Hi there, this is my first journal for WISH. I really need to stop eating junk food, I am addicted to it, there is no other way to put it. I have as much of a hard time not eating junk as someone trying to not smoke, drink ect...
I basicly grewup on junk food. I don't know where to start, but tomorrow is my grocery day, so I will start with my choices there.
My goal, besides eating better, is to loose 10lbs. I know I am also an emotional eater, and eat out of boredom, not good, how do I stop that??

I guess that will be enough for today. I will post how well I shopped tomorrow! WISH me luck! :teeth:

Good for you for making a commitment. That's the first step. The best thing to do is to get rid of the junk food in your house. If you have any laying around that will temp you and can give it away, take it to work, throw it out - DO IT!!!!!

Here are some suggestions to help you when you shop tomorrow -
If you need snacks of some sort, get the Nabisco 100 calorie snacks and only commit to one each day to begin with.

Get some vegetables that you like - carrots, celery, cauliflower, broccoli - and get some type of light or low fat sour cream and some type of dip mix. Snack on that in place of the chips and other snack foods you use to eat.

Write down everything you eat.

Drink at least 64 ounces of water - if you can handle more drink more - per day.

Just these few little things will get the 10 pounds off quickly. Also make sure you add in some exercise. And keep coming here - this is one of the most supportive times I've ever lost weight and it's because I'm writing everything down and I have support of all these AWESOME WISHers!!!!!!

Good luck
Keep on

Thanks Cruise04!

Some more facts about me, I am 31 stay at home mom to 4 kids. 4'11", so 1lb can be like 5 on someone short like me :guilty:
I have always weighed between 95-105, since having 4 kids, I just can't get off the last 10lbs. The last 1 or so, I've been going from 110-120. Last year my colesterol was 310!!! NOT good :earseek: :earseek: That is a 50 point jump from the year before!!!!

I just don't know how we would be able to afford all healty food for 6 people. The healthier the foods, the more $$$$ it is :sad2: , I think that is very wrong. I have to buy my husbands snack foods, there is no way around that one. But I am the one in control of what I buy for me and the kids. Are there fruits that can last a good week?? Besides apples that is (not an apple person) But my kids love apples.

For breakfast this morning I ate 1 bowl of instant oatmeal ( I will be buying the old fasion oatmeal today) and now I am working on my 20 oz bottle water. Now I hope I can keep myself from eating untill lunch time :hourglass

I feel your pain!! I am also 4ft 11in and it's very difficult for others to understand why 130 pounds is overweight to us!! I am a SAHM to 2 kids and it's so hard to sit around the house all day without a whole lot to do. So...I eat. I went to the grocery store yesterday and totally restocked all of my healthy food. I got fat free pudding (the little cups) and fat free Cool Whip. It's good on the pudding, but I also eat it like ice cream. I also bought apples and bananas and Danimals yogurt. The vanilla yogurt tastes just like melted ice cream. When you freeze it, it's out of this world!! Some of the baked chips are okay, but I love the baked Lay's sour cream and cheddar. I have also found that if I get the smaller snack sized bags of popcorn, I don't eat as much. They make all kinds of different things to sprinkle on the popcorn, too. The white cheddar is really good. Get the 98% fat free popcorn and spray butter. The butter tastes exactly the same and has no fat or calories. It just doesn't melt like regular butter, but it's sooooo good on popcorn. Good luck!!!!

Some other ideas are getting baby carrots (or regular carrots and cut them up) and celery and put them in some water in the frig (someone else had that in a post and I remember my mom doing that) and they last a couple of weeks, if not more, at a time. And a great thing to snack on.

Another snack thing is reduced fat Wheat Thins if you like them. You can go also get lower calorie bread and have toast or a small sandwich with some cheese or something. I also get romaine lettuce whole and cut it up and shake the water out really well and it will last a good week if not a little more. I put it on my sandwiches and have it for salad as well. It's cheaper than the bags of salad that are lucky to last 2 days sometimes.

Reading labels is the best thing to do also - that way you can see what you are getting for your money.

Good luck and hang in there!
Keep on

Hey there! Welcome to WISH! I am an emotional eater, just like you...when I feel bad, I ask for hugs, or write...or just cry until I feel better. When I'm bored, I try to get outside...bring out the Playdoh...keep my hands busy and thoughts on other things. You're headed in the right direction!!!

You know what to do, Kendra...it's just a matter of doing it and doing it with STYLE :cool1:!

And now- a cheer!
:cheer2: K-e-n
:cheer2: D-ra!
:cheer2: Gonna lose weight when she starts today!
:cheer2: You can do it if you try!
:cheer2: Good luck and v-ic-to-ry!

