ok.. need to get a gift .. these 2 take disc inserted in the machine to make each cup as i understand it ...the more i read the more confused i am .. don't know which one to get !

which one would you buy and why ?? is one better than the other..
the only other thing i know is that the tassimo is made by BOSCH ??

please help...

I have no experience with Keurig, but I have a Tassimo. I've had it for 2 years now. The thing I like about it is that it makes cappuccinos and lattes. You can't do that with a Keurig.

I love my Keurig. The k-cups come in a huge variety of flavors. I do think I've seen cappuccino and espresso ones sold on Amazon, but it doesn't have a milk steamer like a real cappuccino machine would. It's great if all you drink is just one cup of coffee at a time. It's easy to use. You fill the reservoir up with water, which can be good for multiple cups. You put the k-cup in the holder. Push the button and you have a fresh cup of joe.

Does the Keurig make a strong cup of coffee. I don't like it strong.

Does the Keurig make a strong cup of coffee. I don't like it stong.

My Keurig has three settings. One is for a small cup which can be strong, one is for a medium cup (just slightly larger) which is regular strength, then the large cup makes a weaker cup of coffee. I usually go with that one, the guys I work with prefer a strong cup and make the small cup. Plus, it depends on what type of coffee you buy. I go with the flavored varieties, the guys I work with prefer the Kona blend.

I've been researching this same subject...Keurig vs Tassimo for a few days now. Here's what I'm gathering...

I've heard (through these boards) that it may be the Platinum version of the Keurig that has some issues and the machine seems to have a history of breaking down after owning it less than a year. Reviews on Amazon are scary - they're littered with negatives on the Keurig. So, would we assume that the Special Edition Kuerig (that makes only 3 cup sizes) would not be prone to breaking down?

I've also read the the coffee is not hot...it's very warm, but not hot. Is that true for the Keurig? How does the Tassimo do on temperature?

Question - if you make the travel mug setting cup of coffee, is the coffee weak? This is a question for both the Kuerig and Tassimo owners.

Tassimo has far, far less choices of coffee pod/cups than the Keurig.

Tassimo can make lattes and cappucinos. Kuerig cannot.

Tassimo is a bit more expensive than the Keurig. But if it works more reliably, then that's a plus right there.

I looked at the models at Target this afternoon. The Platinum Keurig is bigger than the Special Edition Keurig. It seems taller and a bit wider. Not sure if this will cause any space issues for some.

If I were to get a Keurig, I think I'd get it from Costco due to the excellent return policy. I'm nervous over all the negative reviews but I know Costco stands behind their products and that would be a good insurance policy.

I got spoiled on the Lavazza machine while on a NCL cruise. I want one...but oh, can't afford one!! So which one is better...a Tassimo or a Keurig????

I have the Platinum(B70)Keurig I love it. Yes I did have a problem with the pump called Keurig & they replaced it no charge. One quick phone call 3 days later new one & a code for a free box of cups.

I've had my platinum kuerig for about a year now, and it has never missed a beat, and the coffee is really hot, gotta wait to drink it or i'll be in the ER for mouth burns. Kuerig does make a milk frother that you can get to do the Latte thing, but if i'm jonesing for something like that, I'll head to one of the coffee shops in town....:thumbsup2:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

thanks for everyones knowledge here !! i knew i can count on you guys ... but as i fully understand it ... the keurig will only take the k-cups and the tassimo machine will only use those discs (round shape) ??

thanks.

How long did you have it before the pump failed? How long have you had it with the new pump? I guess I don't understand why they don't issue a recall and just fix the darn thing right.

I believe that is correct.

So which one are you leaning towards. I go back and forth. I like the idea of cappucinos with the tassimo but I love the availability and variety of the kcups with the kuerig. I am very nervous about the platinum/pump problem.

Not sure if anyone mentioned that with the Keurig you can grind any coffee beans you want, and insert it in the reusable filter. In my mind this defeats the convenience of the k-cups, but for someone with more exotic tastes in coffee it comes in handy. I've had the Keurig for about a year now--not sure which model it is but I think it was around $130-$140. I really like the unit and recommend it to friends. I buy K-cups on Amazon and select free shipping and am delighted at how quickly my orders arrive.:)

Costco also has a platinum on it's website for 149.99 including the my kcup and a 60 count variety pack. If someone is running to Costco today, I know they have them in the store. I wonder if it's the same package deal they carry online.

My sticking point is the return policy - especially with the known problems of the pump. Not sure if QVC will honor something up to a year down the road. Costco's policy is outstanding.

Once you register the machine with Keurig they will take care of any problems.

I get that. :)

What I'm concerned about is that if this non-functioning/pump issue happens one too many times, at some point I'm going to want to be done with it and just return it. That's when I'll need a strong refund policy in place from whereever I buy it from.

We've had our Keurig B60 for 3 years this month and I would not be without it. :goodvibes I like having a wide variety of coffees - especially this time of year. Right now in my kitchen I have Green Mountain Holiday Blend, Spicy Eggnog, Gingerbread, Golden French Toast (it makes the kitchen smell like maple syrup when you brew it!), and Timothy's Winter Carnival (this is my favorite holiday blend - it has almost a caramel taste to it), and Midnight Magic. Timothy's Midnight Magic Extra Bold is my go-to coffee because it's still pretty strong on the largest setting. I like a nice big strong cup of coffee in the morning. Especially for mixing with a seasonal Coffee Mate like peppermint mocha. :thumbsup2 :rotfl: The coffee is hot enough that I can add a good shot of cold Coffee Mate from the fridge and it's still too hot to drink for a few minutes.

I'm getting one for my parents for Christmas this year. They were visiting for a couple weeks after DS was born in August and they made fun of my Keurig when they got here. By the end of their visit, they were in love.

We've had the special edition for nearly 3 years. It was DHs Christmas present in 2007. It has never had a problem. He has a Platinum Edition from Costco that was bought in Feb or March and it is wishy washy, he need to call and have it replaced. My mom has the single cup one and has never had an issue.

I don't drink coffee so I can't comment on it.

I do use it for hot water for hot chocolate and tea. They do have tea k-cups but I wasn't a fan of the 1 kind I tried.

With ours the temperature can be set. We don't have it as high as it can go and the water coming out is too hot for me to drink immediately.

It has been perfect for us. I hate the coffee taste and the coffee smell so DH brewing a pot was useless and just annoyed me because I had to smell it forever.

I have a Tassimo. Sometimes I think I am the only one! THe Keurig is way more popular. Fortunately I like doing the opposite of everyone else. :cool1: The coffee is HOT. The strongest varieties are the Starbucks disks - they have a lot of grounds in them - house blend is my favorite. I have had Keurig coffee on the small settings and it is nowhere near as strong and hot as the Starbucks varieties for the Tassimo.

The lattes and cappuccinos are the real reason I chose the Tassimo over the Keurig. The Maxwell house cappuccinos are my favorite milk drink and are available on amazon.com or if I am lucky I find them at Target. I do wish they had a few more flavored varieties - I can count on one hand the flavored varieties they have. bah

My machine has been reliable - heavy use for almost a year. I did have to call to get a replacement piercing unit - which is supposed to be a consumable. For what it is worth, I had a fantastic customer service experience when I called about this on a SATURDAY MORNING!!

I really love my Tassimo and wouldn't trade it for a Keurig. However, if I was buying a gift - I think I would go with the more mainstream Keurig unless the recipient is an avid latte/cappuccino drinker.
