Okay, homeschoolers, I need to know--is Kennedy Space Center a must-see experience? It's expensive, and I'm having trouble working it into our schedule. But I keep thinking about how much my kids loved the Meteor Crater museum in Arizona, and how educational this would be. I already know it's going to be 2 to 3 years before we come back. My kids are 7 and 11.

Also, off topic--does anyone have any experience with the SeaScape Educational Center (a distance learning school)? We're looking into their program and curriculum.

It depends on how into space things they are. We love going there and walking around seeing everything. We are also fascinated by rockets and the space shuttle so seeing how things work and exactly how large everything is appeals to us.

I love KSC--but I admit...I have only been once and that was b/c they had a residents free deal for county residents. I would have gone again on these weekends--but it seems we always have something special.

The cost is jarring when compared to all there is to do at someplace like disney.

That being said--I love SPACE! And yes--I would definitely hit KSC. It is really really cool to go out to the launch pads (or in the vicinity of them)--I am sooo into behind the scenes stuff and it is fascinating to see ALL of this in person.

So please definitely consider budgeting for the expense. I think it would be worth your time if you have family members who like Space exploration and like behind the scenes stuff.

I only don't pay--b/c I know that once a year I can get in for free ;).

We visited KSC last month as a side trip to Disney. We are not homescholers, but I was very impressed with what all of us learned and I would say your kids are at the perfect age. We did the add on bus tour, which was expensive. It was nice and the tour guides did a great job, but I didn't feel it was worth the extra $$$. Next time I would stick with standard admission.
There is really enough things to do and see to keep you busy all day, I know we were. We only spent one day out there and had lots to see and do. It's a nice change of pace in the middle of a Disney trip. Although we walked around, we didn't feel tired like a Dis day.
I hope you chose to go---it was a nice and well worth trip for us.
Kim

PS: Seeing the retired Explorer shuttle up close and inside was worth the trip alone.

Also, the add-on bus tour took 2.5 hours out of our day. I think that time would have been better spent (for our family) looking at other things. :)
