Keeping hydrated

My youngest son has a heart problem so it is critical that he stays hydrated. When we go to DL, we usually take a backpack with a water bottle in it and fill it up in water fountains. Does US have lots of water fountains around? Can you bring in a backpack with a water bottle in it- plus a few other things we want/need? We usually have a stroller at DL and throw the backpack in the bottom of it when we ride on rides ( we never have anything valuable in it) but we aren't going to have a stroller at US. Can we take the backpack with us on any of the rides- or will we need to get a locker. We have a water bottle that hooks to a belt loop- maybe that would be easier.

How do you stay hydrated at US? I just don't want to spend a ton of money on water bottles.

On some rides you are not allowed to carry anything on the ride. Those rides have free lockers available to you to put your stuff in for the time you are riding. We found that for most of the rides you can take your stuff on with you without a problem.

We also took one water bottle with us to the park and kept refilling it. I don't know about water fountains, but anywhere that has a drink machine will give you free cups of ice water. We used that to refill our bottle and after a while we actually started asking if they would just fill our water bottle and they had no problem with that. The water is cold out of the machine, so you don't even need ice. It worked really well for us.

Universal has a great refillable mug program, the cheapest are around $6.00. the have a handle, hold about a quart, and you can get them refilled anywhere in both parks with soda or Icees for a low price.

they'll also fill them with ice water for free and unlike Disney, the mugs are good as long as you own them.

Slight hi-jack here.

While we at Disney this year, a CM told us the reason Disney doesn't do refillable mugs. The 'county' they are in feels they are unsanitary. But they have re-fillable mugs at AK and the on-ite hotels. I guess they are in a different county.:rotfl2:

You will only need a locker for these rides:

Hulk
Dueling Dragons
MIB
Mummy

For everything else, either put your stuff by your feet, or in an available compartment.

Thanks for calming my fears- I think we will be okay. I think we'll take the backpack the first day. 3 out of 4 of the rides ( all except for MIB) that we would need to get a locker, my youngest can't ride anyway so one of us would be waiting with him. If it looks like there are enough "watering holes" that we don't need to keep filling up a water bottle, we might lose the backpack the second day.

When are you going to be at Universal? We will be there on August 3rd & 4th.

I love that excuse. My father was with the health department for 40 years and I can assure you that this is not a violation of health codes. Don't you just love the misinformation?
:rotfl2:

That reminds me of when I worked at a movie theater when I was going to college. Ocassionally we would run out of drink straws and we were told to say that the health department declared straw dispensers as unsanitary. Most people believed us.

Anyway, about water fountains in the parks. They have them at the opening to all the restrooms and also many of the rides have water fountains in the queues.

POP Century actually is outside of Orange County, so that could be an actual excuse. but we've stayed there and they have refillable mugs. ;) (only good the duration of your stay)

and WDW and UO are well within OC and for some reason, Seaworld has the same mug program UO does. :)

buy a $6.00 MIB, Spidey, or Spongebob mug and enjoy how a theme park should treat its guests.

The lack of a re-fillable mug program is ridiculous. Even our 6 Flags in NJ has a program!

If Disney put the right spin on it, they could use it to make money. Limited edition sipper cups every year! Disney fans will collect them all!

Ever ask for water at one of the soda carts? They give you a tiny, rinky-dink cup with a little ice.

But if you have a refillable mug, they will put ice water in it for free.

I just remembered, actually it was after I saw my mug, that TL has a refillable mug program. You just buy a new barcode for it & you can use it all day. Why can't they do that for other places?

You can get refills the entire time for just $6.00 ??
at any on the counter places and carts??
Are the cups available all over the park ? This seems like a bargin .. going with 2 teenages.. they could drink $6.00 worth before lunch :rotfl:
Does any one have a photo of the cups ? Just wondering ..
Only 20 more days !!!!!!!!!!!!:cool1: :goodvibes :yay: :woohoo:
thanks

water refills are free in the souvenier mugs.....if you want soda/pop it is about $1.45 or so......not bad at all.

Its the red thing that B#2 is holding:
