Do I just bring water to the theme parks for my sons, or should I bring something like Gatorade or Pedialyte to keep them hydrated? We are going in the middle of July and it will be HOT!! Am I being paranoid and is water good enough? Older son just turned 3 and the little guy will be 1 in May. What should I do?

We have been in May several times and it has been hot. We alternate, water and gatorade. My dd however will only drink water and she is fine. We avoid sodas.

Oh, drink early and drink often! Drink before you are thirsty. ;)

We went end of June/beginning of July last year. My DD won't drink water, so what we did was give her 3/4 water with 1/4 apple juice. She did like the powerade stuff they had at WDW.

1 part gatorade to 2 parts water. We asked our Pedi and this was the suggestion our LO will be 10 months when we go. She gave us another trick which was to get a water bottle with pop top and allow him to drink out of that. She said if he gets wet it will keep him cool and he probably will get more water in!

Powerade constipates my DD. Might want to keep it in mind if your kids don't make daily constitutionals.:lmao:

As a local, I agree with what one pp said -drink often, and drink before you feel thirsty. If you are already thirsty and sweaty, it's too late, you're dehydrated. Now, any fluids will quench thirst, but in the long run, things like water, gatorade, powerade, etc. are all better because soda will eventually dehydrate you by causing you to go to the bathroom more.

Aside from drinking a lot, take advantage of going into shows during the afternoon hours and just relaxing out of the sun in the air conditioning. You can also walk into the stores (most are connected) which are air conditioned and give a nice break. You can also wet your face and neck with wet paper towels and that will help cool you down.

With little ones, it may be easier to go back to your resort for a rest/pool fun during the early hot afternoon hours, then return in the cooler evening hours if your kids can stay awake, when it won't be as hot and the parks are more bearable. Obviously, do try to get as much done in the early mornings and evenings when it is cool!

Summer months like July and August are hot and humid!

We've been in July 3 different times, and we'll be there this August. Just encourage the water. Kids often don't think they're thirsty, so you really need to remind them.

We do straight water, and we've never had a problem with any of the kids. My youngest was 14 months when we went in July once, and she was OK, again just with water.

July is HOT! Definitely drink early, and freeze bottles of water if you can.
Wrapping them in small towels from the hotel is a great idea...it keeps them cold longer, and the towels feel soooo good! I went to Disney last May with my cousin, his wife, and their 5 kids...here are some things that helped them fight the heat...

You (and your kids especially) will feel much hotter if they get burnt...so apply lots of sunscreen over and over and over! Florida sun is brutal. A hat is helpful too, and sunglasses if your kids will wear them. Take a break in the afternoon, when the sun is the hottest. The pool is always great, or any water places in any of the parks. Keep the kids in light cotton clothes that will let a breeze through...if there is a breeze!

Have a great time! :goodvibes

I did forget to mention one thing that people seem to forget. The pool and water parks are a great way to cool off, but don't forget to apply sunscreen, and apply it regularly. The sun will reflect off the water, and can really scorch you. And as someone who has had sun poisoning before, I can't stress how important the sunscreen is!
