Kevin and the teams frequent mention of PUBLIX

Another plus for Publix (at least for locals that shop there regularly) is their BOGO specials every week. Val & i peruse their new flyer every Thursday for BOGO's and stock up on things we use regularly when they go on sale. That's obviously not a factor for those that are just visiting though.

That was a more elegant way of stating what I was trying to convey. When I'm actually cooking, I go once a week and just buy all the BOGOs that I use, and just wait until things are on sale before cooking something unless I'm REALLY hungry for it.

No Publix here, just Metro Markets and Pick n' Saves (which are owned by the same company, so why have multiple names I don't know) and Sendiks. But my all time favorite grocery store is Woodmans It's like the size of a super walmart but all groceries. The liquor department is like visiting a regular liquor store as well. Pick n Save is across the street from me, but I'll drive 20 minutes away to go to Woodmans. Things are cheaper there, and stuff I thought was no longer sold (cause Pick n Save stopped carrying it) Woodman's has, Their Cheese Aisle beats any store anytime! Don't believe me, take a look at some of these pictures. Love the reduced priced sections of the store when they price products to go because they are use/freeze by tonight or toss. The only thing bad I have to say about Woodman's is it gets CRAZY BUSY on the weekends, if you can avoid shopping friday afternoon - Sunday do it!

Don't forget some areas of Florida have Trader Joe's. People who frequent Publix a lot know that all Publix's are not treated equally. A few offer cooking classes, some have more ethnic food varieties for the neighborhoods they are in, and some cater to more gourmet foods. I live between 2 Publix stores and will debate which one I want to go to before I go. #firstworldproblems

On the other hand when you head out of Florida into Georgia and the Carolina's there is another store called Ingle's - these are comparable to Publix. Publix is now expanding into the Carolina's, Tennessee, and further north.

We have Whole Foods and Trader Joe's here in NJ. We almost never go to either. There really isn't anything at Whole Foods that we want that we can't get at Wegman's for less and Trader Joe's stores are pretty tiny and sell a very limited selection of items, none of which we need. Plus, their location isn't great. We stop in maybe once a year just for the heck of it but that's about it.

Ingle's?? The Ingle's here by me in NC is where you go to if you're looking to get shanked LOL. It's one step below Aldi's. But I understand the ones in the nicer areas like Asheville are pretty good.

We are very excited that two Publix's are opening within minutes of our house. When we visit our family outside of Atlanta we always make a trip there for the fried chicken and some bakery stuff. They rave over the deli too. When we drive to Disney we stop at the Publix just north of Deltona (much less crowded) to stock up stuff for the room.

Interesting note, we love to play Cards Against Humanity. Two of the blank cards we filled out with the answers "The Awesome Bakery at Publix" and "Publix Fried Chicken".

Just for some perspective. The new Wegmans near Richmond, VA attracted 24000+ people to it's grand opening last week.

Count me as another who would miss it if I moved away again.

No trip to FL is complete with out at least one stop at Publix. Here in NC we have Food Lion, Harris Teeter and Walmart... we are getting two Publix stores in the next year. We cannot wait, no stores in town have any type of bakery to speak of, the subs are great and we've never had a bad experience.

I can't think of any major supermarket anywhere near here that doesn't have an in-store bakery. I mean places like Aldi and Trader Joe's don't but I don't consider them full-service stores. You're going to love Publix.

I used to work for Publix actually during the 90's and they treat their employees pretty well.

When I lived in Alabama for a brief period of times, I would often think about the bakery department. They have dessert cups now that is so deliciously sinful.

Where are they building the new Publix? The two in Cary have opened already, but I'd love if there were one closer than 25 mins from our house.

Harris Teeter, Food Lion, and Walmart all have bakeries. They're nothing special, but typical of any grocery store that I've visited.

Love your avatar, GrumpyDad! Made me LOL!

I love my publix and all that work there! My cashier knows my name, They bag my groceries just the way I like it, last week, I couldn't find an item I needed. and the manager and 2 others searched the store till they found just what I wanted. I find The pricing varies depending on the store. The one nearest me is is close to UCF and I was told that the pricing runs a bit less. The Cocoa Beach store is pricey and is full of snowbird employees. The new one on 50 east is not bad and seems to employ only 12 year old UCF students. The Winter Park one has nice looking baggers but no cell reception in the dairy dept. The one I go to on my way back from the podcast has an odd, but friendly dude in produce and a stock clerk that sings.

Guess the economy is still in rough shape if even geniuses that can get into college at 12 can't do better than working at a grocery store ;)

That's nice though when they recognize you and know how you like things bagged, etc.

We have relatives down in the Boca area and we hit up Publix when there and they seem pretty nice - definitely better than standard grocery stores near where I live but not as nice as a Wegman's or something like that which is more than just a grocery store

Publix is one of the main supermarket chains in the area. Honestly, there's really nothing terribly special about it (although I keep hearing their fried chicken is excellent). We do shop there whenever we're in town but I'd take Wegman's over Publix any day.

I tried the fried chicken when I was down there in April.....it is by far the best fried chicken I've ever had. Wish they had that store in Virginia.

I kinda wish I could go to a publix when I'm there in August, but that would take away from Disney/universal time.
Garden grocer it is!!
