I guess this is a question for you Pittsburghers, did anyone get the pass and do you think it is a good deal?

I got it for DH & I, since we like to go for a few hours (about 1/2 day) and the come home, but we like to do this multiple times durning the summer. We also like to go in the evening sometimes too, but we did not go last year since it was almost $35 per person per day. With the pass it is $89.99 for the entire season.

So what does everyone else think?

I got it for the kids and me. I love the idea of being able to take them just for the afternoon or evening. I never would have done this before - it seemed like a waste of money to buy tickets just for a few hours.

This is also one of the reasons I buy and love WDW Annual Passes.

Sorry to interrupt, but I am curious...what is Kennywood? I have never heard of it? Is it like Dollywood??!!!??? (Dolly and Kenny..cute:) heehhee:rotfl:

I think it is great to get the season pass if you are local, we love Kennywood and try to go every couple of years. On the topic of season passes we gat them for Dorney Park 2 years ago and they were good for all Cedar Fair parks so we planned our vacations with that in mind went to DP Ceadr Pt and got a long weekend in @ Kings Dominion also, you need to make them work for you.

We live in Canonsburg and it takes us a good 45 minutes to get to Kennywood. We have not gone for the last two years because my son doesn't really ride the coasters and rides much. If we were closer I'd get it just to walk around and have potato patch fries! LOL!

I can understand if you do not live that close. We live in Turtle Creek and can be there in about 10-15 mins. with traffic. I am so looking forward to PP fries and a strawberry funnel cake. Yummy!

We need to try to get the word out and plan that Kennywood Dis meet!

Kennywood is an amusement park in Pittsburgh, PA. It is a hometown park from those is Pittsburgh, but admission is getting costly.

Here is the website:

Maybe we need to have a Kennywood Dis Meet!

That would be fun! :thumbsup2

We also are about 40 minutes away so we only go a couple of times a year and I prebuy our tix through the school, so a season pass probably wouldn't be worth it to us. If I was 10 minutes away, I would definitely do it, though! I understand that the proposed beltway 576 (the new toll road by the airport) is supposed to be extended out that way with a kennywood exit :cool1:. If that happens, we just may have to look into that season pass...

That would be a really neat idea for a DIS meet at Kennywood!

Sounds like a great deal to me if you plan on going at least 5 times. We got the Idlewild Park season passes last year. My kids were 8 and 11. Since Idlewild is owned by the same owners as Kennywood/Sandcastle we could get in after 5 (or maybe it was 6) at Kennywood for $10 each. I don't believe I have ever seen Kennywood sell a season pass before. I am very sure I looked into that last year. I will have to look into the season pass for this year although Soak Zone at Idlewild essentially gives us two parks in one - rides and waterpark. Check out the added benefits of going to Idlewild and Sandcastle at reduced rates if you get a Kennywood season pass. Those could sweeten the pot for you.

The Idlewild pass was $59.99 and it was the best investment I have ever made for the summer. We went at least once a week and were able to enjoy the rides and the Soak Zone waterpark all summer long. I think if you enjoy Kennywood that it would certainly be a great thing to get. We live in Moon near the Pittsburgh airport so it was an hour each way to Idlewild but we didn't care!

Idlewild also has a Potato Patch Fries stand!!

We have been to Idlewild twice and we liked it. We like to take our niece there, but for us, it has alot of kiddie type rides. We have never been to the water park there, how is it?

You are correct that this is the first year for Kennywood season passes.

I didn't know Kennywood did a season pass. We live about 30 min. away. We usually go once or twice or so each summer. I've never seen a summer pass advertised. That is something I would consider except this summer I'm pregnant so I don't know if it would be worth it for me as I'm due in July. If they do it again next year, we would probably get it.

I think if I lived a little closer (1hr 15 min. away) I would definately buy the season passes.

We go to Kennywood every year, I think I may have missed about 2 years and I am 38 my parents took me every year too. We buy the tickets through our school and get a pretty good deal.

I'm about an hour and a half away from Kennywood (more with the insane Pittsburgh construction traffic that happens every year), but I like to go a couple times a year. Fortunately, my fiance has a few members of her family that get tickets for 15-20 bucks a pop for corporate picnic days, so we tend to go along on those couple days each year. Summer just wouldn't be summer without the Potato Patch fries and the Exterminator!

Great idea a Kennywood Dis trip, I would even drive the 5 hours from De. for that. Anyway what might be the closest campground to stay @ to go to Kennywood. Also I saw a lot of great places to eat on the show Diners Drive Inns and Dives I am sure all you locals could show us.

The water park is rather small but has all the fun stuff. There is a little kid/toddler spray area, an awesome older kid water play area, several water slides, and a huge swimming pool. They have a counter service food area near the big pool, locker rooms and locker rentals.

I grew up so close to Kennywood , you could hear the screams from my house. :thumbsup2

I live about 40 minutes away now in Peters Township. We usually go twice a year for the full day, once for the school picnic and another time for my husbands work picnic. Both times the tickets are heavily discounted.

We have season passes to Sandcastle. With those passes we can get in after 5 at a huge discount. We will sometimes go to Sandcastle until 4, change then go to Kennywood for the rest of the night.

Supposedly, the # of passes sold will be limited.

Im torn on this, we usually go 2 or 3 times a year & try to do phantom fright nights if not doing HHN @ U.

We typically have discounted tix, corporate/school picnics, etc. so we don't really spend even $89 for our standard season visits.

im about an hour via turnpike/parkway or thru wilkinsburg a 1/2 hour (just the idea of driving thru that area @ night is scary indeed, so many shootings, etc.). Add in the Rankin bridge construction that i sat in last year way too many times:headache:(is it done yet?), think im going to pass.

For those out of town people, i cannot imagine where you'd stay? Downtown/Monroeville/Oakland maybe:confused:, even out by the airport safer than the area around kennywood proper. The area has sadly gone downhill, my DS is police officer & I was shocked as to the crime in that area. There is lots of visible security on KW premises, i've never witnessed anything other than peeps being hustled out. There was talk of a hotel w/waterpark @ the park, not sure if new owners picked up on that or not.

FYI, at Pittsburgh Mills (in my backyard lol), they are supposed to build a Great Wolf Lodge:banana:and before that they announced a NASCAR park, ill believe it when i see it.;)

I'd be glad to help plan - send me a PM and we can exchange information.

To some of the posters who live farther away - we live about an hour away in Weirton, WV, but I can still envision taking the kids for a few hours every couple of weeks - especially when it is already paid for. My brother, who lives 3 hours away, comes to Kennywood at least 5 times a year and couldn't wait to jump on the season passes!

FYI - This is the first summer they have offered season passes and I heard the limit is 10,000.
