they go out of their way to be helpful. Stores are always clean and even when crowded, don't feel packed.

I kind of also feel like our Publix people go the extra mile. They bring in all the carts when it starts raining so patrons don't have to get a wet cart. We have a Publix Simple Meals kiosk, where they will cook samples, using what's on sale that week. Not only does our woman do the best announcements, but she's always ready with suggestions and such and can talk at length about any of their recipes. I really love that.

I guess the long and the short of this is I have a lot of feelings about Publix.
