Hi,

Could someone tell me how the kennels work at WDW.
I have just bought a lab pup and will be at WDW for xmas - Obviously I want to bring the dog with us but understand that it cant stay at the resort.I need to know how long they can stay for at the kennels - if we have to bring the dogs food with us or do they provide it - the only thing I do know is I have to walk the dog each day. Do the dogs have their own cages or do they share with other dogs.
Any help or previous experiences will be great - I want to make the stay as pleasant as poss for my pup.

Thanks

Sarah.

You have to walk the dog yourself, twice a day, which can be a real hassle if you have him at the kennel at park x and you are at park y. There are other non-Disney kennels in the area that will walk the dog for you.

I would suggest doing your homework and visiting and definitely touring your "local" kennels and leave the pup there.
Your vet is the "best" person to ask about a reputable kennel !!! :thumbsup2

My lab/shorthair sisters are together, in a big cement holding area, door to a long outside run, steam sanitized daily, air conditioned, piped in music, also there is "play time" for them..in a fenced in, grass area.

I would NEVER leave them in a place where they are in a "cage", with NO room to move around...i.e...Disney kennel.

Good Luck in whatever you decide..

We have taken to boarding our Cookie Puss an 8 year old super hyper 10 lb terrier mix at the kennels at Ft. Wilderness on our frequent trips to Disney World. We like the fact that we can see Cookie during the day. We've boarded her at the "doggie spa" type places where she is not crated during the day and plays with other dogs. We have found that when she was boarded at this type of place she did not fare well-she is more of a people dog and does not get along with other dogs. (Can you say issues???) She wound up hanging out with the humans, got sick frequently and did not eat. It was after this experience we decided to try the Ft Wilderness kennel.

We like this kennel because it is smaller and the folks who work there are really nice. The dogs are placed in their own cage and in our case Cookie has plenty of room to move around. I have seeen two dogs in a cage but that only happens when a family has two dogs and they want to board them together. You have the option of feeding the dog yourself (Bring your own food) or the staff can feed your dog. The staff is great about keeping the cages clean and making sure the dogs have clean water.

It is recommended that you walk your dog 2 times a day but we tend to walk our dog 3 times. (We visit Disney World regularly and do not spend every waking hour in the parks.) We also stay at Ft Wilderness and drive over to the kennel and it takes no time to get there.

Boarding your pooch can be a hassle. We find ourselves having to plan our day around walking and visiting with Cookie. The biggest dilemma is making dinner reservations or other plans in the evening. At home Cookie's evening walk is around 8:00 but at Disney World if we want to go out at night her final walk is around 5:00. (The kennel closes at 9:00 but it is hard to get back.) I understand that the EPCOT offered a walking service at different times of the year (usually when it is not a busy time) so you might want to inquire about that kennel. The last time we visited the EPCOT kennel it was after hurricane wilma and it seemed like half of S Florida emptied out and went to Disney World-many more dogs were boarded at the kennel so there was no dog walking service.

I hope this helps!
