Keeping your ADR's and changing reservations to get Free Dining

Do we all have this straight?

To get free dining (if it comes out next week) you have to get a new reservation number.
That's what I've been reading here at disboards.

Since we are past 180 days, most of us have ADR's already that are tied to our name, phone #, and current reservation number.

I called Disney Dining today.... and asked them if I changed my reservation # would it in any-way hurt my dining reservations? THEY SAID NO, IT WILL STILL BE UNDER MY NAME AND PHONE NUMBER.

This makes me feel better about canceling my reservation, and booking a new reservation to get the FREE DINING.

Anyone else worried about losing their ADR's if they had to change their reservation? Looks like its not a problem. ( I know, I'm the kind of guy that thinks too much LOL but in my head- what can go wrong, might go wrong....so I don't like changing anything like a reservation number and canceling the old one that has been attached to my ADR's)

Last year I only gave them my phone number to make ADR's so I didn't worry about my ADR's being tied to my resort number....but this year they wanted both phone and resort number (even though that's going to change if free dining comes out)

Also.... last year... I just gave them the code and they gave me a discount. I didn't get any talk about canceling old reservation and giving me a new one (Maybe the lady did it for me and didn't even tell me, but it seemed more like they just added the savings to my existing reservation?)

How many are like me?
If I had to cancel my ADR's and take my chances booking now 160 days out (I'd have to think about skipping the savings for free dining) Because my schedule has very little flexibility....we know what we want, and can't change park days and still get everything in.

depends - did you put them under your phone number or your reservation number.

if under your phone number - you still have them.

if under your reservation number - they will be cancelled - if they need to change the reservation number.

so call today and make sure they are under your phone number.

I have my ADRs are set and I haven't even booked my trip yet waiting on FD.

For most of us, they are under both! If you booked 180 days plus 10, the reason they require your resort number, is to check and see when you are 180 days out? It gets recorded on your ADR along with your phone number.

Actually they are under all 3. Disney can pull them up by
- your name
- phone number
- or resort number.

You can't book 180 days +10 without them cross-checking it against your resort number. I'm guessing there is no one on here that was able to book 180 plus 10 days... that doesn't have their resort number tied to their reservations along with their phone number.

But the cast member told me that changing resort number still leaves your name and phone number tagged to your ADR's (maybe resort number is just to check when your 180 days date is, but not your main ID number for pulling up ADR's?) Anyone know how the system works?

I've made ADR's prior to free dining being announced and all my ADRs were still there when I switched to free dining. I actually think that I didn't get a new ressie number either when I switched to free dining. Just a different total payment due ;)
