Kevin and the teams frequent mention of PUBLIX

I love that this thread is still going :rotfl: Though it has convinced me when I go to get my snacks/drinks after I arrive next month, I'll go to Publix instead of Walmart or Target.

I think at this point we will be disappointed if there are no Mega Meet events held at a Publix "On Saturday from 6 to 8, come meet Kevin at Publix ... 5% of all fried chicken purchases will go to benefit Give Kids the World"

Speaking of which, if anyone at the Mega Meet needs anything, I'd be happy to pick it up for them since I have the car. :)

wonder if PUBLIX would ever consider having ministores on Disney property.

the deli and bakery of publix delivers, they started trying it out in nov. not sure if they would deliver to a resort but worth looking into. gardengrocers will if they don't. There is also a chance that shipt will (and it's a free trial the first month you can cancel and never pay). shipt has quick delivery times so you could literally order in the morning and get it at lunch.

I'll go to Publix instead of Walmart or Target.

The Celebration Publix might be closer than the target/walmart depending on your resort. (a little further away depending on how you exit property/if you stop on your way in). I do a majority of my shopping at that one.. really nice store, very clean.

It's funny how supermarket chains are still such a regional thing. You say supermarket to me I think Hannaford's or Shaw's. If I went on the West Coast or something and said those names people would look at me like I was from Mars. When I was in the Marines (not even that long ago, early 2000's) a lot of people in California hadn't even heard of Dunkin' Donuts then which to me seemed really weird (I understand Dunkin is now a known "thing" on the West Coast though). And don't even get me started on Krispy Kreme BLECH, this New England boy needs his DD.
Thank you for your service.

And I'll agree - didn't know until just very recently (when I was watching somebody review the new Almond Joy & Heath Bar iced coffees actually) that DD was "not so big" in CA. The guy doing the review said DD was very new to him!

We have Albertsons, IGA, and Walmart where I live. I liked the publix we went to not far from Disneyworld on our trip. It was nice and clean and everyone we met was very helpful so we could get the few things we needed and be on our way quickly. I am having fun playing around on the website and have even been able to find a bread close to one I use at home at least it doesn't have HFCS in it and is a white wheat. (Though my children would rather have a white bread) Nothing is going to beat a bread that the wheat is grown less than 3 hours from me and is ground and processed into the bread less than 20 miles from the field (some of them even closer).

Made my first visit to a Publix last week. We bought loads of Publix-brand stuff, specifically the fried chicken, sushi, bagels, English muffins, Italian cookies, "Kids' meal" deli trays, NY style potato salad, hummus, hoagie rolls, kaiser rolls, and layered cake and pudding cups. Phew.
Everything was better than average for a grocery store, with the exception of the potato salad, hummus, bagels, cookies, and cake cups. None of these were exceptionally bad, just not something I'd buy again. It's a good place to buy a pre-prepared lunch or dinner. The sushi was my favorite thing, followed by the chicken (did I taste celery salt in that breading?)
Other than the Publix brand food, I found their overall selection to be better than average, except the produce department, which is not as good as our local Harris Teeter or even Lowe's foods. Have yet to try the meat or seafood. Employees were courteous and helpful. They even brought my groceries out to the car, which I haven't seen since I was a kid.
Overall, I will return. Just wish it was closer than 30 minutes to my house!

I don't know if Market Basket near you is any different, but i know the one in NE NJ is VERY expensive, especially with their catering, platters, etc. Very good quality, but man - you PAY for it!!
Heidi, I think the Market Basket you are speaking of is different then the one most people are talking about. I did a bit of investigating since I have time on this Sat night. There is a The Market Basket in NJ but it looks like more grommet food type stuff. The Market Basket in NH, MA, and Maine used to be called Demoulas. It is considered the cheapest one around here. I looked on their website and they don't have locations in NJ. A few summers (2014) they actually had a fight with the 2 owners. Long story there but the customers sort of boycotted the store because the current CEO was trying to get rid of the other owner but the current CEO wasn't treating the workers well. That was an interesting summer. lol
As for Publics I used to go to one near Seaworld. When I did my advanced internship in 2000 Disney put us up in an apartment complex near Seaworld. Since I haven't been back I wonder if things have changed much or could I still find my way around. I do remember Publics was cheaper then Goodings at the Crossroad.

Okay - thanx - had never been to the Market Basket (think it's in Franklin Lakes, if I'm not mistaken, which is DEFINITELY "high rent district" anyway), but had gotten quotes for catering from there, and heard/seen people talking about events they had done, and had their delicious stuff.

I remember this story! Heard about it all the way in Indiana. It was a great example of a win for the little guy if I remember correctly.