Kendra,

How's it going? I find myself that I do the best grocery shopping on Sunday evening around 8pm. I know it may be hard with the kids and all, but my goal is to get in and out as quickly as possible. You should see me with the cart! Oh, let me tell you, it is quite a sight! ;)

Let us know how you are doing! :)

Why am I doing this again?? hahaha

Ok, this is where my problem seems to be. I do really good in the mornings, but after I eat a healty lunch, about an hour after, I LOOSE all control!!?? I know after eating a turkey sandwhich, and a salad with non fat dressing for lunch, I shouldn't be hungry. Then the rest of the day is shot with me eating. What's up with that??? Am I eating something at lunch, that causes me to FEEL like I'm hungry, or is it a mental thing?? For breakfast I will eat a 100% bran flakes, or some other bran cereal. If I get hungry before lunch, I will snack on baby carrots, or raw string beans, then lunch would be a sandwich with turkey, 100% wheat bread, mustard, lettus, and a salad with FF dressing. Am I doing anything wrong there?? With the lunch I mean.

The rest of the afternoons I am too embarrest to say what I have been eating. All the bad foods haven't all been eaten up yet, but they are almost gone. I did really good when I went shopping last week.

I haven't been weighing myself yet. I will wait another week to start keeping track of that. Right now I want to focus on the food habbits.
:flower:

Thanks for all the encouragements, and ideas! They have been very helpfull :sunny:

Are we related?? I have the exact same problem. I eat breakfast around 8:00 and by 10:30, I'm STARVING. Sooo...I eat lunch at 10:30 and by 1:00, I'm hungry again! Usually by 1:00, I've had 2 meals and a snack. It's a vicious cycle!!! :maleficen Just in the past few days, I have discovered fat free vanilla pudding. I cut up a banana and put the pudding on top. Then I top that with fat free Cool Whip. It has seemed to satisfy me for longer and it's totally FAT FREE!!! I try not to eat what the kids are eating, but it's hard not to sneak a bite here and there. It's all a matter of willpower.

I was doing good, but not so now. This is depressing.
It's funny, I think I am ok, not really fat, then I see myself in a picture! And yesterday we just got a new camcorder for my upcoming trip to Disney with my daughter. Well, we tested it out, and I saw myself on there, OMG!! I am FAT.. How much weight can I really loose in 33 days?? It would be nice to loose 10, but I think that would not be healthy. Are there any pills out that that REALLY make you NOT hungry?? So maybe I can loose 5-7 lbs by then? I at least need to be able to FIT in my shorts, and NOT be TOO shy to be in a bathing suite for the water parks.
I haven't eaten anything today, yet, and I don't feel like it. I am too mad at myself for letting myself get this way.
I was 5lbs lighter 2 months ago, then it all went to you know where.............. :guilty:

Don't get discouraged! That will only make you want to eat more. This comes from a true expert, I am a former "binge snacker". I used to have the same problem - I'd be fine all day and then eat everything in sight after I got home from work. I've found some things to be extremely helpful;

1) Don't deprive yourself. If you need a snack between lunch and dinner, have one! Just make sure it is healthy and portion-controlled (yogurt, fruit, veggies, string cheese)

2) To feel fuller, eat things that are high in protein and fiber. It will take a while to figure out what fills you up (I know Karyn finally found that baked potatoes work for her!)

3) Drink lots of water. It really does make a difference.

4) Write down EVERYTHING you eat. When I started keeping a journal, my snacking habit was cured in about a month. I didn't want to write everything down for the world to see. But you have to be 100% honest in the journal or it won't work!

5) Reading other people's journals helps tremendously. You will "meet" people who have been in the same depressing situation as you and have been successful at losing weight and keeping it off.

Most of all, stick with it! You will have bad days, the most important part is picking yourself back up and getting back on track. Just because you eat one bad thing shouldn't be an excuse to go off the deep end for the rest of the day.

Sorry this is so long, but I hope it helps you a little bit! You can do it!!!

Hi and welcome to WISH.

One thing that has saved me from snacking so much is I eat 6 small meals a day. I have breakfast, three hours later I have a snack, three hours later I have lunch, three hours later I have a snack and three hours later I have dinner. It may sound like it, but eat small things. I have cereal, granola bars, yogurt, fruit, just a little something. That may help you. When I first started doing this, it felt like I was eating all the time. Now, it is just habit. Some days I don't eat my afternoon snack simply because I am not hungry. Usually I end up regretting that because I am starving by dinner.

You can do this. When you need help, come here!

Good luck!
